The first listener question, you can do the cute couple stuff without dating someone! I love taking myself on dates and actually prefer going to museums solo. It's also fun to go on friend dates! Any couple can take advantage of "date night specials" at restaurants and stuff. Getting dressed up solely for myself gave me a lot more confidence.
I agree with all of this! I also think those romantic things are great but it hurts bad when it's not someone good, so take your time finding someone really great
Hearing that Maggie is 5'8" is so shocking to me and I don't know why. I felt like she would be 5'4" and there's absolutely no reason for me to have thought that lol
my half-joking manifestation story: I was going to LA and a friend jokingly said “maybe you’ll see the try guys!” (this was march 2018, so during their hiatus) and I was like, sure! why not. I met keith and eugene on my first day there lol
I slipped on ice this week directly in front of this girl. She stopped and asked if I was good. I said yeah and before I was even up she was backing away saying “I never saw this. You’ll never see me again.” I died.
I am a firm believer in 'be careful what you wish for' and I think manifestation is related to that. Be intentional with your intentions and what you want to happen for you.
Also, young girls should never pressure themselves into having a boyfriend or a first kiss. I waited until I was comfortable with someone enough to kiss and get physical and that wasn’t until I was 26. I am so glad I waited too, I had a wonderful experience and don’t regret anything. If I had pushed myself and did what society told me to do, it would have been way worse and regretful.
Becky’s questions about skiing are so funny to me 😂 “are there lanes?” “Is there a guy at the top telling you when to go like a water park”…I’ve never heard questions like this from someone who’s never gone
This was so relatable to me lol. I've never been skiing before and I know very little about it, even though my brother works at a ski mountain. He's actually never been skiing either. As someone who is so adjacent to it, he says there are only three options, all of which are bad: 1) you fall/crash and get hurt or even die 2) you try it and don't like it, or 3) you like it and spend ALL your money on it
@@sarah.williamson I don’t necessarily think those are the only 3 options. I’ve been skiing for 12 years and I’ve never gone all out on spending for it…it’s a good time and exercise! Sure you can fall but you don’t always get hurt
When they were talking about the girl being 19 and last two years of high school being canceled cause of covid I just about cried. I'm about to be 19 in a few days and I knew exactly how she felt. It's a little hard not getting to be a senior at school and get to see friends and teachers I'll never see again. Like Rachel said we watched every teen movie and seen people have senior year and it just sucks so I'm happy someone said it.
This may seem insignificant, but I just love that you all allow each other to respond quickly to text messages and understand that people have other things going on. Plus it's always done quickly, respectfully, and doesn't interrupt the session. I can tell you guys really respect each other.
Failing to return your cart is not a victimless crime. You can scratch someones car, but the bigger problem is creating more work for the cart pushers. It's already an unpleasant task without having to round up the carts for lazy people. If it's hot out, then that's a downright cruel thing to do.
And cart-pushers are hard to come by because no one wants to do it! I used to work for Walmart and I can’t tell you how many times they’ve had to send people from the salesfloor to go get carts because we couldn’t keep anyone hired
And if it's cold out. I've seen cart pushers doing this in obscenely cold temperatures. If it is annoying for you to put your cart away, think of how annoying it is to go around picking them up and being out in the cold for who knows how much longer because they had to wrangle stray carts instead of only going to the receptacles. Before COVID I would also move small carts to the small cart side if they were in the large cart side and vice versa. I don't do it anymore because I try not to touch stuff that I know strangers have used for long periods (like shopping carts).
Yes! It really gave me icky icky vibes when both she and Matt justified it with “well it’s their job”. Gave me intense entitled Karen vibes. It’s a victimless crime that says how much you do or don’t think of people. Especially Ariel! Who has like bbs who are sponges and they’re learning by observing! Also, cart pushers job is collecting them from the designated spot, not chasing them. Also! When she was talking about the carpool lane, idk Ariel gives me “would not be friend with this entitled lady” vibes. To her it’s a ~fun, thrill~ law breaking moment…bc no cop would accost her… it’d be a slap on the wrist and MAYBE a ticket.
I relate to that listener question so hard, except I graduated from college in 2020 and have never had a boyfriend or done all of the 'firsts.' And I'm way too insecure and scared to even think about dating apps (I can't even bring myself to take a picture) so I think its hopeless for me at this point
Saaame I thought I had written the letter lol. I'm 19, in my first year of college without ever having been kissed and being insecure about my height (I'm 5'10 as well). Now I only get more scared of my first kiss because I feel like at this age I should know what I'm doing, I don't know how to get out of that stupid situation
Shame on you for not putting the cart away!!! I'm the one grabbing empty carts and screaming "f**king lazy ass people" lmfao 🤣 touching on all the things that set me off, carts and driving slow in the left lane!
