I'm impressed at her age she speaks Italian! My nonna and her sisters never learned Italian because they only spoke dialect. I guess being a teacher she had to learn Italian.
@@catboy8927 Since Italy was divided a lot, there are tons of dialects and a standard italian. In school we study standard italian but in the family we spoke dialect. And it's really rare that elder people know " standard italian ", since there were wars so they likely dropped out of school. My own grandma went to work at 10 years old just finishing elementary school as a farmer so she spoke dialect.
@sisuphos in general they’re quite different both in vocabulary and grammatical structure. You may be able to understand people in a couple hour radius but outside of that it’s quite challenging. In some of the videos on this channel the elderly people will be speaking their dialects and you can tell it’s an Italian language but there’s a lot one wouldn’t understand if they weren’t from the area.
@sisuphos Some of the dialects vary from standard Italian only in the choice of words (like American and British English). The Sicilian "dialect" is essentially its own language, as are the "dialects" of Alto Adige (Sudtyroler...) and Piemonte. A Sicilian speaker and a hill farmer from the Alps would have a very tough time understanding each other. The gap is, I'm told, very nearly the gap between Spanish and Italian: different grammar, different words, faux amis etc. Sadly most of these dialects are dying out. the young are not interested in them and watch Italian and American shows so get no exposure. Don't you have dialects where you are from?
@sisuphos In Italy we have Standard Italian, which derives from Dante, Petrarca and Boccaccio's Florentine (so, spoken around 1300), and has always been used as a lingua franca all over the peninsula, by many intellectuals but also by other categories that travelled a lot. Thriughout all this time, though, the Romance languages brothers of Florentine stemming from Latin evolved and were widely spoken among the population. The Italian unification posed to problem to give Italians their national language, so basically making Italian widely spoken outside of the cultural elite. All of this means that they've been called dialects all these years to bring them down and raise Italian's status, but actually they are independent languages, like Spanish and Catalan and Galician, for example. So, if we spoke only our regional language, we'd have a hard time understanding each other since they're not dialects as Anglophones mean it (I'm thinking at Br vs Am English). About border areas, the situation is complicated because not only does the Italian population have its own regional language (Venetian, Friulian, Piedmontese, Lombard, Ligurian, Ladin), but also foreign languages (French, German, Slovenian) and some of their dialects (in Südtirol they speak a very different variant of German, same in Switzerland-bordering areas including Valle d'Aosta, and speaking of this and of the French border, in Italy there are remnants of Provençal and Occitan). We understand each other thanks to Italian, which is not learned as a foreugn language, but since birth. More or less all of the Italians are able to express themselves in Italian, obviously with some grammar variations (subjunctive, reflexive pronouns, transitivization of intransitive verbs...) or pronunciation adjustments depending on which regional language is spoken in their native area. But it's much less chaotic than one might think

The younger generations don't seem to understand we could have lost many cultures. God bless you all, looking forward to next friday.
hi Steve, yes Letizia was 20 when the war started. One of the things she said when she was measuring the flour out was 'add a little more for the child next door' ie make enough for so someone less fortunate than you can share in the meal. best wishes, Vicky
@@pastagrannies Vicky, question for you or the pastagrannies, sometimes i get pop-ins from relatives and i do not have time to make fresh pasta. One of my favorites is pappardelle which i use for a slightly creamy chix mushroom sauce, porcinis, baby bellas (or portabellas) and button moshrooms. Barilla is the most popular brand here but most stores do not stock pappardelle. Anyway, would it work if i cooked lasagna sheet pasta and cut them in appx. 3/4 inch wide ribbons ?, the pop-in relatives can be as staunch as the pastagrannies when it comes to what type/shape pasta goes with a particular sauce, ty for any info, God bless

Im from Spain and I've studied Italian for years, she's super easy to understand! María F Ah... bene ! Allora posso scrivere in italiano. 👋🙂

