LCD Soundsystem are one of the best bands around. And that's a fact.
“Why would anyone go to a studio?? This is awesome!”
-James, sitting in a room of a mansion with $200k of equipment
You are in a studio
I think that was the joke
I mean when you get an advance from the label on a second record you could probably afford to rent a mansion out for recording.
James is actually an idiot but talented
I think james just brought the studio into the mansion which is nicer than just going to a studio. Definitely an upgrade. I could see kanye doing this
a 909 on a grand piano may be the classiest thing I've ever seen
this is happening is definitely one of the best albums of the 2010's
all time
the best
6:20 damn that baby playing polyrhythms
I wish this was longer. Love this album. Didn't know it was recorder at the same place as RHCP BSSM.
Please do not ever delete this video. It is very important and means so much to me.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Holy Wood, De-Loused in the Comatorium, and 99 Problems were all recorded in that big ol house
this is entirely what making music is about it’s so fun and pure
Red Hot Chili Peppers recorded Blood Sugar Sex Magic in the same mansion
I went to a huge party there that Rick Rubin threw back in 2001, it was fire!
@@damionchrist oMG 😳 that would have been amazing!
I was wondering if it was the same place? I've seen that Funky Monks film so many times it was instantly recognizable to me... didn't radiohead and STP record here as well??
Atoms for Peace recorded Amok there also, which Ofc had Flea in.
Was just about to say the same thing! Anthony Kiedis said about this house: “A couple things about this house, the first place the Beatles took LSD. The 4 Beatles were staying here they took LSD, and it’s the first place that Jimi Hendrix had sex with David Frost, and David frost is still seeing a proctologist to this day, I guess Jimi was rather large.”
It's so cool to be able to see how one of my fav albums of all time was made
I was just telling another fellow friend/music nerd that the magic word for UA-cam searches is "making of"
Who remembers dancing themselves clean in college?
All these people saying they're here from Ashton Irwin, where all the real Mark Lombard fans at?
ayooooo
0:02 Somebody’s Calling Me
3:40 One Touch
4:16 All I Want
7:11 You Wanted a Hit
9:21 Dance Yrself Clean

Really well done. Thanks for putting the time in. Enjoyed it thoroughly
This house feels like the album that was produced
And...?
@@lookbovine bro what
@@lookbovine Hahahahaha i love how unnecessarily confrontational youtube comments are
@@lookbovine I’m not sure if that’s intentional irony or not but that’s really funny
That dog was just the dog version of James
This is one of the best videos i've ever seen.
It’s crazy hearing how different dance yrslf clean was when he was working it out. Totally different song but the parts are all there
Such awesome tunes came out of that house ❤️
This is one of my favorite videos on the internet
I watched this at the time and never saw it again until today thanks for this
thank you for making this. It's honestly so inspiring to see one of my favorite artists making music in his own home, gives me ideas for my own home studio.
man, i'm so glad that even though James used Rick Rubin's mansion studio for recording the album, Rubin himself was never involved in the process of the album. Rubin would've mastered that album way too fuckin loud if he got his hands on it during that time.
Imagine Dance Yrself Clean without its wild dynamics. It would have to be a totally, fundamentally different song. LCD records are so great at producing per the needs of individual songs, instead of dictating to their sounds in service of that kind of bullshit mastering philosophy.
Totally agree. Rubins a great producer to me whos made a ton of great stuff, but this album sounds fantastic the way it is.
Watching this feels like watching the Empire State Building be built. Iconic.
I’m losing my edge.........well, I lost it actually......
But I still do LCD at age 61!
Personally my favourite album ever, right next to Sound of Silver. Great video
I have no idea who Ashton is. I'm here because I like LCD soundsystem so UA-cam algorithm recommend this lol
Ikr whos Ashton
@@gabrielnavarro749 I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not but I legitimately don't know who Ashton is lol.
Same who is Ashton?
@@GoldenPlates he's in five seconds of summer apparently
I dunno who this fukwad aston is that people r talking about, But i do know that i don’t like him/her/it.
James Murphy is the coolest cat in the universe
And he’s 50. But he looks younger
I’ll never forget during their set in Atlanta a couple of years ago, he just abruptly in the middle of Daft Punk is Playing at my house stops and yells into the crowd “All of you know who Daft Punk is because of me!!” and i just said “well alright sis” 😂
Doesn't seem like his band mates enjoy recording with him and he does most things by himself cos he's such a control freak. Super cool 🙄
@@pmdave05 creative minds usually do like to have a sense of control. Those working alongside him seem to have the utmost of respect for him and that does say a lot about him as a musician.
@@jamihillman2801 did you watch a different video?
hell yeah never seen this thanks for posting
Long story short, came here bc of Ashton. And yeah, this is really intruiging.