When Becky was miming the awkward interaction she had after tripping while running, she totally reminded me of a Sims character, and that gave me great joy! 😂
A note about dog poop being left: I served a church that hosted an emergency warming shelter in the basement, and dog poop was the initial reason why the city planning dept had a problem with it. The neighbors were blaming the folks who would shelter with us for the dog poop, but, after conversations with them, and observing for about a month, we realized that the ones leaving the HUGE numbers of poop piles on our property were the neighbors who were complaining about it. Because the neighborhood is very mixed (millionaires next door to subsidized housing buildings), we assumed that people may not be able to afford doggie poop bags, and provided them. Not only did the poop continue to show up, they would also have thier dogs poop next to the dispenser, and take handfuls of bags that they would pocket. It got bad enough that the senior center folks and one of the cops who supported the shelter would camp out out front, and talk to them. The shelter volunteers, the church parishioners, and the folks who frequented the shelter also organized for poop clean up every day of the week. Eventually, we made a joint statement in the local newspaper (us, the shelter, the police, and one of the people on the planning commission), and it stopped. One or two is fine by me (hey, fertilizer?), but for groups that serve vulnerable populations often get targeted, or people assume that no one cares because it functions like public space anyway, but it can really have an impact on safety and the relationships these organizations have with the city. If the apartments next door to a senior center gets rats because of the poop, it really causes problems.
I'm also 5'10" and it took me a while to appreciate my tallness too, especially since I'm also fat, so I'm just a large woman overall. I love being tall and looming over people now though. The only thing I hate is that my pants are always too short.
I've had the cop out to slow down traffic in lower MI once. I think it was mostly for highways with blind corners there. They don't weave, they mostly just sit in the middle between two lanes with their lights on and you get the message. Also I vibed with Becky this whole episode - if you wanna cut me off or be rude or there isn't any parking, that's just what my day is going to be and I always put my cart back.
So happy you touch on the topic of tall girls and dating. A lot of it is just learning to love yourself and having confidence in who you are and most of the time won’t learn most of it until you get older. I’m 5’9 1/2 and always dated guys that are around my height and found myself getting irritated with guys over 6ft dating 5 ft girls and those same girls going after the same guys and making that a trend and I’m over here like “can you stick your own??” It’s just something you have to ignore and focus and people that make you feel good about being with them rather than how it looks.
Nothing wrong with being a late bloomer! I literally manifested my first S.O. at age 30 last year. Also, being a tall goddess is still a goal for me lol. Towering over everyone would be a dream.
Great thoughts on questioning standards and opening yourself up to different kinds of people, but PLEASE don't think that you have to love yourself before others can love you or you can love others. No matter how you might feel about yourself, you are always worthy and deserving of love. You can acknowledge that you don't need to find a partner to be valid AND still want a romantic companion. Those truths don't contradict and it's okay to want love! As a (relatively) late bloomer myself, the best thing is to build your community so you have intimacy from other outlets while you search for a partner (and after you find one too). Also, may or may not be relevant to you, but things went a lot smoother and quicker for me once I realized I liked girls lol. It's a totally different experience and made me feel a lot more attractive when it was from the female perspective.
Speaking of traffic, there’s a 2 lane highway with a 1 lane service road near my house. Rush hour traffic is always SO BAD because people are using the service road to jump ahead of the traffic on the highway but THEY are the ones creating it by merging on the highway in the first place!
I would love the group to chat abt how the sit with us group created a social circle in LA. I am moving for work and don’t know a soul yet, from a different state, so recommendations for starting a new social circle/atmosphere as a 30s professional would really help! Advice, dos and don’ts, been there stories, recommendations, etc would love from the group!
The skiing discussion just made me think about how horribly stressful the whole thing is for me. I convince myself it's fun because it's one of the things I do with my dad but it's actually terrifying. I respect the people who actually find skiing fun, though. Very impressed by Ariel and Matt's apparent high skill levels.
I love manifesting, for me I usually do this 1.-you have to be grateful for what you already have 2.- you have to write down what you want, but like you alredy have it, and how that makes you feel.. try to write on a positive mood 3.- work towards your goal, you are going to have negative thoughts, it´s ok, feel them but dont let them make u lose hope.. Even if sometimes manifestation doesnt work, if you write often you dont forget your goals, and makes you accountable, and when it does work, it´s weird but you feel like you have a connection with the universe somehow lol!
