I bought the 3 available DVDs back in 2000. The Hullabaloo dancers are and always will be my favorites! I ask David Winters about some of the dancers when he was on Facebook. You don't here about them like Barbara Alston and Gene Castle.. he said he lost touch with some of them ..he only was in contact with lada, donna, sheila and Patrick. Still the best show in town!
You can also feel Jerome Robbins' influence on David Winters' choreography cause a lot of these numbers have a tinge of a Jerry Robbins feel to them, especially the balletic elements. I mean David Winters was in the Original Broadway cast of West Side Story (and the film version too!) and was amazing!
Donna McKechnie moves like no one has ever moved. You can see so much of Cassie's "Music and the Mirror" dance in David Winters' steps, and also how she brought them out. So easy to see why Michael Bennett built the dance on her.
Your eye is immediately drawn to her because she is so talented. I think David Winters knew that and that's why he put her in front. And it's clear later in her career that Michael Bennett knew it. She just has a freedom in her body that is phenomenal. Cassie just keeps poppin' her head! 😀
Hullabaloo should have run longer that did on NBC. Unfortunately, Sammy Davis Jr. caused the cancellation to happen. Sammy took Lada Edmund, Jr. under his wing. Lada was the "Go-Go" girl and NBC told Winters to capitalize on it. It was not Winters intention. One show, a huge controversy happened. After a great dance number, Sammy gave Lada a kiss on the cheek. Sammy was 39 years old at the time and Lada was only 17. Sections of America were NOT ready for an older Afro-American kissing an "under-age" white girl. About 50 or so NBC affiliates pulled Hullabaloo off the air right then and there. NBC had no choice but to take Hullabaloo off the air. A shame. NBC replaced it with "The Monkees." BTW, John...I plan to bring Hullabaloo to Broadway. It's been in the works for 7 years.
Thank you for identifying all the great dancers on the show. Lada, Suzanne, Barbara, Michael etc
One of the dancers, Suzanne Charney, is the lead dancer in the amazing dance sequence 'Rich Man's Frug' from the film version of 'Sweet Charity'.

So much skill and unbridled joy from this group.

Nice job adding in the color still pics so we can see the colors of these B&W clips!

Very interesting ☺️🤔!
Sammy Davis, Jr. was one of the only non-youth market personalities with any kind of business hosting the show.
Groovy

The lady at 8:40 reminds me of Josephine Baker.
Wish list., the still images are so cool, but I want to see the show in color..
The woman you identify as Joanie Collins at 12:12 I think is Joanie Sommers.
You are correct. I don't think I will get around to editing and reposting, so your comment will serve as the correction.
The still photo at 2:10 with Lola Folana doesn't match the video as all the performers are in different wardrobes
any with Helen Fokszanskyj
3:50 suzane charney was on rockfiord files episode. i was thinking who the heck is that as in wosy wowow.
At 12.10 it is Joannie Sommers.
Oops. thanks for letting me know. I probably won't get around to re-editing, so your comment will hopefully stand as the official correction. Thanks
