Game of the year for our playgroup :D We played the campaing with 3 players. The end result was absolutely close: 1. 1216 points 2. 1214 points 3. 1204 points. It was tens and pure fun throught the whole campaign. Best TTR and Legacy experience for us. I agree that the story aspect is not a big deal and there's luck factor in the game (the OG TTR has as well), but the gameplay throught the whole campaign was fun.
Maybe or maybe the spread is more unusual. You've both played the campaign once and had very different experiences, I'm not buying it at the minute as I'm not a big fan of TtR. Thanks for your review and thoughts.
I have finish the game and can say everyone in the group enjoyed every game. Yes, later games can last over an hour, can have a lot of mechanisms, robber, ghost train, broken bridges, shares, treasure but nothing too hard to handle. Some got more postcards, some do not get many, some tried different strategies in different games in the hope it would win them the game. Yes, nothing mind blowing new in the whole game, but then there is nothing new under the sun. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Verdict 8 out of 10.
Glad we'll be playing through this after the errata, clarifications, and details have come out. This sounds like the difference between Kemet vs. Kemet1.5/ Blood and Sand.
There's already one errata for the "2 component broken game" I mention. It still makes the card stupidly powerful and you can still "semi break" the game with it but it's not as ridiculous now. But it's stupid that it didn't get noticed in playtesting.
Appreciate the review and you sharing your perspective! Interestingly base TTR is just meh for me due to it being pretty basic and luck-based, but my wife and I are halfway through this one and having an absolute blast. I liked the changes they made to the basic rules even in year 1 and for some reason the luck factor doesn’t at all bother me in this one because I’m just having a great experience. Maybe it’s the result of playing it with my non-gamer wife so I’m taking a much more casual approach and not at all concerned about winning? Which is unusual for me as I usually gravitate towards low-luck & high-depth strategy games. Or maybe (but hopefully not) it’s because we’re only halfway through and haven’t gotten to the slog.
Rahdo suggested playing with the event deck upside down so you can see the upcoming event. But he was only one session far into the game at that point. So my question is: would this variant cause problems with the legacy stuff? Thx
Would make those times when you're checking which event is "visible" a bit fiddly, but even then that only helps with the next one and it doesn't solve the problem with a certain "board" in the game that will potentially screw you over AFTER you've already built stuff.
Yes I figured this was a time when other player's verdicts were warranted given we all played the 12 games. And yeah the box is huge, it's not a camera trick :P
I'm in the middle of this game, and my gripe is also with the event deck. Not are the events annoying in themselves, but since I run the game, when the events card change I lose track of whose turn it is or what card I need to turn.
We kept losing track also!! Too much to keep tabs on by the time you get to the later part of the campaign. Too many people are rating it highly based on the first few games which is misleading.
I appreciate your honesty! I debated getting this game but the even stronger luck component would be despised by me and my family. You've saved us a good chunk of money and a lot of time.
Kudos to Asmodee for daring to give you a game. And Kienda for sponsoring, really appreciate it! Great review as always. And I'm still able to make a mini player YT of ONLY your vids. Weird.
Thanks for the reviews as always. Very interested to see this and it will make me think carefully before buying. If you would are going to bin the box and everything, would you be willing to post the box and components to Poole? Would be a good storage box for all my map boards and the components would be good for prototypes 😁
Still looking forward to Euphoria review from Stonemaier, but glad you got this as a review copy. Im playing through it with my family and they are willing to keep playing it so thats a win for us. If we find the brokeness I am inspired from your thoughts to interpret any rules so it doesnt break the game. For things that do break the game, are you going to be able to review Innovation Ultimate edition with all the things?
@@TheBrokenMeeple playing ultimate with all the expansions at once could use your voice, and Id like to hear your thoughts on the changes. Euphoria and ignorance is bliss is back in stock and Om 85% sure you havent played it. I think you may love how quick and mean it can be.
I have never felt like I had much agency in Ticket to Ride base; the different values on the route cards make it among the Candyland-est amongst gateway games. Your comment on the total point hauls after 12 rounds verging on 1,000 is why basketball games are counted by round rather than by cumulative points scored at the end of the season 🤦
Wouldn't have changed the eventual winner I don't think, but yeah I think just summing up a ton of points and nothing else was a bit of a boring resolution.