As an Arizonan, I have seen the cop freeway weaving maneuver too and had no idea what was going on. I didn’t see any obstructions or accidents ahead. Don’t know what was up.
My birthday is on Valentine's day. That is when I take my vacation at work and then I hide away. My friends over the last few years come over and make me celebrate at least a little. When I'm in a relationship, I just try to avoid it lol
Manifestation is a more general concept that shows up in a lot of traditions, and has been kind of co-opted / exploded in modern social media culture, as well as in New Age culture. It's important to be aware that there is a LOT of problematic language around it that ignores systemic issues, while at the same time there's totally merit to the importance of intention and how we can "get out of our own way" by following manifestation principles. Personally I think it's less about "I think therefore it happens" and more about aligning with the flow of energy in the universe and NOT getting in your own way by assuming it can't happen (and so you don't work towards it, pursue the opportunity, etc.). Saying what you want in a clear way out loud can also just help clarify exactly what you want!
With the cop swerving to slow down traffic due to an obstruction on the road, (in Illinois) never heard of it, never seen it. But I also barely see cops on the expressway. Also carpool lane, I am an rideshare driver, and I mentioned how we are at times in the express lanes, and the rider asks if it is a carpool lane, or thinking we are paying a toll. I respond with no, nothing like that, we have enough toll roads where we don't need to pay tolls for express lanes.
The part about graduating during covid really is true. I know the events I missed(prom, homecoming, pep rallies, senior ditch day, senior prank, etc) are not detrimental to my life, but I just feel like I never got closure to my high school experience. I was a Junior when Covid hit and now I’m turning 19 in June. I think about it and it makes me really sad.
The cops weaving thing also happens to Phoenix. The first time I've ever seen it the freeway was empty and I've only been driving for 2 weeks I called my dad freaking out. I yelled this was not in the driving test!
I was running past a neighbor’s house and he had left a wooden board on the curb, I jumped on the sidewalk to avoid it but my toe caught the edge. I tripped and tore the knees of my favorite leggings. Our other neighbor was working on his car in the driveway and totally ignored me, which I appreciated lol I just got up and limped away. Another time I tripped over an uneven sidewalk crack. My Treadmill is coming on Friday
As to the police officer weaving across all lanes to slow people down, I can tell you that it happens in Utah. I was one of the first cars behind a police officer that did that and I first thought that the police officer was having a medical emergency. It wasn't until I realized there was debris in the road that I figured out what was happening.
The traffic thing makes sense. When you’re in a tunnel you can’t change lanes and the traffic just keeps moving 😮 there can be traffic leading up and coming out of the tunnel and yet none in the tunnel.
I can totally relate to the height discussion. I’m Maggie’s height and always loved how tall I was, I towered in junior high at 5’6” and then people eventually caught up in high school. But I do feel like I tend to like guys who are my height and I love how tall I am but I get self conscious that they don’t like it. I totally relate to Maggie saying she felt huge in school, I still feel huge sometimes. I’m muscular and strong, 5’8” and lean so definitely not the model body type that society is favoring these days. I appreciate these conversations so much!!!!
I think it's a pretty difficult line to toe on the topic of loving yourself before someone else, and I wish you would've gone deeper on that. It's pretty dangerous to send a message to young impressionable girls and boys that in order to deserve love you have to fully love and accept yourself. I don't think they're related. Yes it's good to love and accept yourself, but you still deserve love and affection even if you don't.
The police weaving back and forth on the freeway; I've seen it happen a couple of times here in Utah. I also was super confused the first time I saw it!
I highly disagree with switching lanes situation lol if there is somewhere to go, u can weave your way out of the traffic. Where I'm at, it tends to be 1 person going too slowly holding everyone else up and no one will pass them. I will every time lol. I'll weave out of it😅
So glad other LA transfers were also freaked out by the cop zig zag the first time they saw it! I was like WHAT IS THIS? They don't do it in Colorado (or the part I'm from at least)!
For the lady who was thinking about her love life around valentines day, my advise is that you should date every now and then without thinking of a relationship. I understand that you have to be a whole person but this is also part of getting to know yourself and knowing what you're looking for in a person
I live in Colorado and I have never seen a cop car slow or regulate traffic like that. I have seen a video of that from California, but never seen anything like that in person
In college my roommate and I would go on a girl date. One of the chain restaurants (chilis? Tgi fridays? Applebees? Who knows) had a drink special for like $1 margaritas or a $5 pitcher of margaritas or something (college was a while ago lol) so we’d have dinner and drinks and just hang out and have fun together since we were single. It’s a perfect night to hang with friends!
