  • Drain a Flat Yard With No Slope. It's Easier Than You Think.
    When you have a flat yard no slope a lot of times you just want to start with a 3 in pipe. Start with a 3-in pipe and start digging shallow (maybe five six inches) Then as you start to get deeper and create slope you take a connector like this this is a reducer it reduces you from the 4 in pipe down to the 3 in pipe this is how we get slope in a flat yard.

    Man, you guys just didn’t get it. It creates slope because you can dig much more shallow to start your trench when you use the smaller pipe. As you continue digging and getting deeper, you can change to the larger diameter pipe

      There’s no context of the volume or if any solids “could” be present when in use.

      I figured out what the problem is. It's his communication. He is simply not saying what he actually means. This is why English teachers in high school tried to teach you the language.
      What he is trying to convey is that 4 inch is the regular pipe size he uses for these jobs. But if the slope is zero, starting with a smaller pipe size, affords you an extra inch or two as the slope is dug out
      But because he failed or barely passed 10th grade English, he accidentally made it sound like the increase in pipe diameter is what gains the slope.
      Simple failure to properly communicate in his native language. And instead of realizing it's his own wording that is causing the problem, he resorts to insulting his viewers. Which will eventually hurt his channel as he loses viewers and people like me mark his channel "do not recommend."

      There’s not as much water at the beginning so you can put a smaller pipe and less digging but the farther you go it is collecting more water so it needs to be bigger and since your digging a slope you can now have room to lay the bigger pipe. So beginning to end, you dug a lot less dirt.

  • @tommeyer2612
    @tommeyer2612 4 місяці тому +3

    You're really adding water volume downstream. A given amount of water will fill the 3" pipe to a certain level, but when that same amount of water enters a 4" pipe it can spread out due to the larger diameter and this creates a little fall in the depth of the water. Think of a 3 inch pipe connected to a 10 foot pipe. A gallon of water will be at a certain height in the 3 inch pipe and when that gallon enters a 10 foot pipe there will be little to no height. Therefore it falls in to the larger pipe. It's not really slope, it's pulling the water into the larger pipe because the water can spread out.

      @djaa7 4 місяці тому +2

      @user-tk2mf5lt9b yes. The pipe increases in diameter. We all know that without him saying it. Even those outside the field can simply see it.
      But that doesn't explain how to lay in the pipe nor his claim that it increases the slope. The person is clearly asking if he places the drop in the reducer up or down. Which is not explained.
      At the end of the day, 10 years of professional plumbing tells me the person making this video doesn't understand what he's talking about. Increasing diameter does not in any way shape nor form, increase the drop angle in order to slope the pipe more. In fact, it makes it more difficult and actually reduces slope as the larger pipe diameter instantly removes approximately 1-1/2" from said slope into a short drop that could have been achieved with street 22 elbows, keep the same pipe diameter.
      What is happening here, is this guy is installing pipe with weep holes. Increasing the diameter allows the pipe to hold more water, giving the appearance that it's draining more. Only because it allows more "sump" area to give time for the water to drain into the floor substrate. But he doesn't understand the concept and incorrectly explained it as gaining slope. Simple math and eyes tell you that is absurd.

    Is the 4" pipe laid in the trench the same way he's holding it in the video, or flipped 180 degrees with the extended portion pointing down below the resting grade in the rock bed? The only things I can think of that would move the water out are that 2" drop with a 180 degree flip from how he's holding it, or the wider 6" cavity created by the larger pipe holding more water horizontally.

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  Місяць тому

      It can go either way. There's no right or wrong, but the way I'm holding it is how we transition into a 4-inch pipe. As the trench gets deeper, we keep our trench bottom flat with slope.

    That's great except it doesn't make sense, bud. The invert stays the same. The only thing you're doing is making the top Taller. So the bottom doesn't change with the size of the pipe. Think about it Einstein.

    If you're starting with a 3-in pipe shallow. Why are you increasing in the pipe size to a 4-inch pipe??
    So you're adding the reducer connection and increasing the pipe size...?!? LMBO!!

  • @hectorrodriguez2686

    Not good. When you change the diameter to alarger one, you lose depth and slow the velocity of the water. If the water is not clear, you will have sediment precipitation. Any plumber or engineer should know that.

    • @FRENCHDRAINMAN
      @FRENCHDRAINMAN  4 місяці тому

      You have failed to understand anything. You must be the new guy. In your defense, a short just allows you a fraction of the time a full-length video allows. Our fully encapsulated french drains that are 2 pipes wide do NOT have sediment flowing through them. We also use a special non woven Geo textile filter fabric that's double punched. ✌️

    This makes no sense to me. Why would increasing the pipe size gain slope? You have a starting point and an end point. Changing the size of the pipe does not change the angle in any way.
    All you are doing is increasing the empty volume of the pipe. Thus, it fits more water. And I'll assume you have weeping holes and this doesn't run solid all the way to a curve, correct? If that is the case, you may know how to install pipe, but are whole heartedly lost on concept and why things work the way they do.

      @@FRENCHDRAINMAN now explain to a 10 year professional plumber with his own company why you claim increasing the pipe size gains more slope when it actually reduces it.

      @@FRENCHDRAINMAN Maybe learn to speak English and produce better videos.
      I believe you wanted to say you use 4 inch pipe but if it's too flat, you start off with 3 inch and then grow it to your normal size pipe.
      But because you lack intelligence and planning, you accidentally made it sound like the increase of pipe size is what gains your slope.
      It's pretty hilarious that you can't even explain things in a video who's entire purpose is explaining things. And when people point out you said something incredible wrong and stupid, you have the audacity to act like everyone else is the dumb incorrect ones. Bahahaha
