  • In this video I break down the books that I own, how I use some of them and how affordable this niche game in the hobby can be.
If you want it to be free it can be at www.basicfantasy.org/ but as like the rest of nerdom we like to hold the physical books in our hands and resad through them.
So take a trip through my catalogue with me and maybe jump into this excellent game.

BFRPG is hands down the best deal in RPGs available. For the price of one core rulebook of any other RPG, you can buy their entire catalog in print. Just an amazing project and community. BFRPG is an incredible game as well. I run OSE because I like the layout and is closer to B/X, but if I wasn't running OSE I'd be running BFRPG. However, I use a TON of BFRPG for my OSE game - Equipment Emporium, the field guides, adventure anthologies & other adventures, the combat options supplement for fighters, etc... BFRPG is a GOLD MINE!

I play in an OSE game and run BFRPG and they both have the feel I like for fantasy role playing games

Thanks for this walkthrough. I’ve not explored Basic Fantasy anywhere near enough as a standalone. It was good to see it laid out this way.

Really glad you liked it mate, your videos on the gazetteers have made me very interested on using elements of Mystara in my games

Regarding experience: I deliberately made advancement slow because it's always easier to give a little more to the players than it is to give less. Several parts of the game are designed that way, actually.

All three of J.D. Neal's adventure books are definitely homages; they resemble the originals, but definitely go their own way rather than just copying the old stuff.

And thank you for the game mate. It's been a pleasure to read and play and so easy for me to DM with without having to dedicate loads of time understanding every little rule.

Always found low level play the most enjoyable so I personally don't mind a slow advancement experience system.
Just discovered your channel and subscribed for more. BFRPG is a great product line at an incredible value and it's supported by an awesome community.
    Cheers!

Yep couldn't agree more, I honestly don't enjoy world shattering mega plots (though there's a time and a place) the low levels is where it's at

Video Idea: Talk about your 3 favorite BFRPG full length of adventures and your 3 favorite adventure anthology series adventures. I think a lot of people are sleeping on adventure anthologies, they are chock full of great scenarios for one shots. I'm running some OSE one shots this year and will for sure be running a couple of BFRPG adventure anthology adventures, I'm looking at Zombrarie estate and Beneath Brymassen but I'm curious which ones you think are good, particularly for 1st level characters.

Nice! Any Old-School TTRPG fans owe it to themselves to buy as many Basic Fantasy RPG books as they'd normally have to spend to buy a D&D 5E core book, even if they have no interest in switching. Buy Blackapple Brugh, the Adventure Anthology series, and Equipment Emporium for sure.

Id also recommend the JNx series, great open source clones of some classics, if finding the inspirations is difficult/expensive. Big nods to the classics, but they are very much their own.

The artwork I find to be a big selling point. It's endearing, every artist that contributed has their own style. It's not overly sanitized and corporate like so many other games have become, which takes a lot of the charm out of the books from many other publishers.
