I’ve watched this movie 20+ times and even rewatching it a couple nights ago, it still evoked such positive emotions in me. This movie absolutely holds up. It has fantastic characters, a phenomenal score, incredibly exciting action sequences, and a perfect showcase of old school blockbuster filmmaking at its best. I have always and will always love this movie for the perfect film that it is.

I agree. I’m excited but also nervous, because unlike Star Wars which has so many characters associated with it that Lucasfilm can make a bad show or movie with some characters and then make a great show utilizing other characters, there is only one Indiana Jones so if Lucasfilm botches this, people will not be happy.

@@AverageJoe483atched em all for the first time, 4 is exactly like all of them. Indy is great, solid side characters, weak villain as usual, some fun set pieces, simple story. The only thing that makes 4 different is some poor cgi mainly in that jungle car chase scene. I mean whats the difference between an alien ufo and supernatural ghosts melting faces- not much they are both supernatural. If raiders came out today, it would not nearly be as loved. Solid B+ franchise. My biggest gripe is the cartoonish villains in every movie and very simple story

I vividly remember dressing up as Indy and running across our backyard as a kid. My brother would dress up as Luke Skywalker and we would fight with like the plastic toys. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a magical masterpiece, it's simple yet historic. It means a lot to me. One specific thing that I liked about Raiders of the Lost Ark was that it put adventure front and center. The entire film is dedicated to being an action adventure film about archaelogy. It delves deep into archaelogy without making it boring. I also hate this film because it ignited a fear of snakes in me, that are engraved in me ever since.

It's not hyperbole to say that this is one of the films that had the biggest impact on me as a movie fan. I was 5 when my older sister made me watch the VHS tape of it with her (probably way too young), and I'll never forget it. I felt so grown up that she trusted me enough to let me watch it with her. I just remember sitting there in the dark room watching the opening scene in the temple, and I was glued to the screen from then on. I even peeked through my hands everytime she told me to close my eyes throughout 😂 She introduced me to the other two not long after, and it's been one of my favorite franchise ever since

This movie is a cult classic, but as a younger audience member, does it live up to its reputation for me?
Yes. This movie, along with Jaws, was what made me fall in love with Spielberg. Everything from the characters, to the score is absolutely perfect. The lead character is iconic but he’s complex because he’s not in particularly the noble hero. The villains being Nazis can allow them to die in rather violent ways and you have no problem with it or feel it’s unreasonable. The concept is so simple that you can follow along with the story so easily. Lastly, the action, while not as dominant throughout the movie, is so memorable, and none of its cgi. This movie is just something of else and I’d say it’s a 10/10
P.S. Love your Indy outfit Sean

@@merksmovies25 I respectfully disagree man. Crusade has the best 3rd act of the series. Those challenges are compelling emotionally for the character’s faith as well as for the fate of his father. It feels like they are doing the tests together, both of them trying to get in each other’s head with the way Spielberg cuts back and forth between Ford and Connery.

I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time during the Covid-19 lockdown. As a point of reference, I am 22-years old (born 2000). I loved it right from the get go. Every single action sequence is different and is memorable, which I cannot even say something about Temple of Doom, or Last Crusade. Those have memorable sequences, but not all of theirs' are. Here, all of them are memorable.
However, on my most recent rewatch 2 weeks ago, I realised that I was much more into the Indy-Marion scenes. Even more than the action. So, while I'm not from the same generation a those that grew up with this film, or watch it as a kid, I love it with all my energy. Easily top 10 Hollywood films.

Raiders of the Lost Ark is not only one of the best films ever made and one of my all time favourite films of all time, but it’s also one of the most culturally significant, it’s place in the history of cinema both genre-defining and immortal.
Raiders of the Lost Ark helped to define my childhood alongside Star Wars, James Bond and Spider-Man.
At twelve years old, I begged my Mum to buy me a leather jacket just like Indy’s, and I longed to own a battered and worn fedora hat…
Even now, Indiana Jones transports me back to my childhood and it’s sense of wonder and adventure!
Raiders of the Lost Ark was the spark that gave birth to a legend as two influential directors joined forces.
It’s actually a rather extraordinary tale of how this film and character came to be…
Raiders of the Lost Ark continues to provide the template for action and adventure films forty years after it’s release, with it’s cultural impact felt throughout the landscape of modern cinema.

Well to be fair, Williams had already scored 50+ movies starting in 1958 and countless TV shows including land of the giants, Lost in Space and Gilligan’s island before he was doing Raiders so not sure we can say he was just getting into movies. As for movies, out of the 50+ you had Poseidon Adventure, Star Wars, The Towering Inferno, Jaws, Superman, Sugarland Express, Dracula etc etc etc so many. He started in the 40s in the studio system playing Piano on scores and then started composing….

Like you said, the best memorable bits are the cheeky little twists. My favorites are:
Indy shooting the guy with double swords. Very logical.
The German guy menacingly brandishing a strange tool which becomes a coat-hanger. Made Marion and me squirm!
The best one is the burning bar fight when Indy is grappling with a henchman over a gun. Both are struggling and the German guy says "Shoot them. Shoot them both." Both Indy and Henchman quickly make a truce and teams up to fire back at German guy. Should'a treated your henchmen more nicely, German guy!

Just watched the original trilogy for the first time! The only one I'd seen til then was Crystal Skull(i know, thats gotta be a sin, right?) Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade are phenomenal!! Don't care for Temple of Doom, never need to watch it again. But 1&3 are some of my all time favs! 😁 Being a young and spoiled modern fan of action films, they totally stand up to everything coming out today. The pacing is great. Never slows down. The action is so fun, and even funny with great details. 10/10

32:07 What a travesty, I’m starting to worry that classics like this will lose their steam and popularity as time goes on, because my brother does not like this movie, nor does he like Jaws, or even Star Wars, something I’ve said thousands of times. And it’s just such a gut punch that these movies that are phenomenal and just perfect, don’t have the same reputation as they previously had just because of what cinema has turned into now. One things for sure, when I have kids, their first movies are going to be movies like this just so I can keep their reputation alive!

I understand with indiana jones, i think there are a bunch of things that dont hold up like the storytelling- very weak, even a simpleton can follow it, the bad guy is terrible and cartoonish. But its still fun. Kids these days had a difficulty watching older films. These 80s movies will be looked back on like black and white movies

The movie is phenomenal and has 2 flaws: 1) RPGs weren’t invented yet when Raiders takes place, and 2) Indy and Marion have no actual effect on the final outcome of the story. The Nazis would’ve opened the Ark of the Covenant and been melted whether Indy intervened or not.
