This video is the first I watched about hedgehogs in a human home. They certainly are cute and like toys and they do like a belly rub which helps them unwind!... Aww!!
I didn't know they could earlier until our hedgehog spontaneously had two babies. She never made a sound (besides growling), but her kids definitely squeaked

I do think these guys and girls are the original 'stress ball' NOT THAT you squeeze them, but to hold one gently in your hand and massage their little tummy while they relax and yawn...my God!!...who would not be relaxed by them themselves!!!!

Actually swimming is very bad for them. They get ear infections very easily and it stresses them out. The person doing that has no idea what they are doing.
Hedgehogs (usually) only squeak when they're nursing babies. Once they reach maturity (around 3-4 months old), they stop squeaking. They do it as a means of calling their mom when they're hungry or scared. Adult hedgehogs still make noises, but they tend to be more chirping noises than squeaking noises. The chirps mean a number of different things, but usually signals happiness or a mating male trying to search/impress a female. In very rare cases when they're getting threatened by another animal who wants to eat them, they'll scream one of the most frightening screams ever, but they never do that around humans because we're not a natural predator for them.
