Hullabaloo Dancers 08 Film References
Переглядів 7 тис.3 роки тому
If Quentin Tarantino thinks it's a cool show, then it's official, right? Seen here are a few times Hullabaloo was referenced in film - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, and The Queen's Gambit. Let me know if there are more references out there, please! Hullabaloo was a tv variety show that ran for two seasons from January 1965 to April of 1966, and was considered a sophi...
Hullabaloo Dancers 07 Set Design

Hullabaloo was ground-breaking in many ways, including its fabulous sets. Fun, evocative, designs that captures the pop art/minimalism of the mid sixties! Hullabaloo was a tv variety show that ran for two seasons from January 1965 to April of 1966, and was considered a sophisticated rival to “Shindig.” The show was taped mostly in New York (NBC Brooklyn and 8H at Rockefeller Center) as well as ...

Sammy Davis Jr and Joey Heatherton perform selections from West Side Story, featuring the Hullabaloo Dancers. Cool! Hullabaloo was a tv variety show that ran for two seasons from January 1965 to April of 1966, and was considered a sophisticated rival to “Shindig.” The show was taped mostly in New York (NBC Brooklyn and 8H at Rockefeller Center) as well as NBC Burbank. Hullabaloo aired in color,...

Only 3 of the 48 Hullabaloo episodes were saved in color. The remaining 45 episodes, for some reason, now only exist in black and white. Featured in this compilation: MICHAEL LANDON, PAUL REVERE AND THE RAIDERS, GOLDIE HAWN, DAVID WINTERS, GARY LEWIS, JERRY LEWIS, PAUL ANKA Hullabaloo was a tv variety show that ran for two seasons from January 1965 to April of 1966, and was considered a sophist...

In it's second season, the show seems to have gotten a little bit whiter, and there seems to be a fair amount of changeover amongst the dancers. Nevertheless, it's all wildly entertaining. Featured in this video: PETULA CLARK, PAT BOONE, BRENDA LEE, DEAN JONES, ANNETTE FUNICELLO, DAVID WINTERS, LADA EDMUND JR, PATRICK ADIARTE, SOUPY SALES, SKITCH HENDERSON, KIM WESTON, LESLEY GORE, THE MAMAS AN...

This collection from the first season of Hullabaloo prominently features Michael Bennett, which was the original reason I started editing these videos. His electrifying appearances on Hullabaloo are one of the very few places that one can see him dance. Featured in this video: GEORGE MAHARIS, LESLEY GORE, LOLA FALANA, DEAN JONES, DIONNE WARWICK, THE GENTRYS, NANCY SINATRA, DAVID MACCLULLUM, GEO...

I edited these compilations together to highlight the dancers of Hullabaloo - so please don't get too upset if I cut off some of your favorite singers! At the opening of this video is DAVID WINTERS, the choreographer of Hullabaloo who made several noteworthy appearances on the show throughout its two seasons. David was a Jerome Robbins protege, appearing in both the stage version of West Side S...
Hullabaloo Dancers 01 Introduction
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
Meet the dancers of Hullabaloo! If anyone can identify any of the dancers I missed, please let me know. Popular song and dance used to be so much fun. It seems like most of what we see now is about how seriously great someone can sing, or how seriously sexy they look when they dance, or how seriously little they are wearing. I kinda miss just having fun. I've been researching the life of Broadw...

Nothing to day can quite match this, even something on the level of Dua Lipa's latest tour.

