That's some amazing footage that you got there!. I think that hog likes playing with its food too much!. Kudos to the cat for stealing a few scenes in this mini-movie!. Usually the experts say hedgehogs out in the daylight means they're in trouble, but I reckon they like to come out as they're hungry devils. I used to feed one every day that came out from the undergrowth, same time, same place. Would sit there and it would crunch away happily on cat crunchies and mealworms before disappearing and going its own sweet way. They're fascinating creatures to watch.
@@AdamWalter Apparently they can come out to eat and drink during the day if hungry or thirsty. Supposedly the only time to worry is during the hibernation months. UK based wildlife websites like charities and such reckon that hedgehogs will wake up during the day and usually go back to sleep at some point. Some people myself included just thought they'd sleep all day without periods of waking up, this is untrue supposedly. I only know any of this because one night recently I was outside and could hear a sort of grunting snorting noise and I heard rustling noises in a compost bag, thought it was a fox. Turns out it was a father, mother and two baby hedgehogs inside. Welcome addition to the garden, especially with the tens of slugs and snails outside every night. Seeing them eat those fuckers brings me great delight.
They stay up longer if they're hungry, which it looks like this lad is. They also stay up longer and longer in the months leading up to hibernation to find food. If you see a hedgehog out in the day, you should give them a look over though, maybe offer them some water and food. This one seemed a bit unwell tbh, the fact that it wasn't bothered by you filming meant it was either injured/unwell or very very hungry.
Hello, I would like to contact you as part of my work. I am currently in charge of coordinating actions on the hedgehog within the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) in France. It is an association for Nature protection. One of our missions is to produce a small video to inform people about what they can do in their gardens to help hedgehog. one of the solutions indicated is not to use anti-slug granules so as not to poison the hedgehogs that eat them. This video will be diffused in differents medias. It will not be sold. We need a small video (fews secondes) of a hedgehog eating a slug. Looking for that on UA-cam, I found your video: ua-cam.com/video/xBAJuj4Q7BI/v-deo.html. So I contact you to ask if you allow us to freely use a small part of your video on our video to illustrate hedgehog eating slugs. If you give us permission to use this video, could you tell me the terms and conditions of use and the credit that must be indicated. I’ll stay tuned if you need more information. Thanks in advance. Have a nice day
I’d love to hire your hedgehog for my garden!
Slugs carry lungworm which can be fatal in hogs. They only eat them when they're desperate. Hogs out in the day mean they're not OK.
That's my thought. Poor hoggie
They can go out if it's cloudy tho. And I thought they ate snails
Slugs are riddled with parasites. Wonder if maybe this hedgehog is already infected with one and that's why it's out in the daytime.
It's a very young hoglet, judging by its size. Those are often out & about during daytime; so is their mother until the hoglets are fully weaned.
The hedgehog is really cute
Its hungry! Out in the day hedgehogs are either dying or starving and succumb to eating deadly slugs

The hedgehog cannot eat these snails. These snails have a lot of parasites on them and the hedgehog can get pneumonia.
In the daytime?
Blimey
The hedgie are just having a foot massage 🥰
I read that hedgehogs are abnormal to appear in light, and this is lunch time.
Yes, I'm not sure why it was out during the day.

My wildlife video of the weekend.
That's sweet! And not shy?
Not at all. Didn't even seem to realise I was there.
That's cool, I have a soft spot for those spiky little fellows, sadly enough mostly I see them on the road due to road kill.
Was it able to eventually eat the slug?
