In this video I install new speakers to the door cards. The driver's side window glass needs replacing and the door cards are finally returned to the car.
I don't want to be 'that guy' but I'd definitely recommend taking the door cards back off and re-fitting the vapour barrier properly with fresh butyl all around especially at the bottom.. otherwise it will inevitably leak and undo all your hard work on the carpets (and rust out your floor again) especially if you're keeping it outside. Cheap preventative job. Keep going though.. lots of love for an LSB! - oh and silicone spray makes re-fitting rubber seals a lot easier and less chance of damaging or pinching them.
Hi. Thanks for your comment and the tips. Much appreciated. I didn’t think about the silicone spray, so I’ll definitely do that next time. In the interest of not making the videos too long & boring, I actually cut of the scenes where I peeled away the old butyl and then resealed it. I do wish I had a garage to keep it in though. 😭 Door card has been on and off 5 or 6 times now. 😂
@@CaptainMilkybeardTheMermaidwhy not just buy a house with a garage 🙄 why are you working from a flat to say the least it ain’t very attractive and won’t be long before the neighbours report you for working outside like this as your probably aware this will go against your tenancy rules or the rules of the council if you look up your terms and conditions on the leasehold , tenancy whatever it is. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone reports you 👀
Might have good or bad news. If your car does not have a factory amp (located in the trunk behind the panel on the left) you will need to fit one to get the speakers to sound good. Also if you are going to replace the head unit, try the XTRONS 12GB. I have one in my E46 and it has never let me down😉
i love matts videos and im not putting him down in any way nor do i mean to sound negative but does he actually fix these cars up completely or just make it look like it in the videos? love the uploads keep up the hard work

This one is a special case where it was just very bad to begin with. It was also resprayed and I guess it was reassembled by those guys. Then it passed through many hands before it got to me. Hopefully I can get it back to the state an E46 M3 should be in.
How do the speakers sound? Any improvement? I am sort of in the same situation, I have already had the amp output channels upgraded / fixed as I lost sound from my front speakers. Now all good but sound quality is still generally below par.
Yeah I did get the figment right and it was only a little bit of sound deadening that had to come out. Speakers sound amazing. Car sounds much better on the road now too.
What happened with the rear speakers? Did you fit them in the parcel shelf or the rear door cards? I find heavier aftermarket speakers seem to lead to unavoidable parcel shelf rattle on these cars so am considering fitting speakers in the rear door cards now instead

Sound is actually a lot better now. Definitely worth the money and effort.

Big tweeters in the door cards and smaller after market speakers in parcel shelf. No rattles after all of the recovering of all the bits.
Would have been funny to see the airbag go off 😂