One of my absolute favourite videos on the internet. This comment has been edited for the greater good...
Until now :/ I think someone saw your comment and wanted to be a contrarian ahaha
Thanks for the love, all credit to LCD Soundsystem ofc
I miss those In n Out prices... @14:07...
Ashton sent me here and here i am without any hesitation
What treasure!
100k views baby!
11:40 "Go away." 😂😂😂
What is this video sourced from?
I'm a big fan of these kinds of behind the scenes of the making ofs.
They're just on their UA-cam channel, about 6 or 7 small edited bts videos, I just stitched them together
Love it
Dude what is that guitar tone in all i want
anyone know what those giant main speakers are?
Oh my God guys wombolombo brought me here
This is fucking cool!! Thanks ashton irwin for sharing this knowledge. 👌👌
pov: ur here bc ashton tweeted a link to this
what are those cards they are using around 8:15?
Oblique Strategies by Brian Eno and Peter Schmidt, they're a pack of cards made to inspire creativity. There's also an app version of it but I'm not sure if it's official
@@MarkLombardwombolombo thanks!
Simpler, better times. Like, subtract Emo from 2000-2014, and it was a golden era. Kid A to...maybe Future Islands on Letterman, or TVOTR’s Seeds album. The whole Williamsburg scene; people being both highly educated but also freely creative; Vampire weekend, Dirty pros, the National, the Walkman. Wes Anderson, Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman,Michele Gondry, etc. Blasting Daft Punk(RIP), Justice, LCD, Animal Collective, etc at house parties.
I’m not even a “nostalgia” person, but damn those times were rich!
Woke up one day and it was like...”Pitbull’s New Years Eve Miami!”
Who the f*ck is Pitbull?!
You didn’t unironically include any mid-80s deep cut bootleg mariachi or pronounce any words like a foreigner even though you’re white (a la ‘Ibiza’)..
Unfortunately I’m going have to deduct -420 hipster points and sentence you to listen to whatever The Offspring’s last album was exclusively on CD or Adam Sandler standup specials on cassette.
Get your shit together, fam
Dude you're right
I don't know who this Ashton person is, I just like lcd soundsystem
Funky Monks for a new generation?
The making of it should be done by now. When will that be? Is this that then or will it have been that but it’s like this? Do you see my confusion here?
i think you're confusing yourself idk wtf you just said tbh
😻
hello I don't know what this is but it's amazing I'm because Asthon sent me
At 2:15...WHAT IS THAT TUNE/SONG?? Is it George Winston from his Windham Hills days? Kinda driving me crazy 🤪.
I couldn't find anything for it on Shazam, I reckon it's just a recording of someone playing the piano in the mansion
What's the song at 6:28 ?
All I want
Here from marks story 😳
Miss the old Days when DFA used to be a thing
I'm here because of john klett. And James
Does anyone know what song is playing 6:53 when there's two people in the kitchen. The lyrics sound like "so make your pies right, gonna eat it in squares, and we can..... ... ..." please help me if you can. Thanks

Languor is underrated.
is that the same place where the chili peppers and atoms for peace used to rehearsal?
yes
11:39 me too almost everyone
Anyone know what this song is at 6:43 ?
“All I Want”
@@AngelMartinez-rx8yt Oh damn thanks.
"Heroes" by Bowie
@@manualex16 Haha I meant the song played on the glock after but yeah I see the riff from All I Want is basically a sample from "Heroes".
Jesus what is the name of that beautiful song that he plays on key board at 5:10 itsa real short clip ! What song is that ?
it's called All I Want, my favourite LCD Soundsystem song personally. That synth line carries on for like half the song and it's beautiful and melodic and I highly recommend you check it out
He’s using the Eno cards I forget what their called. I feel like this album is his attempt at making and ode to Brian Eno. This is his ‘Here Come The Warm Jets’. A lot of the synth and guitar tones definitely sound like that record to me.
Oblique Strategy cards
people say they are here because of Ashton Irwin, but im here because of "What song are you listening to"
The guy from parks and recreation is in this video wtf
who is ashton
feels like im watching a brian wilson documentary
modular synth club
Of course he uses oblique strategies

I feel like Mac miller and James Murphy could have made some amazing music
ok y’all, so i figured out what this is about, lcd soundsystem is a band and this is like a behind the album for an album they released like 10 years ago called “this is happening”. ashton probably is a fan of them and likes the album so he found the behind the scenes process of making it interesting
Wow you are a genius
Who is ashton

4:20 writing God only knows. Nice.
Being rich people looks tight
Not rich. It's called a record advance and if you don't end up with a finished sellable product after you're gonna end up drowning in debt.
