American war correspondent Russell Bentley, from Texas(USA), disappeared in Donetsk on April 12, 2024.
The Telegram channel of TV channel 360 reports that the journalist and his wife came to the executive committee of the Petrovsky district of Donetsk on business. At that moment, shelling began from Ukraine. Bentley decided to help the wounded, after which no one saw him.
His death was confirmed on April 19.
Bentley, 64, known by his call sign “Texas,” has lived in the Donetsk People’s Republic since 2014 and participated in the militia. He has repeatedly declared his support for Russia and its actions in the Donbass. Bentley called Donetsk his home and planned to “live the rest of his life here,”
Previously, Russell Bentley said that ordinary people in the West are increasingly disapproving of the actions of their leaders who are provoking a war with Russia. In addition, in 2022, Bentley announced that his foundation had raised $100,000 to help residents of Donbass who suffered from shelling by the Ukrainian military.

He did join the Donbass resistance to fight against the neo-nazi invaders but due to his advanced age, after a few years he was reassigned to do non-combat support, like journalism and helping organize and deliver humanitarian aid. He was not killed in any battle but he was specifically ASSASSINATED by Ukrainian (possibly with the help of CIA) secret service while in a non-combat civilian area.

According to Russel Bentley's wife AND his Pro Russian militia, Russel was arrested by Russian officers from the 5th Armored. Those Russians raped him and beat him to death. After they killed him in such a horrifying way the Russians beheaded him. There was a policy where Foreign military are men would be granted citizenship of they served 1 or more years. The US has the same program.. There are many people seeking citizenship in Russia, but it is not that easy to get it unlike in the US, just sneak in over the border and be given twice the average social security benefit, free flights to any city they want to go to, $2200 a month, housing allowance, almost all are military age young men and not typical families as in the past. If they go to NYC that are given debit cards preloaded with $10,000. No one even knows who these people are since the do not bring passports or ID

The story is unclear stating that he had been killed, is there confirmation of that, a body ? And why did his wife say Russian troops had picked him up, are Ukrainians wearing Russian uniforms mixing around in Donetsk. I assume there will be more information forthcoming. RIP

He was 63 years old and he liked to film and create propaganda pieces for his telegram and other Russian media sources considering his age and being too old to fight, I guess the Buryatia people who are a very small ethnic Russian minority didn't trust him due to his American accent and thought he was a spy.

According to information that appeared on social networks after his death, Bentley was detained by men in military uniform (presumably soldiers of the 5th Tank Brigade from Buryatia) while filming the aftermath of a Ukrainian bomb attack on a military unit, being mistaken for a spy, after which he was tortured and killed.
He is a known person in Donetsk and has powerful friends and contacts there. This was likely a hit carried out by the SBU and has nothing to do with DPR or Russian soldiers. That is just nonsense.

Only some people born on Swains Island or American Samoa and a small number of other Pacific Islands are US "nationals." There is a huge difference in US and international law between a "national" and a "citizen." US nationals, for example, can't vote is presidential elections but don't require a visa to enter the US either. There are very few US "nationals" still alive, all elderly Pacific Islanders.
