    Great information and, prescient for home recording since everyone and their pet has access to Pultec emulations. This particular one is very faithful to the hardware. Thanks for posting these helpful tutorials with “key point” boxes; it’s why Audio Masterclass is a winner.

    Comparing the "pultec trick" with only boosting low-end in A/B manner was very good. I finally understood the "pultec trick", which is mainly altering the Q value.

    Wow! I thought my hearing was bad but after paying very close attention I could hear the differences when you select the IN. I'm only at the 4:49 timeline marker of your video and look forward to hearing the rest.

    Great choice of subject and nice clear methodical coverage of it, as well as great choice of the Ruletec. I think it would be educational to describe in detail what you hearing, liking, and disliking about the different settings, especially when you're finding that sweet spot that you prefer. Might have also been worthwhile to mention the upper frequencies in that original bass track as it was quite buzzy at times, even if to say that what might appear to be a problem when soloed, might not be a problem in the mix. Also, comparing your treatment of the bass soloed to how it would work in the mix would obviously be relevant under most circumstances.

    • @AudioMasterclass
      @AudioMasterclass  5 років тому

      Thank you for your comment. Regarding the sweet spot, I prefer not to consider that my preference is better than anyone else's so when I settle on a setting it's because I think it has the best balance between too little effect and too much. Others may differ. You're correct that this recording of bass is rather buzzy. This can be a problem depending on context, but my feeling here is that since the player (not me!) is very competent then they probably like this kind of sound. DM

    Nice video! Would be nice to see you do this on other instruments as well like snare, piano,acoustic guitar, etc. Also would be nice if you also do a tutorial on the other settings or controls on the EQ as well. I hope that is not asking to much : ) Thank you very much. It's good learning from a Master. You could not have made it more plainer. You're the best!!!

    • @AudioMasterclass
      @AudioMasterclass  Рік тому +1

      Comparing levels can be done by ear, by ear with a visual aid such as a VU meter, LUFS, or peak. Each has its pros and cons depending on what you want to find out. For finishing touches in mixing however, it's always the ear that's most important. DM

    Very nice instructional videos on pultec EQs. Take note for those of us on a budget that you can get a pretty good free version in the analog obsession RARE plugin. It has been updated recently and is very good. It even has internal 4x oversampling (like many of the better paid plugins). I think it's released under the bedroom producers blog banner too.

    I have several versions of plugins that sound good but different from each other and different from the pultec hardware. Close enough though. The phase rotation in the low end I believe is way more important that the actual boost/cut. The best emulation in my arsenal are the waves Puigtech and the Softube Tubetech. The Puigtech also add a nice saturation.

    • @AudioMasterclass
      @AudioMasterclass  5 років тому

      This was recorded by an Audio Masterclass student. It's the same original clip all the way through. We don't know the setup but one of the interesting features is the fret noise. Normally this is an irritation but in this case it really adds to the character of the sound.

    • @brettuhl7818

      The manual will help. The Pultec is simple but it isn't entirely intuitive. If Warm's manual doesn't help, then another plug-in developer with a Pultec emulation may have a better one. DM

      If you're listening through laptop speakers then you won't hear much. Studio monitors or studio grade headphones are recommended. If you still can't hear any differences, then perhaps you should find someone who can hear the differences and can point them out to you while you listen.
