I'm assuming that was a typo. They sold for like 1500. retailers bumping the price for covid still leaves it under 2500. Once you contextualize the issue, it was still worth 1500. It's been out for 7 years, and this has never come up before. It's not a serious issue, unless you just want to bash sig.
@@chrisclark6161 On GunBroker, I see them between $2200 and $2800. And yes, I do want to bash Sig. They routinely sell expensive products to the public without doing serious testing. They expect the consumer to pay to do their testing. We’ve seen it with the P365, 322, MCX, Cross and more. It’s ridiculous to pay 1000’s of dollars for their untested products.
@@roul3688 That would be retailers and private sales asking 2,800 due to covid/election panic. Mine was 1500, which is a fair price. Also, I completely understand wanting to bash sig for truely fucking up a lot of stuff. But this isn't a strong case for it. This is an example of being too bash happy. It's an issue you have to deliberatly find, and a very minor one at that. It's also not unique. Early ARs recommended draining the barrel after submersion, and it's standard practice in the military to eject the round and drain the barrel to this day.
@@chrisclark6161 Maybe it’s just me, but I would think that before selling a military grade product, likely initially designed for the military, they would’ve dunked their gun into some water during their testing... that is of course if they test beyond firing 3 rounds. Hi Tim! Thanks for letting us Sig MPX owners know. I just called Sig and referred to your video. They said NO to me about modifying my MPX.They said it was my "perceived problem" and that they couldn't do anything about it, unless I had a problem with the hydro-locking. I said its not a "perceived problem" if you (Sig) admitted there was a problem and made a modification. I'm very disappointed in Sig after being a loyal customer for 25 years and owning at least 6 Sig firearms. Poor customer relations!
Very informative video. Best guntuber on UA-cam. I've been trying to buy a MPX for over a year and can never find one in stock. Now they fetch ridiculous prices.

I have 2 MPX set up in SBR configurations. Absolutely love them both. I have not had issues with them, one has just over 2000 rounds through it. The other has about 500. I changed out the charge handles first thing, Cerakote of course. But besides that, they are stock 8 inch barreled units.