As a native NORTHERN Californian and also a person who has lived in three other states now, I have never seen cops weave across lanes. I’m thinking it’s just an LA thing because y’all have crazy traffic. Lolol.
I’ve never seen the cop weaving thing in Miami. LA does seem to have really wide highways though; I remember being amazed at how wide the lanes were when I went in December lol
It's been a while since I've watched RuPaul's Drag Race BUT I'm pretty sure the correct quote is: If you can't love yourself, how the heeeeeell are you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen over herre?!!! (And thank you for bringing it up in the podcast, I did say that's a lovely mantra to revisit every day).
A fun daybook to follow back, a hundred years ago, when the concept of manifesting good things into my life... for the good of all... is A DAY BOOK OF COMFORT AND JOY, by Sarah Ban Breathnach. I love that book, although have not followed it for the past few years. But, I do use the science of mind principals to bring things into my life... vehicles, homes, situations... and I do count on universe to open up room for these things in my life. I call it my "magic." It's fun, right. BTW, I'm 58 and learned all this back in my early 30s.
once i was walking my dog and she pooped a second time after i had already tossed the bag. it was on someones lawn so i found a person doing work in her garden and asked if i could have a bag and she gave me one, but when i went back to the poop site i couldnt find it amongst all the leaves. a neighbour popped out to reassure me that the guy doesnt really care about his lawn anyway so i was in the clear i guess lol
I've never seen that method before, only police cars blocking off the object with their vehicals and putting up their extended lights to signal down the road. You'll see it like half a mile down the road and know to start slowing cause there's an obstruction up ahead.
@@SilverWynterSpirit I was on a jury that the NJ highway Sargent gave us the entire verrrrry long training slide show to show what should happen and I am on the east coast not in NJ but close. Maybe it is only for state they deem to be highway states. 🧐
@@jsmith3021 i've lived in NJ too and they also had extended visibility lights. Maybe it's the backup if the cop don't have one, cause not all of them did. Maybe CA doesn't have them so they usually see the zigzag. I think it looks kind of ridiculous when the cars can just have the extended lights so it's really visible and obvious to everyone what's up.
I definitely say "ate it" or "eat it" depending on the context, but not "bit it". Becky saying "bit it" is the first time I've ever heard someone say that!
I relate to Becky so much! Always putting the carts back even for other people. 😂 And skiing? Well, I gave it a chance. Several chances in fact. I never got past the bunny slope (steeper slopes scare me) and I didn't particularly enjoy it either. Not for me, thanks. 😆

Speaking of traffic, there’s a 2 lane highway with a 1 lane service road near my house. Rush hour traffic is always SO BAD because people are using the service road to jump ahead of the traffic on the highway but THEY are the ones creating it by merging on the highway in the first place!
By far my favorite episode!!! Love when Matt joins you
I would love the group to chat abt how the sit with us group created a social circle in LA. I am moving for work and don’t know a soul yet, from a different state, so recommendations for starting a new social circle/atmosphere as a 30s professional would really help! Advice, dos and don’ts, been there stories, recommendations, etc would love from the group!
How ya'll did Becky's face in the thumbnail...pure gold
I love cross country skiing but never tried downhill skiing. Interesting to hear you speak about skiing!
Lmao I love how Matt also quoted Rupaul wrong😂
The skiing discussion just made me think about how horribly stressful the whole thing is for me. I convince myself it's fun because it's one of the things I do with my dad but it's actually terrifying. I respect the people who actually find skiing fun, though. Very impressed by Ariel and Matt's apparent high skill levels.
I love manifesting, for me I usually do this
1.-you have to be grateful for what you already have
2.- you have to write down what you want, but like you alredy have it, and how that makes you feel.. try to write on a positive mood
3.- work towards your goal, you are going to have negative thoughts, it´s ok, feel them but dont let them make u lose hope..
I think it is usually just to slow down traffic. They used to do that on the freeway in the Bay Area frequently.