Bring it back so energetic and expressive
Groovy
Just imagine the tech rehearsal alone for this sequence - just to set/choreograph the speed of the entrance of the model bedecked, FLOATING staircase, donut turntable; Kate - OMG, Kate Hepburn, herself, walking toward her models to meet the staircase but not actually moving forward! The donut revolve continuing it's steady, counter-clockwise spin while the models pivot and begin to step-in-time, in-reverse, down the staircase while appearing to be stationary in relationship to the audience while the models who are now upstage begin to ascend, and then descend the stairs . . . all in time to the music, with one step equalling one step down or up the stairs. THAT is why you hire DANCERS! The rotation of the mirrors (mylar?) on the curved upper wall of the upstage, built-in staircase (THAT specific effect will appear again about five years later in MUSIC AND THE MIRROR from A CHROUS LINE). The rotation of the VERY TALL Stage Right wall panels that open up to reveal the outer staircase in its upstage position, thus revealing the symmetrical entrances on different planes, but following mirrored arcs of movement. This is a BRILLIANT example of the beauty of collaboration, marrying concept, design, choreography, movement, costume design, architecture, lighting design, engineering, production and stage management, a highly skilled crew, glorious MUSIC and PERFORMANCE to achieve this EXQUISITELY staged number. I wish Kate had been directed to move naturally amongst her Chanel models, rather than walk awkwardly sideways, while looking backwards and in step to the music. But, honestly, who cares? It's Kate Hepburn. I don't know how they succeeded in having no railings on those staircases, and I sincerely hope no one was injured (I know and worked with some of these performers and stage management), but, the visual impact is SPECTACULAR!
All 1st amendment I guess
Killer publicity
Memories I was there wee how times change
And am not crazy, Pentagon. I drank some beers, but am not crazy!
2;58" chick disses the dude rubbing his hair like he's a little kid. she would never do that to a named star.
3:50 suzane charney was on rockfiord files episode. i was thinking who the heck is that as in wosy wowow.
why was little joe cartwright there?
everyone thinner then but the women dancers looked great. all the big booty stuff now is a cute name for hog.
Joey heatherton was underrated as a performer, unfairly compared to Ann-Margret. But the girl could dance.
SHE WAS SPECTCULAR... NO ONE CAN TOUCH HER TRUE GIFTS!
Who is the gal at 2:30?
Joey Heatherton never should have divorced Lance Rentzel . I could give a reason why but I would get kicked off U- Tube .
Featuring “A Chorus Line” Tony winners Donna Mackechnie and Michael Bennet.
I was 16 years-old when Hullabaloo first aired in 1965, and I didn't know how lucky I was to be a teenager back then...until the Vietnam War and the draft sent Uncle Sam to our house with 'GREETINGS'.
I was 16 years-young in 1965, and I have fond teenage memories of 'Hullabaloo'.
Originally telecast on February 23, 1965. This would have been perfect as a production number on Sammy's own variety show in 1966, or producer Gary Smith's previous series, "THE BELL TELEPHONE HOUR"......but it was out of place on "HULLABALOO", which was supposed to feature rock and pop performers.
I fell in love with the brunette with the fob hairdo. That's Donna McKechnie from Pontiac, Michigan. What a doll. She went on to Broadway, Dark Shadows and a Chorus Line. I noticed her from my first viewings of the Hullabaloo video. She had IT.
What year was this performed? Thank you so much for the upload!
Bebe Neuwirth was just the wrong kind of quirky for Lola.
There's just gotta be some way to build a time machine and go back. 🥰
Sally is like one of those call center supervisors I used to have
David Winters was the greatest dancer and choreographer. He gave it all he had!
Love all these videos and and performers dancers music. What an era of great music and talent. ❤I could watch these all day amd never get bored. I was born in 1969 and always always always been so into the 1960s era.
She got glitches as things went in another direction.. ¥)¢}}=÷ק¶
You can also feel Jerome Robbins' influence on David Winters' choreography cause a lot of these numbers have a tinge of a Jerry Robbins feel to them, especially the balletic elements. I mean David Winters was in the Original Broadway cast of West Side Story (and the film version too!) and was amazing!
any with Helen Fokszanskyj
Sammy Davis 1:05
The still photo at 2:10 with Lola Folana doesn't match the video as all the performers are in different wardrobes
The lady at 8:40 reminds me of Josephine Baker.
You can see where Quentin Tarantino used the Michael Landon clip as inspiration when Rick Dalton does his bit on Hullabaloo in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. . .
totally
1920s

Garber was great, but one good revision (having old Joe participate in "Near To You") was undone by the insane decision to make "Two Lost Souls" a duet between Lola and Applegate.
I LOVED this show. Shows like this is why I love music and dancing so much 💃🏾🕺🏾🎶😊
Patrick Adiarte is amazing...i met him yrs ago when i worked for a company that franchises Hullabaloo dance clubs for teens.....
I was a huge fan of Hullabaloo but don't remember this number...it was a total WOW!!! David Winters was such a great choreographer and the dancers were perfection!!!
Wow. I was a kid in this production! You guys were so cute!
One of the dancers, Suzanne Charney, is the lead dancer in the amazing dance sequence 'Rich Man's Frug' from the film version of 'Sweet Charity'.
Love it.💚💜💙💜💚
Should have stuck to a more rock and roll format
I'm so glad they didn't
Touch 'a
The touch 'a is for the original statement.
I'm curious do you have a full version of this show? I am huge kurt weill fan & Love Life material is hard to come by. Please please let me know. Thank you

Nice
Looking for Michael Nunez’s moms, heard she was drop dead gorgeous go go dancer on this show.
I love it!
Sammy Davis, Jr. was one of the only non-youth market personalities with any kind of business hosting the show.
