The fun level of this game show is unparalleled. Gene Rayburn made it happen. But the panel was also so instrumental in making this arguably the best game show ever. And Jack Klugman getting excited for a big win. Absolute mayhem in the studio. Love it.
Better look at Klug in rare form in four episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE; pool player, trumpeter, grieving father, and astronaut. And wasn’t he also in the original film of 12 ANGRY MEN?
Jack Klugman is from my hometown, Philadelphia. An underrated actor... just look at his work on Twilight Zone, 12 Angry Men, not to mention his comic chops in The Odd Couple. Also a Broadway actor. He did our city proud 😁
Todd Mastrianna I am mostly talking about entertainment in this case. I don't think I would have disliked living in previous generations. I know enough to say that with certainty.
Don't forget "The Days of Wine and Roses" with Jack Lemmon who later, ironically, played Felix Unger. Jack Klugman played Jack Lemmon's AA coach in the movie. An Oscar winning classic. Must see.
Lol. You must have lived in the country with only 1 channel. The Gong Show was the best. Actually, according to ranking list I see, Match Game did place very high.
The new Odd Couple is horrible! Leave the old classics alone! Saw about 2 minutes of Matthew Perry with Lauren Graham & I thought, omg! Lorelei! You should have stayed with Luke! Yuck! Matthew looks like a dying hobo & he isn't funny at all. Jack Klugman stays in my heart
They seem like a happy couple..Hope they are STILL together...& HAPPY...!! I remember these WONDERFUL GAME SHOWS...!!! It was so much fun back then...but that doesn't mean we can STILL have fun..!!~
An odd couple had jack accused of stealing $50 during a card game. Jack had mistakenly put the $50 in his sandwich during a blackout. Jack was at a racetrack and I went up to him said, " I knew you didn't steal that $50." :)
I adored Jack Klugman! My Mom worked in a bank office. The bank was about a half hour from Philly and she met Jack's brother. I can't remember his name. She said he was really nice, went around and said hi to everyone in the office. She said when he first walked in, she thought it was Jack because he resembled him! She said he even sounded like him!
I don't know about that. In Seattle, we paid $21,000 for only a three- bedroom home with a sundeck, basement, and garage on a small lot, and that was in 1965.
Remember, though, it was probably only $12k or so after taxes, but that would still be enough for a sizable down payment on a decent home in Los Angeles or Orange County back then. Maybe a lot more In the central valley (Bakersfield, Fresno).
Auntie M I understand there was major “white flight” when the San Fernando valley became the place to go for people who didn’t want to live near anyone who had a bit of melanin in their skin. Housing was more affordable to them, but in return, they endured excruciatingly hot weather and subsequent skin tanning developed a lot of skin cancer. Ahhhh, the price of racism!
I'd forgotten about the part where the contestant spun the wheel. The celebrity who matched is Brian Patrick Clarke, who played in , among others, "Eight is Enough". Though I haven't watched the latest incarnation (I just might someday), I really enjoyed it back in the day, especially the Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour (Sept. '83- July 27, '84).
Jack Klugman is and was my favorite actor. By far, in my opinion, the best voice ever in Hollywood. The way he sank his teeth into a role made it so believable. Hi s roles as Oscar Madison is all you need to see that.
I bet it was a lil more than that, remember it was the 70's, $20k was a sizeable amount of money back then, probably made home with a down-payment on $15k home, lol
grew up with him on odd couple reruns and twilight zone reruns. He always seemed so down to earth and more child like that other grownups (in a happy , fun good way).
That was my favorite game show. I watched it many times in the summer. Who else didn't get some of the remarks when they were younger? It'd be interesting if this couple got married. Game Show Network should try to track down some of these contestants. Jack Klugman sure was happy. Some of us would consider the Star Wheel a shark jump. It's supposedly why Richard Dawson left. Most contestants chose him because he was usually right. Ironically, the first time they used the Star Wheel, it landed on him.
if you'll notice when he goes up to hug Brian, Brian tells him that it was Charles who gave him the right answer, so he said go give Charles a hug. WOW, that's cheating, but perhaps they (celebs) could take suggestions from other celeb's. 20K is a lot of money, so I'm glad he won it. But dang. This all happens at 2:07. Please watch it.
nah, the celebs helped each other often. It was cool. Watch it on Buzzer Tv now, you'll see Charles helping Brett all the time, LOL. So cute, awww, gosh I miss those days!!
I think the guitarist that did the bumper music probably had a second gig doing the musical scores for porno flicks of that era as it has a similar sound.
If you watch the documentary on this show. They say they filmed 5 days worth of shows in one day. On Friday it was usually pretty obvious that they had been drinking all day and in their water cups was most likely booze.