I absolutely love this channel! Seeing young people take an interest in learning from their elders makes my ❤ sing!!
100 anni!?!? Complimenti... Mizzica ne dimostra molti di meno. Sa fare tutto! ❤️
100 years old?! That's insane! She looks amazing, I feel extremely lucky to have seen her making pasta, loved this video, thanks for sharing it with us
She looks good for her age, she's got strength too, the whole table was moving 💪
She looks at least 25 years younger than her age. I'm inspired! Bless her.
100 years and she does the dish with ease. Wish to be like her one day!
A teacher through and through. Letizia is a treasure! Bless her, and may she be strong, joyful, and peaceful in her remaining years.
What a lady!Pure sunshine!❤
Vicky, what a great recipe video and lovely lady. I am 56 and i love these folks from the greatest generation ever as we call them in the u.s., i like to read a lot about history and i enjoy sitting down and listening to stories from folks like this lady who lived through it, over a pot or two of coffee. I love it, you learn so much. I had uncles who served in WWII, they were blessed to make it home, and i'm so glad that we went to europe to fight for folks just like this lovely lady. The younger generations don't seem to understand we could have lost many cultures. God bless you all, looking forward to next friday.
@Elishia Montenegro me also
hi Steve, yes Letizia was 20 when the war started. One of the things she said when she was measuring the flour out was 'add a little more for the child next door' ie make enough for so someone less fortunate than you can share in the meal. best wishes, Vicky
@@pastagrannies Vicky, those are the kind of stories i can sit and listen to all day, God bless
What a darling! Thank you Letizia. I hope you are well.
hi Cathy, we last checked at Easter and she was fine (and now 101!) best wishes, Vicky
She looks great for 100 years old, and the pasta looks beyond delicious!
Look at that STRENGTH in her hands... I am 67 and Do'nt have strength in MY hands like her...
And she is STILL PRETTY...
GOD Bless her for Many more... 💕💕
100 years. Wow I'm 43 and in bed with a bad back. She is amazing you can clearly see that she is a teacher when you listen to her, Love that she is now part of the amazing Pasta Grannies.

Aurora Sage Other grandmothers at her age may not even know what that thing is. 😊
Hello 👋
you can literally not get any more authentic than this. Thank you for archiving this before it's lost.
I cant believe shes 100. Shes beautiful and so lively!
So lovingly she teaches us this! Girl’s got more fire than I do at half her age. An inspiration!!
"don't ever follow in my footsteps!" may she live to 120. She looks not a day older than 80 :0 great video as always!
My exact thoughts. With those looks and how she's acting and walking for her being 100 shes so lasting till her 20s
So healthy and vibrant she is 💜 I couldn't believe her age of 100!!
Oh, Vicky, what a find. Such joy in making the simplest of food. May I be as lucky as Letizia.
hi Christopher I am always so grateful to the families willing to share their grandmothers. Letizia has remained very curious about life (she is on Facebook! paints, writes poems, wrote me a little essay about pasta) which is one of the many factors involved in healthy longevity. 😀 best wishes, Vicky
@@pastagrannies please, with which mame Is she in Facebook?
@@carolinarojano8356 letizia favuzza is her name. Writes beautiful poems.
I think if you hit 100 you should just automatically qualify for immortality. This lady needs protecting at all costs!
This is fucking heartwarming. She looks stunning although she's been on this planet for such a long time and has seen many crazy things I believe. Some ppl look older at a much younger age
Complimenti alla nonnina😘😘😘
How is this lovely lady doing?? She is a joy to watch! I just love her!
Incredible ..... watching and listening to this likeable Nonna .... who would ever believe that she is 100 years old ??!!
The way to explain things in a nice clear way and in a perfect Italian standard, where other Sicilian grandmothers at her age speak only in a tight Sicilian dialect. This Nonna is fabulous! It deserves a medal from the Italian State. ❤️👏👏👍
PS: If only the people here from all over the world could understand what beautiful and perfect Italian she speak !
Im from Spain and I've studied Italian for years, she's super easy to understand! I guess being a teacher when she was younger is the reason her Italian is so easy to follow :) I didn't know about the fact that many older people speak only in dialects, it's so interesting and telling on Italian culture :)
María F Ah... bene ! Allora posso scrivere in italiano.
Always a teacher. What a beautiful life.
Watching this woman work pasta is like watching Micheal Angelo paint. The reason she looks SO GOOD!!!! for one hundred is because of how hard she works the dough.God Bless her.
When mothers-in-law make pasta instead of drama, they end up living longer and looking good, like this woman.
OMG.. that’s spot on.. I’m facing a lot of drama right now.. but I will not fall into this vicious cycle and be a woman like this one. No drama only beauty.
May we all age like this inspiring woman! Hope she had a beautiful life
I really like this channel. In a world of fast-food, seeing this brings joy to the soul!
So lovely! We should all make a habit to befriend and keep up with our elders. They've so many stories to tell and wisdom to impart. Don't take them for granted!
Ive watched this one probably a half a dozen times, and I love seeing her proud, graceful facial expression everytime :)
Rest in peace my darling Latizia 💕, you'll be shining in the sky with your bellísima sonrisa 😊 💖
God bless! She doesn’t look anywhere near 100! 🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕
She is a darling, and an inspiration! (And a fantastic cook!!!) The love in her family is so authentic, also!