Thanks for the review! I don't need TTR but it sounds like if I were to pick one up I'd probably lean towards getting the anniversary edition with the cool trains and stations than this one with the standard pieces and what sounds like a meh campaign that doesn't really do anything too different.
If I were getting a new Ticket To Ride, I would get either US with its expansion, Europe with its expansion, Germany, or maybe Asia which can be played in two or three paired teams (I don't have Asia so I don't know exactly what's in the box, but I enjoyed playing). And you will have the standard size trains and train cards to use in other versions. The anniversary game, at least the one for Europe which I got, is huge. I left it with my family members in the Midwest, where they have a kitchen table about four times the size of mine.
We are halfway through and so far I would give it a 7. I think one thing that would help it is if the event deck were two cards revealed.: The current and the one coming after. That could possibly allow some planning and reduce the luck factor a bit.
Well, there are two possibilities. One is that they don’t consider those things to be negatives. The other is that they are evil money grubbing scum, and only our brave hero is honest enough to tell the truth.
Its a shame that it apparently has a snowball effect. I think The rise of Queensdale handled that better with basically giving the leaders a handicap though that game had problems on its own. I was considering buying this since there are very few competitive legacies out there and i don't like coops but unless i see it discounted ill pass for now. Thanks for the review.
I’d keep the trains. They’re unique in design which is cool. I’m about half+ through found the extra rules and business a bit too much and take away from the fun of the game by being too distracting. I agree about the plot though a lot of the narrative and gameplay feels a bit pasted on top.
I would have liked the final board state to be better than what you are describing in order to keep it and not throw it in the bin. Dissapointed about that. I accept it is a luck fest and will still play it with my family because even though it didn’t work for you, others (even your friends) rate it higher. Even though it was a difficult gaming experience, the good news is you will get more views being a contrarian, something you will enjoy in the end.
I know it's not going to be all laughter and sunshine when I see that the good things segment is four minutes long and the bad things segment is nine minutes long
Playing this two players with my wife and we are on game 5. So far I don't have a lot to disagree with you on. It seems a fine game, but overpriced and too short for that price. It would have been better if not a Legacy game and instead a resettable campaign where one play through you won't see everything in it.
We are also 5 games in. Took 3 sessions and we will likely play the rest one evening at a time for a total of 10 nights entertainment. £8 for a night is not overpriced as I have a unique game to continue with and game stories to talk about. Ticket for 1 person for a 2D film at our cinema is £11.40
@@robertbentley3734 Let's just say the entertainment value of this is a lot more like straight to home video for me and not theater worthy. My City and Welcome to the Moon are both much better and at less than half the cost.

I think you are completely wrong on this one! Pandemic Legacy you are joking? 1 out of 10 The worst legacy game out there - only if you play it solo with all the characters because you actually don’t need anyone else to play pandemic legacy.
PL from the start to the choice of character makes the game pointless Example: This character clears all the cubes if a visit this area - better go there then, this character does this... oh, better go there then, oh and your character kind of useless this round so be a good chap and help out someone... No! I want to do this sir! Don't do that because we will all lose! Oh, OK - I'll just go to the loo then and while I'm there you may as well take my turn and the next one as well! In fact, it is easier to win if one player thinks for all of us. PL overrated pointless legacy game ever. As least TTR legacy is TTR. However, I do agree with you on price/worth it for a legacy game that you may not play when finished. I suppose one one to look at it: costs £18 per person for a 2 hour cinema ticket l, TTR 10 - 12 hours give or take a little 3 or 4 players - 1 player £108 × 3 or 4 players.
Yeah the maths is a bit off and also I'm with him, where on earth are you spending £18 on a cinema ticket. Remember that London isn't typical price level. I'm near Portsmouth and tickets are always < £10, sometimes only a fiver if you go at the right time.
Ok, I'll redo the maths for you. Cinema tickets £7.99, but I'm calling it £8, cheap seats without drinks and snacks. Generously, I'll say the film lasts 3 hours but more likely 2 plus 1 hour adverts. TTR 12 sessions overall around 12 hours with 4 people. Therefore 4 x £8 =£32 × 4 sessions to equal the 12 hour TTR playtime = £128. TTR £80. I'd say TTR Legacy is not bad valve for money. Now I'm off to see Dune 2 😊
