Well done for getting through all the training and tests, you're right to take your time on the 500 before looking for something more powerful imo. Keep building your skills, I've been riding for 47 years and it never stops. Maybe do some track based courses or off road skills to bolster the experience you've gained, so much fun too. I stumbled on your channel as my wife rides a cbr500r & I'm thinking of downsizing in the future, I've ridden her bike on & off since 2014 and always enjoy it even though its way down on power compared to what I'm used to. I look forward to seeing you try out a few bigger bikes this year, don't miss trying the cbr650r btw, enjoy.

Cheers for the comment, yeah I plan to do my first track day this year on the 500, which should be a good experience. The only offloading I've done is on sike gravel in my friends tenere 700, feels like a different skill set to road for sure. What do you ride just now? The 500 is a great, reliable machine with good fuel economy, so I can fault it.

@@parallelfinn right now I'm on a BMW F800R & before that a S1000R which was an absolute blast but I tended to do crazy speeds too often just chasing the thrills. For some reason though the CBR500R just ticks a lot of boxes for me and a different kind of fun wringing out the performance when needed. Good idea doing a track day on your existing bike as it'll give you something to compare against possible future bikes. Have fun & keep us posted.

100% best comment on the Internet regarding bikes. I've been on a cbr250 for 6 months. Next will be a 500 for a year then 600 maximum. There's no time limit on cc and there's even less of one on your life. Ride how you feel brother

I agree that the cost is absolutely insane now, especially since it should be an affordable way to gain independance. My full A licence cost me around £1,550 in Norfolk, although I had to do a re-test.

It's insane honestly it puts a lot of potential bikers off I think, which is a shame.

A2 to A licence is a much bigger step up than A1 to A2. 125cc to 400 or 500cc is nothing compared to 500cc to 650cc. First time I got on a 650 and gave the throttle a good twist and the brakes a good pull, I shat myself and thought WTF IS THIS?
TBH I spent too long on a 125 and got too used to it. I’d recommend to folk to go for the full licence after achieving decent mastery of the controls and putting some muscle memory in the tank.
The bigger and heavier bike is actually much more of a bonus or help than a hindrance or something to be intimidated by. You feel much more stable and planted on the road. 125s with a person on them are top heavy and unstable in comparison.
No arguments from me re the ridiculous costs of getting a bike licence in the UK. I agree with the progression approach, but the cost is out of order.

Stability is a major factor to getting a big bike, way less highway wobbles. Tbh I think the mt07 just struggled with my size and weight so it didn't feel too much different 🤣
Yeah a lot of habits you pick up on a 125 that you don't need on a bigger big, shifting through the gears too much cab be one of them (always have to be in the right gear on a 125cc, drop a gear to go up a hill etc 😅)

@@parallelfinn I’m not a wee guy myself, 6’2” and 13.5 stones, and went from 125cc to 650 via DAS. Riding a 125 as a bigger dude gets you into habits that you pick up to offset your own size. Because you’re the heaviest thing in the arrangement. Then going straight onto a heavier 650, (CB650R was what I did A licence training and tests on), you can get rid of those “coping” habits and ride the bigger bike properly.
After just 1 DAS lesson I was so pissed off at having to ride my 125 home 😡😁
