I feel like some of the food gets stuck in my throat after swallowing. So now i overthink the whole process. I chew until the food is extremely mushy then I swallow and hold my breath then purposely cough sometimes. The whole time I’m chewing I’m breathing and actually thinking about breathing where as before it was not anything I thought about at all. I feel like the main thing now is that Im afraid to breath in after I swallow for fear of aspiration because I have the sensation of bits of food or even sometimes liquid still being in the throat area. Looks like the test I took shows that i swallow ok. How can get back to normal? I feel tortured. Please help me understand if you can. Once a person with normal swallowing ability has swallowed and the bolus goes down are you about to safely breath in? Also, do you think it’s possible that the intentional coughing and hold of breath could be causing the sensation of stuck food, like it’s maybe stoping the normal function. I don’t 🤷🏻 please help, it’s been like 5 months.
Your problem sounds like mine. I over chew my food. I also felt like I forgot how to swallow but the test came back normal. I am currently working with a speech therapist to try to stop thinking about the process
Can you please help me understand this: IMPRESSIONS Grossly functional oral phase with intentionally prolonged mastication, piecemeal deglutition and adequate bolus control and transit. Pharyngeal phase characterized by mildly delayed sallow initiation, mildly reduced hyolaryngeal excursion (hyoid appears to be in elevated position at baseline) and mild vallecular residue which cleared with multiple swallows and/or liquid wash. Mild/flash penetration of thin liquid for consecutive sips and premature spillage for mixed consistency trials. No aspiration of any tested food or liquid materials.