I also read story on "Hollywood Squares" Peter Marshall version that celebrities had dinner break & their libation shall I say and showed on episodes airing on Thursday and/or Friday. The humor on both shows was classic!
Brett Somers also said that while all of the other celebrities would sit together during the show’s lunch break, Richard Dawson would sit by himself during the break, being somewhat aloof. I think Brett Somers also said that she was secretly happy when Richard Dawson would fail to correctly match the contestant for the $5,000 prize. In addition, Betty White opined that Richard Dawson always impressed her as being a very sad and unhappy man.
Match Game was such a awesome game show. Because of Gene Rayburn. Gene was so nice, sincere, kind and respectful. Gene gave Match Game that happy magic feeling the viewer needed!
The fun level of this game show is unparalleled. Gene Rayburn made it happen. But the panel was also so instrumental in making this arguably the best game show ever.
And Jack Klugman getting excited for a big win. Absolute mayhem in the studio. Love it.
They were also completely loaded most of the time
How adorable was Jack? He was so excited!!!
I would go back in time just to be in the audience for one of these game shows! Love it!
yep, totally agree
Just watch it on TV, it's on the "Gameshow" network.
Everybody in the studio just went crazy over that sailor's $20,000 win! And why not ?
I love and miss Jack Klugman. BOTH A GREAT COMEDIC AND DRAMATIC ACTOR.
I grew up watching Klugman star in Quincy -- great show!
WILD Jack Klugman from The Odd Couples.😁
Better look at Klug in rare form in four episodes of THE TWILIGHT ZONE; pool player, trumpeter, grieving father, and astronaut. And wasn’t he also in the original film of 12 ANGRY MEN?
A true legend.
Jack Klugman is from my hometown, Philadelphia. An underrated actor... just look at his work on Twilight Zone, 12 Angry Men, not to mention his comic chops in The Odd Couple. Also a Broadway actor. He did our city proud 😁
Ahh, the Seventies. What a fun decade.
warrenpaine (This was 1981, just to be technically correct.)
@@eyehatefarcebook11 Next to last PM show (229).
Wow I never thought I would miss those days. I was in such a hurry to grow up. But now I think programs were better back then.
Everythng was better back in the day. Most everything changes for the worse as time goes on in the world.
subsamadhi I know right? let's go back to the days where we didn't have people bitching about what they have on the internet...
Todd Mastrianna I am mostly talking about entertainment in this case. I don't think I would have disliked living in previous generations. I know enough to say that with certainty.
I wish I could go back I never wanted to grow up into these days I wish I could go back to the 70s
Todd Mastrianna
Not me I would have loved to live in my grandparents and my mother's error of the Motown era and real TV
Jack Klugman was so awesome! Loved him as an actor! Go Quincy!!!😃
That Match Game jacket Jack's wearing! I'd love to to get my hands on that.
me too
RIP Jack Klugman 1922-2012
yep ...90 ..what a legend....Twilight Zone...12 angry men ...The odd couple...Quincy ..etc...the man was such a good actor and he will be missed...rb
Don't forget "The Days of Wine and Roses" with Jack Lemmon who later, ironically, played Felix Unger. Jack Klugman played Jack Lemmon's AA coach in the movie. An Oscar winning classic. Must see.
Also, owner of Jacklin Klugman, a very nice racehorse, and Dominica, a brilliant filly.
R.I.P. Jack and Brett too! Ol Jack had quite a sense of humor!
Match Game is the all-time greatest game show.
I think I agree with you. It was always so entertaining and funny, and it had some great stars on there!
That is not a mere opinion. It is fact.
Lol. You must have lived in the country with only 1 channel. The Gong Show was the best. Actually, according to ranking list I see, Match Game did place very high.
Have to throw in The 100,00 dollar Pyramid as well.
Hands down, my favorite game show. I still watch the old reruns to this day.
Use to love watching Jack on, Quincy M.E. growing up.
@Joe Battiloro he truly was a talented actor!
RIP Jack Klugman. Glad I followed the UA-cam trail to see you here full of vim and vigor .
Happy birthday to Jack Klugman! Rest in peace
I miss Oscar Madison
They seem like a happy couple..Hope they are STILL together...& HAPPY...!! I remember these WONDERFUL GAME SHOWS...!!! It was so much fun back then...but that doesn't mean we can STILL have fun..!!~
Jack Klugman is awesome!!! Loved him in the Odd Couple with Tony Randall. Seemed gruff but loving and kind. Like the grandpa kids love.
@Edster III Or that Uncle who would always say the craziness things ; especially after he tossed back a few 🍹 🍹 !!
An odd couple had jack accused of stealing $50 during a card game.
Jack had mistakenly put the $50 in his sandwich during a blackout.
Jack was at a racetrack and I went up to him said, " I knew you didn't steal that $50."
:)
i love Jack Klugman :D
Jack was clearly and hilariously mocking overly excited girlfriend. Made for great ratings as well .
Wish tv was like this today.
Miss you Jack.
I give this a very enthusiastic, and a very wild, THUMBS UP!!!!!
Those were the days! R.I.P. Gene, Jack , Bret & Charles

