I was just reviewing the insurance options for pumps and was like wow I need to watch reviews for these! Can’t wait to watch this fully once I get my kids down for a nap!
The medela pump in style was fantastic for me. It helped me pump a massive amount of milk for my exclusively bottle fed infant. I used it for 5 months and it still works. However I haven’t used the spectra so I cannot compare.
For my insurance blue cross blue shield the spectra gold is a $190 upgrade, the spectra s2 is free spectra s1 is $95 upgrade and madela mentioned in this video is free
I have the Medela Pump in Style from my insurance company and it shut down within the first week, maybe 2 weeks of me having it. The motor shuts off within a couple of SECONDS of turning it on. Medela even mentions the motor not working in the “problems” section of the instruction manual. I don’t recommend it.
I wish I would have looked further into it before getting my Medela through insurance. I haven’t tried it but you’re not the first to say that about the motor. This sucks. More than likely I’ll have to buy one out of pocket. 😢
it's worth mentioning that for the medela pump you need to replace the WHOLE connector if you need to change the membrane/valve which would turn me off from getting that pump right off the bat.
100% I feel like that is cruel of Medela. If people are choosing the economical insurance covered pump for financial reasons, only to learn later they need to spend $30/month to replace membranes…that’s so unethical!
Just had to buy my 6th set of connectors Just to get replacemenr membranes.. My insurance didn't cover ANY pump so I bought the Maxflow out of pocket and now have spent an additional $120 for those stupid membranes since I have to buy the entire connector set each time... I tried to push it by not replacing them for over 12 weeks but noticed a Major drop in suction and my output. I still had full breast after a 20 min pump session and even developed alot of nipple pain. I finally bit the bullet to buy 3 new sets of membranes/connectors which was $62 at Wal-Mart. Where as the Old Pump in Style you can buy a pack of 6 membranes for less than $4!!!!!
You mentioned there are several other pumps that are better than these two on the market. May I ask what you would recommend as the best breast pump available Is that meets all expectations excluding money as a factor? TIA :)
My insurance only covers so many BPs. Of the options I have I've narrowed it down to the Motif Luna (without battery) and Lansinoh Smartpump 3.0. I may end up EP and I need a strong suction to fully empty. Which one would you recommend? Also, I am almost certainly going to get a Spectra S1 or Synergy Gold out of pocket because I've heard they have the strongest suction on the market and the best name which one would you go with since I'll be paying OOP for it? Also does that influences your advice on the other bc I know the Luna parts are interchangeable with Spectra but if Lansinoh is better I'd still get it instead. I HAVE to decide soon, my baby is due in 2 weeks. TIA!!
I bought the Madela in Amazon and did not came with the ovals flexible, mine are white, hard and just plastic, idk why, I don't like it,and don't have the 2 bases for the plastic bottles.I'm thinking in returning the madera back. 😟☹️
For anyone watching in 2022: Through United Healthcare insurance Medela maxflow is covered at 100% Spectra S2 covered at 100% Spectra S1 covered partially $80 upgrade fee Spectra Synergy Gold covered partially $150-200 upgrade fee
I have a spectra S2 from my first son and my insurances now offers the Medela pump in style maxflow. I am curious what your thoughts are with the spectra S2 and the new Medela pump in style maxflow?
I would probably pick anything on that list besides the MaxFlow LOL. Especially if you enjoyed the S2 with your son, I would not recommend the new Pump In Style!
@@MommaAlia i don't know, i saw my insurence covered it as a free breast pump and i am not sure if I should go with the mptif portable, or the zomee z2. I was actually torn between the ameda mya and the motof portable.. than i saw your comparision and figure maybe the motif since it offers more.. now zomee is another option and i have no idea now 😅
I absolutely loved my spectra s2 with my first. It without fail it always relieved my clogged ducts. The gentle vibration was a game changer and I 100% believe that I was able to breastfeed for 2.5+ years because of it. Does this spectra have the same gentle vibration?
Pumpables Super Genie, Lansinoh SmartPump 2.0, Elvie Stride, and Motif Luna are all stand outs when I think about all the pumps I've tried and experienced!
So I’m torn between the spectra s2, lansinoh smart 2.0 and motif Luna double electric. First time, no idea which to choose!! Any advice will be helpful. Thanks
Between the Medela Max Flow & Laninoh which one do you like better? My insurance covers both and these are the two that I've narrowed my choices down to.
@@MommaAlia, thanks for the reply! I ended up just getting the Medela pump through my insurance, cause a few family members suggested it. If I don't like it I'll just buy the Laninoh out of pocket. At least the Laninoh is reasonably priced.
I hated the new Medela. I bought the old model out of pocket because I had already used my insurance. The suction on the max flow is awful, it just vibrates, doesn't suck.
Its comparable to the spectra s1/s2 and motif Luna, but there are not many videos on it. And your my girl with your detailed videos 😊 it has been out for a little while but newly introduced to the US. It is covered by my insurance, which is the only reason why I know of it. I have yet to pick a pump.

Yay! Hope you love it momma!
Hello @Hilly Hills, how was your experience with Spectra Gold?
I so much enjoy these videos!

Spectra S2 covered at 100%

Spectra Synergy Gold covered partially $150-200 upgrade fee
what about elvie stride and spectra synergy gold portable?
I totally agree with you max flow's technology doesn't make me feel extra spacial. I'm bot comfortable.

@@MommaAlia ok thank you for that!!
Thank you for the review! I've been binge watching your channel. Can you please share what your current everyday pump is?
Happy to help! Currently still using the Lansinoh SmartPump 2.0 as my daily pump (:
@@MommaAlia Thank you so much for the response. Last question! Do you use regular flanges or hands free cups?
Actually maxflow's stimulation mode automatically switch to expression after 1 minute.
Have you tried the zomee z2? I'm leaning towards a portable pump and I'm not sure if i should go with.
I haven’t! Is that on amazon?

That's awesome momma! Yes, the Synergy Gold felt almost identical in my opinion to the S2!
So let me ask you this, which one do you recommend? I had horrible experience with my last 1 the pump was weak and affected my supply. TIA
Spectra is amazing. Also my baby Buddha.
Which breast pumps would you recommend for an exclusive pumping?

So I’m torn between the spectra s2, lansinoh smart 2.0 and motif Luna double electric. First time, no idea which to choose!! Any advice will be helpful. Thanks
If you feel like your breasts are overly sensitive or can be, the Spectra S2! If not the Lansinoh SmartPump 2.0 is still my favorite!
What about the spectra synergy gold vs the lansinoh smart pump?
That would make an interesting comparison! Honestly, unpopular opinion and unless you know you prefer spectra over Lansinoh, I would pick Lansinoh!
Between the Medela Max Flow & Laninoh which one do you like better? My insurance covers both and these are the two that I've narrowed my choices down to.
Lansinoh! I would recommend almost any pump over the MaxFlow!
