I freeze cream in ice trays instead of using water ice cubes. VitaMix is the most versatile appliance EVER. Your post made me make it. Thank you.
Melissa, everything you say about Vitamix (not Vitamixer) is false. Do you even have one, because if you did, you'd know what a tough beast it is. The low growl means the machine just started to freeze the ingredients like it's supposed to. Watch the QVC video with Jan and Albany. It's very entertaining - but 58 minutes long. The tamper is designed to stop short of the running blades. It's there to push solids into the blades of the running machine; you don't require near as much liquid like other blenders. It makes amazing peanut butter (NO added liquid, just peanuts and the tamper in 4 minutes)and awesome hummus, either of which would kill most blenders. The blades are not sharp, but they run something like 29,000 rotations a minute. The high friction blades cause cold foods to flash freeze, and those four mounds, when making frozen desserts, are the signal to turn it off at that point (which is how he knew it was frozen and turned it upside down) because any longer once the mounds form, and those blades run so fast that they actually will begin to cook the food. Throw ingredients for soup in it, and it cooks it in the blender. I threw a whole tomato, a handful of ridgy carrot chips, a bit of wine, cheese, seasonings, olive oil, and 2 slices of bread in it tonight and made a lovely cream of tomato soup to rival LaMadeleine's. Do you know that there are only FOUR Vitamix repairmen in the whole country? Know why? Because these things are nearly impossible to break or wear down; they've been doing the same thing for 94 years. I use mine several times a day, and will never buy another blender again. Just a heads up.

Melissa, I don't know what you are smoking or what videos you are watching but you are absolutely supposed to use the tamper with the machine on. He did it exactly correctly. You need to do some reading/watching.
It freaks me out when my vitamix does that deep growl I feel like I'm gonna kill yet another blender lol
Have you tried taking chocolate milk or something like that and freezing it into ice cubes instead of using regular ice?
i made it and it worked. even tho i dont have one of thos machines. ill just have to freeze it for like 30 min and its ready!!!!!!!!
I tried same method and I got the four mounds and it past the freeze test, but the ice cream itself still look watery. Am I missing something? I am using a 4 year old 750 Pro Series that I only make smoothies in. Could the blades be dull? And would that effect the end result of ice cream? Or is that how the ice cream looks am I expecting too much? Not a Breyers or Store Brought Ice Cream consistency! More like a watery Italian ice.
I think Melissa is using a blender from Wally World bc CLEARLY she's not using a real Vitamix!! Even the video that comes with the machine instructs you to use the tamper with the machine running.
Does all the ice water the flavor down? I mean when you come down to it, ice is just frozen water.
Yes, ice definitely waters it down. I find it's best to use frozen milk or coconut milk, a frozen banana plus the cocoa. For more than one serving simply multiply. Enjoy!
I tried it but I think I used to much ice. It tasted watery. They really don't say how much ice. It always looks easy on tube until you do it.
Austin David - it has been recommended as a 1 to 3 ratio of milk to ice.
Poor Melissa...lol. I feel sorry for her Vitamix, sounds like she abuses it...haha.

Why are you using all of these powders and chocolate sugar powder? That is gross…
Why not use actual chocolate, ice, and skim milk? This is just a sugar bowl.

This guy is abusing his vitamixer. The tamper is only supposed to be used when the machine is off, machine is only supposed to be on if the top is in place, and if a low growl is heard that means there is too much stress on the motor so the recipe needs more liquid or needs to stay at a lower speed. Please do not treat your vitamixer this way! Also, ingredient quantities would be helpful.
lmao its funny you think this. cuz every single "point" in this comment is completely wrong. loooool.
Gfy
You're mistaken. The tamper IS ABSOLUTELY SUPPOSED TO BE USED WHILE THE MACHINE IS ON. IT DOES NOT REACH THE BLADES. It's meant to be used during operation. Just check out any of the Costco store Vitamix demos on UA-cam.
The machine design to do that!!