I put the CMMG trigger pack in it and that helped a lot. A handy firearm, Later from Texas.
@@youmasajp Shaddup! The whole "bore axis" thing is just an urban legend to validate one purchase over another. Have you actually ever shot a Sig? Be a man and learn how to manage recoil.
My MPX, which is about 5 years old, bobbed at first, with failures to feed. I smoothed the feed ramps and cleared that up. It ran almost flawlessly for a few years, then it stated short stroking with failures to eject. It got worse and worse until it totally became a single shot weapon.... Contacted Sig, they were aware and sent a re-designed gas plug. Substantially different from the original. Swapped it out and she's running great again. A buddy bought his MPX same time as mine and his developled the same issue. Again, swapped out the newly designed gas plug and it too, is running properly again.
I love Sig but damn they have so many issues compared to other guns. I have had several P320s and they have had a couple issues here and there. Had to send first one back to Sig because of a reset issue. My P320 RX has been flawless. My MPX had a broken firing pin and they sent me back an entirely new bolt. Just recently replaced the firing pin extractor and kept the o ring out and it seems to be running fine now (knock on wood) Surprisingly my P365 (again knock on wood) has run flawlessly. Now the Sig Cross firing on it's own. Come on Sig!!! When they get it right it's awesome but seems they very seldom get it right on the first try these days.
in a small sample my p365xl and sig 1911 45 acp have both functioned flawless, had a glock 43 and a glock 20 that did not run well reliably, but had a g17 and 43x that never had a hiccup. My CZ 75 P01 thanks to this channels recommendation has been perfect, would never sell it.
My gas block fell apart about 1 year ago. I sent the MPX back to SIG and they fixed it. I had it back within 8 days of shipping it out. I have an 8" barrel and SRD9 suppressor. The only other problem was I had to break in the magazines. I thoroughly enjoy shooting my MPX. Where are the conversion kits... 40S&W & 357SIG!!!
What a mess! I have my original MPX that never had any issues. I've always had good luck with the black follower mags in it. I keep the 1st gen mags with the 1gen gun and the 2nd gen mags with the 2nd gen gun. So far no mag issues.
When Tim fired the first few shots with the brace folded I thought he had caved to the ATF and that whole braced pistol letter fiasco...but then he unfolded the brace and fired the gun with it in place for the rest of the video... there was suddenly peace and harmony in the universe
That was done with purpose. When we filmed this that letter was going to post to the Federal Register and we had broken the news about the letting coming down.
"I wanted a little bit more area for my left hand" at 3:11 sounds like something a hostile BATFE could construe as "redesigning" to fire with two hands.
I have a new SIG Copperhead K and don't know which gas blocks cuts it has. The MAC tests are fun to watch and he provides a wealth of information to the shooting community. My combat days are hopefully long over and my gun used for home defense and local matches where braced pistols are allowed. Here in Oregon it does rain at matches on occasion, but I'm not going to run out and sell my Copperhead K. If it every hydro-locks, I will know what action to take.
I think the vast majority of shooters are in the same boat as you. Most will never fire their MPX outside when it's raining or snowing for any length of time. The guns will be taken to the range on nice days or shot indoors 99% of the time. However, in my case, if I know there is an issue I naturally want it fixed. It's a personality quirk. Happy New Year!
I'm glad to see Sig fixes an issue when it arises. That being said, Sig needs to learn to test their own stuff before it leaves the factory. It's disappointing to see nearly every modern Sig has issues.
Sig may have messed up not figuring this out in more depth of some of their firearms. I own several SIG products and never had any issues with them and also SIG is literally like the only company that is actually coming up with new designs/products than any other company out there. So in some sense there will be issues with new products they make, but that comes with making new things.
Makes since. From a fluid dynamics standpoint water likes to drain better out of a non symmetrical hole. Perfect circular holes, especially smaller ones, not so much. If it was just the round gas port hole on its own it would drain as long as it could flow out somewhere else. However if the only way out for that water is another small round hole it's easy for it to get held in due to surface tension.
I have a gen 1 never had an issue but the first one day to the range with 30 rounds in the mags. After a few mags through she was fine. Might still get the new upper some day.
I think I finally found out the reason for Sigg’s Unreliability issues: The people at sig. do not know the difference between 1 billion and 1 million. This was from the email that touted the millionth P365 but show the number “1,000,000,000th p365” displayed underneath picture for the article that reports on the millionth P365 born this year.
Great analysis! After pouring in the water, you immediately went horizontal and began shooting. I would love to know what would happen if you first tipped the barrel down for half a second to let some water drain out before firing.
Just watched the video at ua-cam.com/video/dmWOTBQdePo/v-deo.html and at about the 8:00 mark, he completely submerges the Galil Ace pistol, pulls it out of the water and immediately fires. After one shot, it malfunctions and he has to pull the charge handle back and it worked for subsequent shots. Maybe malfunctioning with water in it is not as unusual and worrisome as some would believe. Just expect to have to recharge the weapon.
Congrats Tim!! Do you wanted an indicator of channel's success?? You have an indicator of success!! I don't think that Sig take that care if you're not an important voice on the gun community.
Took apart my midnight black copperhead last night and I actually have the elongated port on my gas block. Oddly enough the build date was 8/2019 and I purchased it new September of 2020 🤔
HK should post this video on their channel and remind everyone that the MP5 is still selling. The gun is from the 1960s and works flawlessly.... there’s a reason it has stuck around for almost 60 years.
The peening on the inside of the receiver is a well known issue. I have the same in my MPX. Apparently, well known among PCC competition circles; I was made aware by a neighbor that has 2 MPXs for competition. I believe it has something to do with BCG materials and geometry. If you report it to Sig, they'll have you send it in and you'll end up with a new upper and new BCG components to fix. Only reason I haven't done mine yet is gun still shoots well and haven't been in the mood to be without the MPX for 2-3 weeks.
MAC you and your family have a Happy New Year and hope 2021 will be a better year for everyone especially law abiding citizens to keep all sorts of weapons
I noticed the price of this gun went down considerably to around the same as a PTR MP5 clone and the magazines have reduced in price as well comparable to MP5 mags. I guess Sig wised up and realized they were charging too much for the MPX and proprietary mags that people were still buying MP5 clones instead at cheaper prices.