My birthday is on Valentine's day. That is when I take my vacation at work and then I hide away. My friends over the last few years come over and make me celebrate at least a little. When I'm in a relationship, I just try to avoid it lol
Yes title 😭❤️
Favorite Podcast ❤️
With the cop swerving to slow down traffic due to an obstruction on the road, (in Illinois) never heard of it, never seen it. But I also barely see cops on the expressway. Also carpool lane, I am an rideshare driver, and I mentioned how we are at times in the express lanes, and the rider asks if it is a carpool lane, or thinking we are paying a toll. I respond with no, nothing like that, we have enough toll roads where we don't need to pay tolls for express lanes.
I still remember prom and graduation fondly (and I'm going on 10 years since both), so it really does have an effect on students during COVID times.
1:02:00
Ariel: You can do those things by yourself... 🤷🏻♀️
I LOVE HER
The part about graduating during covid really is true.
The cop weaving thing on the freeways happens I. Phoenix too! I was just as shocked and confused the first time I saw it!
Growing up my friends and I always said we "biffed it" when we fell. I think it's regional!
Take a shot every time Ariel says “yah” or “yeah”. 😂
I'll weave out of it😅
I also say “ate it.” Haven’t heard Becky’s way of saying it before
So glad other LA transfers were also freaked out by the cop zig zag the first time they saw it!
Also, i didn't have my first bf until i was 17-18 and i wasn't in love but i wanted to try, it taught me a lot about myself and relationships
1st question- I lucked out and lived in a place with a lot of tall boys (them midwest GMOs) and now I'm 5'7 (rounding up) dating a 6'3 male
What is the context of the Becky peeing on Matt's couch story? They said it way too casually lol
Seemed like sarcasm
I adore Matt’s shirt! Please, please, please tell me where he got it!
I live in Colorado and I have never seen a cop car slow or regulate traffic like that. I have seen a video of that from California, but never seen anything like that in person
man, ive never related harder to ariel than over watching the little eta slowly tick down on google maps
Matt Yesss!!!
I remember getting my first ticket for being caught in the carpool lane. Told my parents and they straight up laughed and called me a virgin 🤣
Lolol.
It definitely happens in NorCal. Born and raised here. I’ve seen it happen. I also remember learning about it for my drivers test.
I’m manifesting getting into my dream college currently.
I remember going through the 405 during a road trip when I was little and it forever traumatized me from ever driving through California lol
I’ve never seen the cop weaving thing in Miami. LA does seem to have really wide highways though; I remember being amazed at how wide the lanes were when I went in December lol
I have seen cops do the traffic breaks in the Bay Area in Nor Cal. So it’s probably common in big cities with a lot of traffic.
Omg- Ariel dropping bombs 🤯 loved it!!
I absolutely love Becky's cardigan, does anyone know where it's from??
A fun daybook to follow back, a hundred years ago, when the concept of manifesting good things into my life... for the good of all... is A DAY BOOK OF COMFORT AND JOY, by Sarah Ban Breathnach. I love that book, although have not followed it for the past few years. But, I do use the science of mind principals to bring things into my life... vehicles, homes, situations... and I do count on universe to open up room for these things in my life. I call it my "magic." It's fun, right. BTW, I'm 58 and learned all this back in my early 30s.
I feel like the purple sweater is maggie's favourite sweater 🤔 i see her in it a lot
Okay so I need to know where Maggie bought her skirt immediately. So cute! Edit because I just realized it’s pants. #obssessed
they do the freeway thing in the bay area
My husband and I thoroughly enjoy Kart Narc 😂😂😂
once i was walking my dog and she pooped a second time after i had already tossed the bag. it was on someones lawn so i found a person doing work in her garden and asked if i could have a bag and she gave me one, but when i went back to the poop site i couldnt find it amongst all the leaves. a neighbour popped out to reassure me that the guy doesnt really care about his lawn anyway so i was in the clear i guess lol
I've never been so early in my life! 🖤
Now they have to try skiing! :D Becky (and other try member who don't know how) try skiing!
The state patrol are trained to do that to slow traffic or stop traffic if there is any obstruction in the road. It happens all over the US
I've never seen that method before, only police cars blocking off the object with their vehicals and putting up their extended lights to signal down the road.
I love Maggie's skirt! Brown cow stunning ❤️
EDIT: Wait is is pants?
I definitely say "ate it" or "eat it" depending on the context, but not "bit it". Becky saying "bit it" is the first time I've ever heard someone say that!
I relate to Becky so much! Always putting the carts back even for other people. 😂 And skiing? Well, I gave it a chance. Several chances in fact. I never got past the bunny slope (steeper slopes scare me) and I didn't particularly enjoy it either. Not for me, thanks. 😆
i really like becky‘s outfit
