Upper Holy Jim Trail Conditions July 14 2024

Upper Holy Jim descends Main Divide south of Santiago Peak back to Main Divide back to Main Divide for about 800 vertical feet. Its a fantastic, remote singletrack with technical switchbacks that are hard to make and chunky large rocks that demand you quickly choose between lurching over or dodging to the side. The trail is in pretty rough shape at the moment with bushes obscuring the path and the trail bed, large loose rocks floating all over the place, and blown out switch backs. Also, there is a huge down tree in the middle of the trail which requires a dismount to move beyond. Keep an eye out for poodle dog bush which comes at the finish; be very careful not to rub up against this toxic plant. Despite these few minor issues, the trail is a must-do, better than The Luge.
