fungal acne - not typical acne!

  • Ever had FUNGAL acne?? I did, and it was challenging because I didn't realize what I was dealing with, and was trying to tackle it as I would normal acne (which it is not). Fungal acne is characterized by small bumps on the skin, in my case, on my forehead, and they are itchy! The itchiness can help you to differentiate it from regular acne. This type of acne is the result of your hair follicle becoming inflamed in the skin, resulting in an overgrowth of yeast, and fungal acne. Its medical term is called pityrosporum folliculitis. When in doubt, see your medical professional for a diagnosis!
    I ended up using a small amount of Nizoral (but apparently any anti-fungal shampoo will work), applied in a thin layer to my forehead, let it sit for 5 minutes, then wash away every other night for about 2 weeks to get rid of it. I saw immediate result with this unconventional approach!

    I had it once, but I've never had it since. I guess the yeast on my skin that causes it got out of control for some reason. (I was having a LOT of acne at the time too.) I tried using Head and Shoulders shampoo, but my face couldn't take it, so I switched to using Nizarol shampoo on my face every other day for a few weeks, and that cleared it up!

      Thanks so much for sharing your experience - in the pinned comment on this thread I share what worked for me as well !
      I spent a lot of time trying to treat it as acne, which was completely ineffective.

    I'm confused if i have fungal acne or closed comedones because i tried salicylic acid based products and even took accutane but it didn't help a bit. Also I think fungal acne is itchy but mine doesn't itch😭 but it looks like a mixture of fungal acne and closed comedones. Also during summer it becomes worse so maybe it could be fungal acne??

      When I had fungal acne - it started when I was in the Caribbean - so it seems the hot, humid weather was a contributing factor in my case. Mine was itchy as well too. Have you been to a medical professional for an opinion on it?

      @@ChristaEvelyn yeah I went to a dermatologist and he suggested me products for closed comedones and pimples. Even he told me to take accutane but nothing cured my bumps.😞

    I've used both clotrimazole cream and Nystop powder on clients with fungal acne. Both help and can prevent spreading until they can get into a dermatologist.

    I have cysts primarily on chin that become red and then form a white head the next day. Can this be identified as fungal or hormonal acne?

    • @ChristaEvelyn
      @ChristaEvelyn  5 місяців тому +1

      Normally fungal acne is itchy. Hormonal acne is typically found along the chin, but a medical professional would have to confirm 🤍
