As a fellow collector its cool to see that phone collecting is a thing now. And they have one very cool use today : With the Pixel 1 and 1 XL Google gave owners the ability to create unlimited photo and video backups in full quality to Google photos. And that even applies if you buy one used today. So one of the uses I have them for (besides still being a very solid phone) is to plug a USB drive into them and back all my photos up to Google photos for free. This works even with photos not taken by phone. And I guess this "exploit" in combination with the low sales numbers and the fact its the first generation of Google Pixel phones explains the high price you have to pay these days.
Yasss, the 2016 being able to upload whatever you want to full quality, no cost to your account, has allowed me to upload nearly all of my 1.3 terabyte film collection to a free 15gb account and still be at 0 percent.
The wedge shape was probably a choice based on the depth needed for the camera hardware, instead of a bump. I kinda like the idea, except that it is likely top heavy which could feel pretty odd.
Bought from a work colleague #XL 128gb for £50 with orignal box 📦 in decent condition battery still good on it And don't ferget unlimited Google storage in full resolution OG! orignal gangsta 😎 It's worth buying mate! Whi knows what the value will be in years to come Defo a collectors item ❤
Followed the Pixel brand up to the 8 pro, but ran into too many problems with it (probably just my unit. Returned it, dug out my Pixel 4xl (super fast face unlock), and then happily dusted off my 2013 Nexus 7 (which I'm watching this on) Back when Google did things because they wanted to. Nexus 7, wireless charging and lovely screen, Pixel 4 with crazy fast face unlock.(don't get me started about me still using my Google daydream with !y Pixel 2 for movie watching, love that thing) Another great video, keep them coming, love a bit of nostalgia👌👌

Thanks for this nice video. Yes, still unlimited photos and videos! And now with LineageOS 20, it still gets updates fast! And LineageOS21 is already out, I just looked! So Android 14 is available for the Pixel XL!! So updates are still coming for at least the coming year!
+1 for youtube video for one time; 1 - Unlimited photo storage 2 - nethunter; 3 - Photos, much better even todays average phones can take' 4 - videos for podcast; 5 - battery; 6 - you can use as Alfred Camera 7 - taking 360 photos; 8 - micro photo; 9 - privacy extra phone; 10 - Custom OS (linage OS or similar) + Gapps - it does have laser focus also.
I've put lineage 21 on it and battery life seems better than before! But the camera doesn't work as good as it could... What makes me thinking of using it daily, is the design. Every phone looks the same today. But not this. Especially the white one.
Just bought a pixel and pixel xl both for $55. In my opinion is worth it just for the unlimited cloud backup. Maybe I'll use it as a backup if something happens to my pixel 6 too
I just noticed you upgraded your mic. Love your videos even more now! I got the Pixel 7 this year instead of going with the 8 and saved ~170 bucks. Did I make a good decision?
Yeah the mic upgrade was much needed! I’ve not tried the pixel 7 myself but I returned my 8 because of the amount of issues I was having with it. I’m back on the pixel 6 for now.
Just got rid of my pixel in 2018 for the access max which was a better phone and it could zoom farther but I will say one thing that’s good about the pixel 1 2016 in 2024 is this software is pretty decent you can tell the cameras dated But it’s not bad by any means it’s honestly in my opinion better than a lot of other phones and at the time it was super expensive but nowadays with the camera, it’s literally along the lines of an iPhone 8 detail in terms of the camera Overall, not bad my Google pixel was really bad it was dying last night because I had the standard pixel and the pixel XL my phone would die in less than 2 to 3 hours maybe 4 if I’m lucky The phone that I have now obviously last me 12+ hours I have the 14 Pro Max now I bought it in 2023 so I’ll probably wait iPhone 8 or even iPhone 18 or 19/20 because then they will really be a big from my 14
Can you still take a picture of the moon with the pixel because I know what the iPhone you can you just have to know a little trick where you take the exposure all the way down and then you tap and focus on the moon. It might take a couple of tries to tap to focus, but just tap below or above the moon After zoomed in all the way take the exposure all the way down to zero and then tap to focus below, or above the moon, as it zoomed in all the way, and then take the slider and take down the brightness of the screen and bam the moon is there. I wonder if this thing can take photos of the moon I would totally buy it in 2024 if it can take pictures of the moon
Have a 3A got cheaply, am thinking about another pixel for me/Mom. I love the camera. My mother uses my Pixel 3A for apps. Certainly will be looking again.
I have a pixel1 i want to use as a dedicated gimel phone.... but the battery is %99.9 dead. It is very difficult to find anyplace to replace the battery. Google wants $80 + shipping (i believe). I plan on powering it from my insta360 flow gimbel, but having a real battery would be very helpful. I hate to toss it as the camera is certainly good enough for my own vlogging needs or remote video capture on the Quail farm. I guess I could affix an external battery bank somehow, especially one that has a usbc in and out so I could charge the battery from the gimbal. Or I could save the cash and by an older Iphone so my hollyland Lark M2 combo kit can use all 3 included receiver dongles (3.5mm, android, + lightning)
it's really really hard to come buy. there was one listed on swappa for like $100. there was another on ebay uk which was pretty smashed up as if a truck drove over it.
@@rossniem its okay bro i get a lot of people like to keep them even if they dont exactly use them i found my pixel 1 xl after 3 days of looking and its shipping right now, thanks though appreciate you responding
Nah your forgetting the most important feature the unlimited photo and video storage
I remember being emailed saying it was being cancelled and I was so disappointed. But yeah it’s STILL on this phone.
I had an email saying it was but it still looks to be there which is good news
@NeoCatfrost i have pixel 3 , installed PE rom and have unlimited google photos at original quality
@@shahezahmed9960nah mate the PE rom just shows as unlimited but isn’t really, it counts against ur 15gb storage
@@rossniemthey had an email but got called out for false advertising. you can't promise unlimited then cut it off.
I remember when it came out, I talked so much smack on it. But it's surely has come a long way! (Commenting from a Pixel 8)
Yeah it’s great to look back at these OG phones to see how far they’ve come. I bet you’ll love the pixel 8 Benjy!

Getting harder to find good quality ones but I got it on eBay. If I wanted a good quality now I'd probably try CEX in the UK.

I have to disagree. The camera is just not good enough for 2024, not even for social media. The dynamic range is too lacking in photos.
