I agree, all three are fun! I need to play Argentina again, as I played it only two times and didn't get to it again, but was able to play NZ six times already. Played GWT 1ed. 30+ times. And it is super cool to see that the core system is really that good to give us two more versions that feel different enough to defy the milking-the-cash-cow callers. 1st is more about long term strategy, Argentina is the tightest with very close calls what you really have to do and NZ offers a variety of mid-term goals with more coziness. Tbh a lot more than Brass Birmingham offered compared to Lancashire. Staying a Pfister fanboy with Maracaibo staying my #1
I really like this one. Maybe slightly more than the base game. Either way I will be keeping two of the GWT games, 2nd edition and New Zealand. I have room for both with how different they are.
Such a good game. Also a 9 for me. Definitely in my top 10. Only draw back from being a 10. Is the setup up and tear down. Also I wish the spots for houses at the bottom of your player board was on the side instead. Because it takes up so much space. Can’t barely fit it in the table without the bottoms reaching over the edge of the board. 😂
It's interesting to still see that the building strategy is considered non-viable in base GWT. It's actually the dominant strategy with 3 and 4 players, but it does fall off completely with just 2p. Not sure yet about GWT Argentina building strategy; I've see it work as part of a farmer+builder strategy, or almost work as train+builder. It does feel like some intermediate buildings are better than those in the base game, where you'd aim for building 10 first and foremost.
Both GWT 2nd and RTTN 2nd ed actually nerfed builders because they were too powerful. RTTN 1st edition had made them slightly stronger, but that's what 2nd ed is for. :)
@@BoardGamingRamblings it's the strategy that needs the most precise setup and most money, so I'm not surprised. You'd usually see people deliver twice or even three times to Kansas City. Get a builder in the first loop, two more as soon as possible, use the 4th builder spot to get a 4 or 5-builder building, then upgrade that one right away to the 10th building (which are 8 or 9-builder buildings). Sometimes you'd see the most powerful building out in 2-3 loops.
Of course there are setups that don't favor this, sometimes too few builders come out, other times they are contested by several players. But even with players purposely slowing down builders and 2nd edition nerfing them they are still the more powerful strategy in higher player counts.
Having the game available online has certainly developed the meta-game a lot compared to the early days, and it has informed the changes in the second edition.
Thanks for this. It's getting a little confusing as to which game we should own if we have the original version of Great Western Trail and want something with a little more depth to revitalize the game.
@@BoardGamingRamblings Personally NZ, as it does two things for me. Comes with the Rails to the North expansion in the box (almost)... More layered which is what I like without actually being punishing....I get a bit more open feeling like how I feel playing Brass Birmingham.... Hence this find a space on my shelf...
Hello! Sunniva here 👋 I speak plenty, but as english is not my native language I sometimes struggle with words and Johannes might «jump» into my sentences 😊
Hey! Thank you for the feedback! A duo dynamic can always be better, so even though we are happy with where we are, we can always be even better! :) Glad you enjoyed the review anyways :)
Love the review! Thanks ❤ Just a bit annoying when watching the video as both of you always speak at the same time. It is very much appreciated if it can be improved, otherwise, the video is a bit noisy and messy.
Thank you for the feedback, and I'm happy you enjoyed the review! I watched it back now, and yes, we ended up speaking a bit at the same time in this one, haha! That is bound to happen from time to time when there is no scrips and we are excited, but we always try to make it a minimum :)
Thank you SO much for this overview & review! Very excited to try this one out!
Thank you so much for watching 🤩 Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes to everything! I also want to go back and play Argentina, but we’ll see when we’ll have the time for that, hehe! Thanks for watching 🤩
You guys have a good chemistry! Enjoyed watching
Thank you so much :D

Yeah, I agree! We will keep all three 😅
Great video, thank you very much!
Thank you for watching, Alexander! Always means a lot! We are so thankful for all the hours of fun you have given us! 🤩

Fun to hear! We are no experts (played the base game 10-15 times I think) we just always felt the buildings where a hard thing to do 😅

Glad you enjoyed it! If you want the biggest change, New Zealand will be a good fit I think!
For me this is like Brass Birmingham and the original like Lancashire....
And which one do you like the most? ;)

I'm sorry, but he just doesn't her speak. Thats sad
That said...this is a good review!
