Thanks sooo much for this tutorial! After I retired, I picked up a PT job working for a mini-storage, and this Chateau 870 is the lock we sell. As a rank beginner at picking, these discs frustrate me greatly - so much so, I usually use a grinder to remove them. Your insights will help me learn a less invasive way to remove these. It's a totally different situation when the lock is ON the door. There is no room for the turning tool and you cannot get leverage to pick because the door is taking up half of the pick-space. Try doing this while on a door and please put a video out.

Nice work on the open! However, if you are trying to go for a more realistic pick I would have held it a 180° flipped over the other way because naturally the lock will be secured with the key way upside down
I agree. I've also seen them at 90 degrees it all depends on how it's made and where it's at on the door. That does have a better leeway than the Brinks that are mostly sold at office where you rent units out. Like the R70 that has a M1 keyway.
My 9 yr old picked it in about 5 min with a pick made from a windshield wiper. Hey may have watched your video. I made the pics because he locked both sets of keys in my truck lol. We got them out to.
If you want a more challenging disc lock to pick, try the Harbor Freight or Brinks 70 mm. They have heavy spring cores that fight the tension wrench and dampen any feedback.
Hi, I agree with the HLP about a realistic situation. Most people pick them opposite direction on video. They are hard to pick on a locker. I had one that would not pick unless it was upside down, it was designed that way. I can not remember what brand it was now. Too long ago. Nice picking and video. 👍👍👍👍🧡

Think about buying some single long/steep hooks in .015 or .018 and modifying the hook size for your needs. Most sites have single stainless picks between 2.00-4.00 , and it's a bit cheaper than buying full sets and you can make exactly what you need . I usually order a few every time I buy a new set to save on shipping.

Nice picking! :D All those disc padlocks are made in two halves ... the good ones are really strong and can't easily be pried apart (but the cheap ones can).
I lost the storage key to a similar lock C870. If I bought another similar C870 lock, will the keys open my storage lock?. Can I make a bump key for my lock C870 as the key is lost for my storage unit and I am not there in the country.
The c970 say now anti pick. Just saying. Yours I see says just rust free and anti cut. Do this to a c970, then you can brag. Picking a lock that doesn't say anti pick isn't as impressive as the c970.

I'm having issues with mine. Not paying $40 for them to cut my lock. Bout to try a dermal and cut it or a drill bit and chew it up

Depends on your skill level. Even then simple locks can become challenging as it depends on how the lock is pinned.
A thief does not have the time, skill and convenience to hold the lock as you are. Had storage units for over 30 years. Never had this problem.

You're the "Wish" version of the lock picking lawyer. He opens this lock in seconds.
Those locks have spool pins in them. They'll give you a false set...
