I would just like to say Thank you,Sir, after following your video, for more years than I would like to mention, and you too probably, my technique is unrecognizable from when I started ,yes it did take time, but then.....IT WORKED!!
Doesn’t the fulcrum has to be somewhere in the middle of the stick in order to get maximum rebound? In that case the butt of the stick will not be inside the palm of your hands if your hands are small. Which is more important? The butt being inside your palm or the fulcrum?
Fulcrum position is determined by the balance point of the forces on the stick. The forces are a measure of how loud you are playing. The fulcrum point for a loud volume gig can and probably will be different from a soft volume gig.
I somehow developed this naturally in my right hand, and now that I've worked on my left hand I developed the index finger fulcrum. My open/close strokes seem visually different between right and left hand. In ny right hand the stick's path isn't a straight line but a bit wobbly and the finger stroke isn't as loud as it should be. Any tips on how I should proceed practising?
Practice in front of a mirror, or mirrors. Note all the angles and positions in both hands as you play. Positions and movements should be symmetrical. The mirror should help you see your issue(s). Take a few lessons with me if you are still having problems.
Gordy, is there any hope for someone who's been playing from the fulcrum for more than forty years? I have never been able to attain any speed without pain. My Doc says my thumbs basal joints are worn out now. I need to learn how to grip as you have demonstrated but the sticks slide out of my hands. I want to keep playing till I kick the bucket. Thanks.
Hi Carlos, Sorry to hear of your situation. There is a trick that helped me get thru a tour I had to do when I had a form of tedonitis called "trigger finger" on my LH ring finger. Even though that's not your problem, this solution might just work for your issue too. It would be easier to show you in a Skype lesson rather than trying to explain it with a page full of words. Please contact me at my website - GK-Music.com and we can get a time set up so I can show you..
I find these videos very helpful but also the correct fundamentals of grips and techniques
Really one of the best explanation ever seen in a video. Thanks a lot