God bless them all for this pure unadulterated fun... for most of them, they must be having fun wreaking havoc in Heaven playing this...
At that time $20,000 could buy a 4 or 5 bedroom 2 car garage home on 5 acres in California.
No no no... not in California! My parents paid $35k for our 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom family home in the 50s in Los Angeles.
Ohgrowup1 - the city was not as large as it is now. Right outside the city limits they were cheaper.
Auntie M I understand there was major “white flight” when the San Fernando valley became the place to go for people who didn’t want to live near anyone who had a bit of melanin in their skin. Just binge watched the odd couple the other day.
20k was a LOT of money back then...
Yes, and Charles told Brian what to write down...and it worked!!!! Charles was a genius.
Harpoon_Bakery I love Charles
Still a nice amount, though $12k ($20k minus taxes) could have bought them a couple of nice, though not extravagant, cars at that time.
Harpoon_Bakery bbb b b
When it's free,,,, it's still a lot of money.
He knew how to stir the crowd up! Hilarious!

Drinking on the job. Must have been the best job ever 😂❤️
@Christina Skiles What proof do you have that someone in the video clip was drunk?
This was a hoot, thanks for sharing it.
I love to see people win ... looked like Jack did too!
I love this show from the 70's
Jack Klugman is and was my favorite actor. By far, in my opinion, the best voice ever in Hollywood. The way he sank his teeth into a role made it so believable. Hi s roles as Oscar Madison is all you need to see that.
Ughhh Mr Klugman was such a NATURAL, my goodness I love him, and Love Brett his wife too! Whatta perfect MATCH there were. RIP Mr & Mrs Klugman 🙌❤️🙌🕊️
This was my all-time favorite game show.
RIP Jack loved the show Quincy ME
After taxes and the costs of travel, food and hotel. They walked away with $17.31.
I bet it was a lil more than that, remember it was the 70's, $20k was a sizeable amount of money back then, probably made home with a down-payment on $15k home, lol
Both the contestant and Brian are CUTE!!
That’s so awesome! I wish that would do I show finding our “where are they now” type of thing for the contestants !
RIP Mr Jack Klugman
lol ! I do believe I hear Gene shouting, “Get her up here ! Get her up here” 😂
Love Jack! Oscar and Quincy!
Hilarious! Especially when he knocked over the question card holder stand and you see Johnny Olson laughing while running for his life!
I would love to have Jack's Match Game jacket!
God Bless the '70s!
That says a lot about his character that he was so excited for the contestant.
Those were the days of excellent Television shows now all you get is junk TV.
John Baginski and the new match game with Alec Baldwin is the worst!
Jack Klugman was the best!! The 70's was a great time, ,I was but a wee tot ❤️
grew up with him on odd couple reruns and twilight zone reruns. He always seemed so down to earth and more child like that other grownups (in a happy , fun good way).
That contestant is very handsome
RIP Jack Klugman

Is that ‘Merl the Pearl’ from eight is enough ??
I'd love to have one of the Match Game jackets Jack Klugman was wearing!
i absolutely loved him
Match Game was always the funnest game show when I was a kid.
Jack Klugman was Brett Somers' husband actually lol!
Back in the day when the Navy allowed beards.

2:38 "This is exciting in all, but don't mess with my comb-over hair."
That guy for blessed with a honey of a woman.
I think he was crushing on Brian 🔥
I almost thought the background was the Confederate Flag!
This episode was from "Match Game PM" 1980.
I think the guitarist that did the bumper music probably had a second gig doing the musical scores for porno flicks of that era as it has a similar sound.
RIP Jack.
OMG, that blonde was stunning!!
I want that Match Game windbreaker Quincy is sporting!
Great couple. If you're out there, check in!
If the wheel landed on Double from Jack’s spin does the guy get $40k?
PLEASE BRING BACK MATCHGAME!
I love how Match Game made Brett Somers a superstar.😍😍😍😍
Great show!
WOW ! Jack Klugman went bonkers , love it 👌
everyone was drunk and it was glorious
$20K back then is probably worth 3 million today!! Minus taxes, would be $21K.....great win!!
I think Brett was out of town working on a play that taping day, so Jack filled her seat that taping.
I think Klugman was responding to the surprisingly high ratings of Quincy, M.E.!!!
Jack was a great guy!
truer words never said. He always seemed so loving . from his spots on twilight show to of course odd couple.
Quincy...What a great show.
You knew him...that's pretty cool
Brian Patrick Clarke also played Grant Putnam/Grant Andrews on GENERAL HOSPITAL
I always wondered bout Gene but when I saw that he worked with Steve Allen it came together great show

Can you imagine how good-looking their kids must be? They're both just gorgeous!
lol -- you'd think so, but the most attractive kids I know were birthed by two below-average looking parents, so you just never know.
dcs002 very attractive couple
how do you know they were married? it was only his gf.
20 grand isn't a bad take for a single day even today. Adjusted for inflation from 1981 when Match Game PM ended, that's over $63,000 now.
Match Game was such a awesome game show. Because of Gene Rayburn. Gene was so nice, sincere, kind and respectful. Gene gave Match Game that happy magic feeling the viewer needed!
Twenty grand could have bought you a decent house in some parts of the country back then...
Yep, had a friend who bought a house in 1977 for $17,900.00. Three bedrooms, two baths.
In 1972 we moved to San Diego and got a very nice little three bed-room for 27k, so yes, it really could have.
Hollywood Squares and Match Game. Best game shows. Ever.
