Tempted to buy this. It's $1300 where I live. I suppose they don't sell official sampler bottles...

Thanks for doing these, I enjoy catching up on your reviews. I think we owe you a lot of gratitude, especially considering a) you are doing these for us non-German speaking viewers (in addition to the German ones) and b) you don't ever try to promote your business. Slàinte!

I was lucky enough to try a glass of this last week...however my verdict is that the Lagavulin 16 and Distillers Edition remains my favourite (much to the joy of my wallet). I say this as someone who has been exploring whisky for about a year, and is more biased towards whisky that is more smoky/peaty. As the two Luening's say, the 25 has a much more delicate smoke, as is the case with older ages. I would describe the taste as 'different' rather than 'better'. While I am truly awful at describing taste - me and my friend described it as having a sharper/brighter taste towards the back of the mouth that we hadn't experienced in a whisky before. The flavours were less 'rich' and 'full' and more bright, delicate, sparkly, and also sharper. Sorry for the whisky noob explanations but I don't know how else to put it! :D If you prefer smokier/peatier whisky then stick to the 16 like me and save yourself the money, take a friend/family/partner on holiday - enjoy youselves, and know that if you had a glass of this and the 16 in front of you, you'd pribably go for the 16 like me :)

You guys have the best job in the world I swear to god =) Would absolutely love to try this one. I always keep a bottle of the 16 year old in my cabinet. wonderful winter scotch. how do you guys get sample bottles? do you guys have a special agreement with some of these distilleries?

FoxHound Horst's wife and he started a German market only mail-order whisky retail shop, and presumably Benedikt works there too. they're probably one of the highest volume of Scotch whisky retailers in their country, and when you sell a lot, the people who supplied the products you're selling tend to treat you a bit here and there.

Ben needs to take a lesson from the old man in regards to settling down and chillazing instead of jumping around being fidgedy.

They should have bottled the entire batch in small sampling bottles. After two sips our perception of taste is somewhat reduced. So two sips of the 25 years, then a glass of 16 years and after that a good sip of the 8 years would keep one’s financial advisor happier 😃 Greetings from Denmark

Gentlemen, why do you spell your last names differently?

Ü is a german "Umlaut", and it can be substituted with the UE if you for example were to write a Mail to Horst here from the US for example, which obviously don't have these "special" letters on their keyboards. Now, why both versions are used alongside one another I can't answer, but maybe that helps. :)

Had a glass last night for the first time. 91$ for a half dram. Fabulous tasting and worth the price. Far superior to the 8-10-12 year expressions.
