I can't believe it's already 25 years I have been listening to those guys. their music has always been so much support in my life, during my school years, my wedding, the loss of my father, the birt of my childs. My favourite song on this record. This album is honestly faultless and in my opinion, it's DT best album in years. It's easily my most played album this year. I've listened to it an unhealthy amount of times since its release. For me it's my album pick of the year, with Shadow of Intent - Melancholy coming in at a close second.
You had me intrigued about this Shadow of Intent band so I went and checked them out. I just listened to the song Malediction. While I'm usually not a fan of this kind of metal, I gotta say I was blown away, almost quite literally because it was so intense! I'll definitely check the album out. Thanks for the reccomendation 😃
I cant explain how much I F*cking love DreamTheater...and John Petrucci is the best guitarist of any band ever and he inspired me to pick up the guitar and start playing.
This is my favorite song on the album. "Promises made, crying in vain, all empty, never accepting the blame, and not letting go of the shame. A river of tears, as months turned to years, all wasted on someone not willing to change, now only a shadow remains." Every time I hear that line I tear up, it's so powerful. This song speaks of two people who faced hardships and did what they could to escape, but I feel like to can apply to almost any situation of recovery from hard times. Thank you, Dream Theater, for continuing to inspire.
In a dark and lonely corner, of a time-worn dockside inn Sits a local barstool warrior, talking to his gin Tracing past decisions, he motions for a shot Is he doomed to be a man this world forgot? Just a prisoner of the monster on his back Call it bad luck, call it fate Call it stuck here the rest of my days Serves me right, what went wrong And where do I belong? In the glow of flashing lights, on the shoulder of the road Clutching at the bruises on her skin She tries to signal danger with anguish in her eyes Will he see the world of pain she's in? Or is it too late? Was it bad luck, was it fate Or a past that she couldn't escape? It's not right, something's wrong Just where do I belong? Promises made, crying in vain All empty, never accepting the blame And not letting go of the shame A river of tears, as months turned to years All wasted on someone not willing to change Now only a shadow remains No one can save you And there's no one to see It has been written You will become all you think, all you feel, all you dream Now I'm cutting the anchor away And I won't look back I'm starting a new life today Now I see where I belong
Those are... Not the lyrics. First line is "In a dark and lonely corner, of a time-worn dockside inn", and I'm pretty sure line 3 is "Tracing past decisions, he motions for a shot" rather than "treating". Then in the second verse, it's "Clutching at the bruises on her skin". But aside from that, it's right - nice job if it's a by-ear transcription. I got mine from the official lyrics in the special edition though.
@@josearalat I mean, IMO these lyrics are great, so that's just personal preferences. One of the best songs they've written in the past 10 years with Master Mike Mangini... The song breathes well within the nuances and the piano composition within the bridge is a wonderful touch. The mix is well balanced... Great DT Song! I love the way it feels, and the imagery presented in the video.
One of the best solos. Ever. That quiet part with the piano and guitar before it and the solo says more than any pop song or trap lyricist could ever say, without need for words. This song is truly awesome, I love it. Thanks Dream Theater

I don't really know what to add here as most fans have already beautifully articulated my thoughts not just about this track, but the album on a whole. I received the Deluxe Box Set just a day after it's release (February 23rd). I have played the Blu-ray at least a dozen times as I play Vinyl more often. I simply love the animation of each and every track as it epitomizes the visual experience as much as listening. My favorite animation off this album is "At Wit's End" and the most SPOOKY experience I had, was with "Room 147". Reminds me of 'The Grudge' woman with long ass hair (goosebumps). Dream Theater are my favorite band since 1999 when I first heard them. 'Distance Over Time' is by far one of the BEST releases in their discography in a long time. My favorite track off this album is "S2N", I totally dig that tune as well as the Bonus BANGER called "Viper King" (great animation too).