Nice to see that they fixed the issue. But like you said and Sig seems notorious for this, is not giving the gun(s) a new nomenclature to designate a change. I suspect they do this to avoid the public seeing more easily how many flaws have been dealt with in various guns. I like Sig, but sometimes what they do annoys me, to say the least! I would of hoped they would offer some type of exchange like they did for the P320, for those that wanted the updated part.
So according to Sig, this is not the reason they lost the army smg contract. Does that mean that they fixed the hydrolock issue on their submitted gun, or was that not something that came up in the army's testing? Did they fix the issue for the trial but continue to sell flawed guns to the civilian market?
WARNING - read before you purchase. Test your ILWT barrel to ensure that ammo feeds correctly. Mine did not because of a high feedramp. ILWR is 0.060” compared to the OEM 0.035””. The higher feedramp resulted in bullets nose diving into the base of the feedramp and not onto the feedramp resulting in stoppage. Because I let the gun sit in my safe for a year and did not identify and report earlier, ILWT won’t work the issue and I am required to make Dremel modifications to correct the geometry of the feedramps to allow seamless feeding and function. I highly recommend identifying the issue early and brining it to ILWE’s attention or else you too will have to break out the Dremel.
Sig called you? Might wanna play the lottery! But seriously, good on them to admit the issue and send a gun to test. I wonder if Sig will offer a repair service/update service for the older models?
You should do a review on UARM III+ poly plates. They are cheap and lightweight. UARM has very limited internet presence you’d be the first big channel to review their armor

Sig: “we were aware of the issue”... but they sell these for $2500 anyways?
I’m not military but if I’m spending $1500 and up on what’s supposed to be a military grade product, I expect it to at least be as reliable as an AR or AK.
@@roul3688 well an AK would have died on the mud portion, and the MPX handled that flawlessly. So if you want to spend 1500 dollars on a gun that's as reliable as the AK, the MPX is a good choice
Thanks for the testing and follow-up Tim. I've got a GEN 1 MPX and it has run flawlessly. Chopped the barrel to 4.5" (before the K barrel was available to CIVs) and run suppressed with no issues. Not super concerned by this issue, but if SIG wants to update my gas block, I'll certainly accept!
Thank you for the follow up. Was my first sig and your video let me in the dark fields of issues they have had over the last couple of years. I’m no “operator” but prefer to have a solid gun when punching holes in targets, paper or wood.
You just know that every time a MAC video comes out, someone at SIG shits their pants
lol fingers crossed and heavy breathing
You know if I ever become a gun manufacturer EVERY single design will be sent to MAC before release. If anybody is gonna have issues out of a gun it'll be MAC.
Thanks for the investigation, fun to figure things out!
Sig does more product testing by way of consumer failure than Kel-Tec. Jesus. At least Kel-Tec is usually a quarter the price....
I refuse to carry any Keltec in my shop. Nothing but failures with them. I warn customers who order them too! Hahhaha

Especially trying to get one here in IL.
Thank you very much for your time and effort. Your ability to find and problem and your reputation as a reliable source of information are an asset to both the shooters and manufactures.
Thank you Tim for letting us know... you seem to do more troubleshooting for various companies than their own staff :)
Someone has to keep them honest. Because we're Patreon supported (formerly UA-cam supported until demonetization) we don't need money from the gun companies to keep our business going. That means we can show you the flaws we find and not gloss over them or completely omit them. Happy New Year!
@@Militaryarmschannel and that's exactly why I have been watching your vids for years now... (+ As a patriot I like that you carry a CZ75 :D)

I have 2 MPX set up in SBR configurations. Absolutely love them both. I have not had issues with them, one has just over 2000 rounds through it. The other has about 500. I changed out the charge handles first thing, Cerakote of course. But besides that, they are stock 8 inch barreled units.
MAC, the only youtube channel you don't want to see your firearm featured on... lol
😂 Happy New Year.
@@Militaryarmschannel Just pulled my Gen2 “K” down purchased outa Utah Jan/Feb 2020 and had the newest oblong port gas block, no Timney trigger, maybe I got lucky because it sounds like it was purchased not long after the one you guys had issues with 🤷🏻♂️
Well now I pretty much know that MY 2nd gen MPX will fail the water test since its build is significantly older than any of the three cited here. Happy New Year to you too, SIG.
Whomever at Sig that saw the first gauntlet test & decided to improve the weapon. You need a raise, the industry needs more people with the balls to fix their mistakes!
Glad they fixed it. Heavily considering one now.
I think this pushed me over the edge. Gonna start saving for one
Love me gen2 mpx, do not give a crap about submerged performance lol. This little gun kicks ass
Thanks for the info/video Enjoyed it. I bought my Sig MPX pistol Gen 1 in June 2015 and SBRd it soon after, No lame brace, A real stock and no legal hassle and it runs fine, I have 4 different 9mm cans and get a lot of blow back and as a left handed shooter it is no joy to shoot suppressed, Mine has the small gas block hole and I will leave it as is. I put the CMMG trigger pack in it and that helped a lot. A handy firearm, Later from Texas.
I was thinking about cutting the hole and you said at that moment not to.
And that's why you're in the top TEN gun channels. Well Done!
Thanks Ken. Happy New Year!
I’m always pleased to hear Sig fixes all of their crap they come up with.
thanks
If only they could listen to your videos as well and stop building skyscrapers on top of their slides. Low bore axis is not exactly a new thing.

