I’ve enjoyed your videos on citrus in containers, they have helped me grow my 11 varieties to a stage to trial before planting 8 in ground. Early this past spring I started my fig journey with 25 varieties to do the same thing. I planned on keeping 12 but that number keeps on growing as I taste the so called “ average “ tasting figs. I’ve upped the number to 17 today after tasting my first LSU Scott’s black, I just knew it would be a cull but it was delicious. I won’t get to taste most of the fru fru figs like Black Madeira, I258, Col de Dame etc… until next year. Careful Scott… they are addictive.
Scott! It's about time you showed figs some love! I repotted a Mission fig I rooted from a cutting last Fall, and It has grown so much that I'm definitely thinking I may have to do some pruning this Fall. It is in a 10 gallon container, but has become top-heavy. What do you think - should I repot this Fall into a 25 gallon container, or should I prune? OR, should I allow it to root bound and treat as a semi-bonsai?
Hey, thanks! I'm just getting to know growing figs, but I would lean towards pruning and establishing roots. Many fruit trees need a couple of years to establish themselves prior to setting any fruit. Encouraging a balance in the branching structure early is what I would focus on. Hope that helps!
Hi! A nice lady gave me a fig plant in a pot that she had grafted from her tree a couple of months ago. Because it is newly planted, I didn't do anything to it except put it where it gets a lot of sun in my yard and water it, and it's growing very well. I'm wondering if I should take it in the house during the cold season or just keep it out where it is right now? I don't want it to die. I value your expertise. Thanks in advance!
Hello! I recommend that you reduce watering as the weather cools. Fig trees will drop their leaves and go dormant through the winer months, and you should protect them from hard freezes by bringing them indoors. Best wishes!
Hi Scott! I'm in GA zone 8b formerly 8a. This is my first year growing figs. I'm over wintering thèm inside my shed. How often should I water them? I also was gifted 9 fig cuttings that I'm growing inside my house. Hopefully, I will get the majority, if not all of them, to take root. The only cutting I've ever been successful at rooting is a lemon cutting.
Hey! When the figs drop their leaves and go dormant they won't need much water at all. I would check the soil for moisture needs, but they likely won't need any as they're not working (photosynthesizing). Excess moisture in the soil could lead to root rot.

Yours is the first video I've seen on figs, thanks! I'm very interested in growing a couple in pots, hadn't a clue where to start. I'll keep watching.
That's great news! I'm so excited to grow them, and they've done quite well since I planted them.
Thank you for the great videos, Scott! Your enthusiasm inspires me to continue to improve and try new things in my garden.
You can do it! ✨

How to make fig tree in the pot became fruiting. What kind of Fertilizer should i put in them
No fertilizer, only compost or worm castings. Young trees may not fruit reliably for the first few years as their roots develop.

Do brown Turkish like full sun or shade?
Morning sun or part sun and afternoon shade work well in my experience.
Thank you

Where did you get your fig trees from Scott?
Figbeard at www.figgyb.com, but I connected with him on Instagram @figbeard
You will never grow many figs on a tree in a pot. Just enough for a handful. In order to can fig preserves the tree must be in the ground.
