We've heard Daron without Serj, and Serj without Daron. Clearly, SoAD's music is more Daron than Serj. Serj is the voice, but his musical sensibilities are more operatic to the point of extreme without Daron's more "rock" sensibilities. Personally, I prefer Daron's works outside of SoAD over Serj's solo works.
I would say this whole album shows how much a of a crucial component Daron is to system I completely understand why Serj as an artist wants to do his own thing but it just isnt my cup of tea darons wildness and attitude is what definitely attracted me to SOAD no doubt I found myself listening to scars way more than serj's solo stuff, I think serj and Daron together is just the most perfect combo their Harmonys go so perfect I really wish they could come to an agreement and make more music, and that's why I believe Im more of a fan or systems first 3 albums because Daron composed most of the music and then the hypnotize and mesmerize era I don't listen to as much because serj became more involved, even Daron said himself in a recent interview he just doesn't believe serj doesn't have love for metal music like he does, so they switched from playing in C to C# so serj could have a more melodic tone in his voice, and I believe that's both a mixture from serj wanting to expand his vocal style and from not wanting to strain his voice so much from screaming a lot of vocals, I prefer soad from the self titled to steal this album era than mesmerize and hypnotize because it was so much more heavier and serj's vocals were just so powerful, but you can tell a lot in their live performances that back then it was more of putting on a physical show and now its more about giving a better musical performance than a stage show, it takes a lot out of you to just scream all the time, and defintely damages your voice, I've noticed it with other bands like Metallica like James Hatfield got more melodic and softer with his voice as time went on,
TL;DR
System was a great band but even if they got back together they wouldn't be as great as they would be during their early years because age and wanting your music to stay fresh but also having to make an agreement with multiple people in a band is no easy task even when you have a ton of fans who want you to keep doing what your doing you just want to be able to do your own thing

Yes, their music is deep and has multiple levels, they sound different than everything else out there. I just miss when they were all together. But I understand, being an artist myself, the need to explore themselves in different ways. Can't help but miss SOAD, though.
