  • Follow me as I take a weekend to install a French Drain and Roof Runoff system on my new construction home. I will bring you along as I go thru every step of the 4-day process, from picking up material from French Drain Man, digging the trenches, layout of the system and why I decided on each component, to finishing and cleaning up the yard.
    This episode covers pickup of material, description of the system, laying out the system in my yard and digging the trenches.

      Described and popularized by Henry F. French, hence the name, look him up on Wikipedia.

      “Despite their name, French drains aren't actually from France. In fact, they're named for a Massachusetts judge and farmer, Henry French, who first wrote about them in 1859. The idea was simple: Get water away from the places it tends to collect by carving out an easy path for it.”

    You better find some Terra Cotta artefacts with all that digging. Anny is awesome.

    In my town, the building inspectors are basically undercover ninjas -- spot an amateur project, requiring permits, from three towns over, and it's game over. Mess with city planning, like ninja star-throwing tornadoes. Try sneaking a sewer tap without a permit? Boom! Instant 'oopsie-daisy-matilda' with fines zipping around quicker than you can mutter 'code violation.' Maybe your inspectors are more chill, but over here, it’s like living in an action movie! I love driving around in my truck with instant popcorn at these sites.

      I talked it over with the company who does installations in the city and they said it was not necessary. Hope you won’t need that popcorn

      @Iamkayaky Місяць тому +1

      @@JaYoeNation not a mixture, usually limestone or similar, no dirt ie looks washed. Supports tile, still permits water to leach. The stone helps keep roots and dirt from plugging the holes

    • @clark7117
      @clark7117 Місяць тому

      @@Iamkayaky Usually limestone, sandstone, or river rock size 3/4" to 1" and the tile must be covered and base, then sand on top. The municipality ought to have requirements clearly posted in the planning dept for any trenching and other construction at city hall. In my city these projects are forbidden, you must hire a licensed contractor, for good reason.
