    ** PS: I NEED YOUR HELP **
My goal is to better the lives of #onemilliondogs in my lifetime. It is clearly impossible for me to do this on a one to one basis. I have seen that with around every thousand views on my videos, I get a comment or email thanking me and letting me know the video has helped. So working on that basis, I have to make videos on how to address every problem
behaviour and accumulate ONE billion views in order to help 1,000,000 dogs.
You can help me reach #onemilliondogs by (1) subscribing to my channel and (2) give this video a thumbs up - so UA-cam suggests this video to more dog owners and we can help 1,000,000 dogs all over the world. Thank you so much!
    ** THANK YOU **

      1. How to keep the dogs in a calm state of mind when they are already on the walk, and faced with distractions. (I get the logic about only taking them out when they are calm, but it means that I have to sacrifice my own walks for them, so I want them to behave on MY walk) And, 2. (if you don't mind two suggestions) how to keep the dogs from behaving like an anchor. I try to implement all the principles of calmness, of walking back a bit to show them who is in control, but I have a very well-muscled 50 kg dog (basically, like a smallish bodybuilder) who simply refuses to move when he sees anything that distracts him. I joke that it is like dragging an anchor around, but my hand hurts like crazy, and I do not find it amusing in the least.

Can you show how to teach your dog to gently take a treat from your hand?

We would love to be able to cut our dos's nails. She is petrified and runs and hides at the sight of the clippers. i don't know why this is as she has never been hurt with clippers. She may have to be sedated to get them done, but i don't want that to be a long term solution. Do you have any ideas please?

I have always used a (folding) ramp for my Rottweiler which means I am confident that he can avoid injuries jumping in or out. He's a big heavy boy - perhaps I'm being over cautious but it takes just seconds. Works for us. (I can keep it on the back seat when the dog is in the boot area as I carry no other passengers).

It is truly astounding how quickly I have seen changes in the behaviour of my circa 50 kg greyhound Dio, who went absolutely insane (like Dante) at everything that moved. This morning he was completely normal when we passed a group of deer, and when he saw a small dog, although he pulled and played at anchor as always, he didn't bark or jump. So thank you ever so much for the wonderful tips in your videos, they have made a world of difference for me already.

Great video as usual! I would like to teach my dog to pick up my car keys if I drop them. Sometimes I have back pain and can't bend easily. I wonder what baby steps that training would take and where to start? Thanks 😊.

That's great Nigel. My Border Collie Puppy (4 months) is frightened of my car, I have to carry her into it, any tips? Once she is in the car in her crate, she is fine, travels well.

It's likely overtime she will grow out of her fear as it doesn't sound lit is serious or like she is being pushed too far. If she was you would have to break it down into stages. In and out before she panics.

@@nigelreed Great news my pup Bonnie, is now used to the car. I had the cage/crate too near the door, I moved it further away. She prefers to jump into the car, then make her own way to the cage/crate. Sorted 😃

That's great! Thank you! Our dog is afraid of going by car, so she doesn't want to even aproach it. When she is seeing the door from the car opened she starts trembling and wants to run, escape and hide. Could you make a video on how to help a dog with car phobia, please? In the past we tried to make her jump in the car using pure real meat reward and she was loving to jump in the car, she was like flying inside. Then, after she was confident with that, little by little we started to move the car. Since we moved 5 minutes, maybe not even that she doesn't wants to jump in again and behaves like i said before. Poor of her once we were preparing for a trip and when she saw us putting the luggage in the car without thinking to take her she run at the neighbours and spying us from

Thank you! I can't wait to see the videos. Meanwhile we started to put her in the back of the car, like you did with Dante and she didn't seem so stressed but we still have to convince her that it's ok and make her get in by her will.

have you addressed how to get a dogs used to car journeys if they are scared or highly anxious whilst driving? my dog is generally calm, dog guardian principles are mostly adhered to and she’s good on leach etc. but she will not stop crying when we’re driving. she’s standard dachshund, so cant see out of the window. is that her issue?

    • @nigelreed
      @nigelreed  3 роки тому

I haven't made a video on this as it is a lengthy video. If you're taking her past the point she is crying you have gone too far. It's unlikely the issue is from not being able to see out the window.. But it's worth testing.

Fausto jumps in the car everywhere, apart from when we're in a parking garage. He cowers and gets scared. We can play down there and he's ok with it. our trainer said to pick him up before he even gets stressed but then he won't learn. Any tips on that?

If your dog retrieves them chuck a tennis ball in the boot and let him bring the ball back. Do this for a few days and then get them to wait, then shut the door, start the engine etc.