Interesting. Wonder if they do a fix on this if a new barrel would come with a new gas plug too for preemptive?
I have an mpx PCC bought new in mid 2019 from PSA, it has the long slot in gas block. 4k rounds and not one issue.
Edit* spelling
It's always good to see someone enjoying themself
I think they are overwhelmed by their own success.
in a small sample my p365xl and sig 1911 45 acp have both functioned flawless, had a glock 43 and a glock 20 that did not run well reliably, but had a g17 and 43x that never had a hiccup.
@@Militaryarmschannel Oh, I see, sort of your way of raising your middle finger to ATF and their Draconian attempt at gun control.

Happy New Year!
Glad to see they corrected it.......
I guessed the fix before watching, that's no biggie, the big news is that SIG admitted a problem. :)
Happy New Year Tim and Jason.
Same to all viewers too!
My buddy has an old MPX I know you said not to, but that only makes me want to do it more, I’ll have to test it
I'm glad to see Sig fixes an issue when it arises.
This was a question I did not know I needed the answer to.
Great info because the mpx is what I carry swimming. 🦈
So they sent a hand picked weapon as a replacement, sure that’s nothing to be skeptical about
But it obviously has an internal part difference, that is now standard equipment.
They should have named it the Gremlin. Don't get it wet. What happens if you feed it after midnight 🤔
best comment
I have a gen 1 never had an issue but the first one day to the range with 30 rounds in the mags. After a few mags through she was fine. Might still get the new upper some day.
Sig is a nice brand... when they fix the issues months or even a year down the road.
Yet people think they are somehow better than glocks
Good on sig for being honest
I purchased my sig mpx with timney trigger in late April of 2020. It has the updated slit (not hole)
So is it fix bro? I bought mine around the same time
Great video Tim and thank you for always be transparent.

@@Militaryarmschannel Happy New Year to you and the families of MAC!
I think I finally found out the reason for Sigg’s Unreliability issues:
The people at sig. do not know the difference between 1 billion and 1 million. This was from the email that touted the millionth P365 but show the number “1,000,000,000th p365” displayed underneath picture for the article that reports on the millionth P365 born this year.
Thanks for the video. Maybe a video talking about all the changes in the MPX from the very first release to the latest release might be a good idea.
If it can break this is the channel that can get it done
Do the gauntlet with the new MPX. With the slot, doesn't it change the chance of debris clogging the larger gas hole?
Sig sauer was one of the most reputable gun in the early 80-90’s. I love them. Most sought after guns.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TIM AND YOUR FAMILY!!!! GREAT VIDEO TIM!!!!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Took apart my midnight black copperhead last night and I actually have the elongated port on my gas block. Oddly enough the build date was 8/2019 and I purchased it new September of 2020 🤔
Good info. Can’t wait for an updated Stribog video with the US bolt and new mags with black followers
I'll stick with my Scorpion EVO. Cool video. Always neat to see how things get fixed.
wow thanks for the video i had given up hope on SIG and MPX .
After filming Jason did some digging and discovered this is, yet again, a known issue. Thanks for the post and Happy New Year.
Where are you seeing them at a lower price today? Thanks

Shouldn’t SIG offer to replace or send out the new gas blocks free of charge upon request? Seems like the fair thing to do considering the price
Yep
Even if the do the "voluntary upgrade program" thing they did with the 320 it would be ok.
Why?
Nice to see that they fixed the issue. But like you said and Sig seems notorious for this, is not giving the gun(s) a new nomenclature to designate a change. I suspect they do this to avoid the public seeing more easily how many flaws have been dealt with in various guns. I like Sig, but sometimes what they do annoys me, to say the least! I would of hoped they would offer some type of exchange like they did for the P320, for those that wanted the updated part.
Outstanding video and presentation.
So according to Sig, this is not the reason they lost the army smg contract. Does that mean that they fixed the hydrolock issue on their submitted gun, or was that not something that came up in the army's testing? Did they fix the issue for the trial but continue to sell flawed guns to the civilian market?
Sig hasn't spoken about why their submission lost. All I know is that Sig assured me this wasn't the issue that cost them the contract.
The tests these manufacturers participate in are within NATO small arms testing protocols. There is accelerated rain test, not submersion.
Love my MPX... though now I need to check my gas block, just because.

great Job and update Tim. I dont even own the gun, but always love these videos. thx
Thank you Jimmy, and Happy New Year!
