Nice to see even pros like Martin make some errors with radios but because of his professionalism it just flowed right by. Thanks for sharing your trip. I’m using the videos for retraining my flying experience.
The only thing I ever think about when I see Alcatraz Island is the terrible sunburn I got when taking a harbor tour around the island. I was miserable for a week after that. I advise heavy sunscreen even if it is slightly overcast. Nice tour martin. Thanks
Hi Tim, there is really no magic to flying to those larger airports, especially if you can fly an approach speed of 150 knots or more. And if not, these days where traffic volumes at large airports are (unfortunately) lower, it shouldn't be a big issue either. Make sure you have studied the taxi diagram well, because that's where the real challenge is - on the ground. Don't be shy to ask for progressive taxi. - Martin
Very Cool Martin, Thx! I’ve flown the Bay Tour often but not SFO and will likely not ever. I started my PPL training 2 months after this video at age 57. Found you through your low IFR as that’s where my head is now after getting IFR rating 😉
+Brian McGee Yes - most controllers are friendly and helpful, but I think the ones involved in my SFO flight were particularly nice. We are fortunate to have a great ATC system in the US.
I toured this area on a Harley-Davidson with many more turns than you did, but I didn't need to get permission. LOL. No idea that flying in a crowded airspace would be so complex. Thanks for another great video.
Yes, the controllers were great - both coming into SFO and leaving from there. With very few exceptions, my experience with ATC in the US has been great.
Awesome videos M. Pauley. Do you fly for a living? If UA-cam gave out awards I'm certain you would get several. lol. Great visuals, audio (communications), text add ons, etc. Flying and editing of videos both professional quality . Well appreciated. Entertaining and a low hour pilot like myself can learn a thing or 2 from them. Thanks, Keep em coming.
She sure did. I told her before take-off to please, please stay awake for at least a half hour to enjoy this spectacular and unique view - but the powers of teenage lifestyle were stronger :-) - Martin
+ThePudgie123 I have the landing in Burbank recorded, but it's nowhere near as interesting as SFO or some of the other places I've done videos for. Let me think about it...
That's right. You'll hear me ask for the "Bay Tour" at 4:07 in the video. It sounded a lot more complicated because I had an IFR flight plan on file that eventually I needed to pick up, to Burbank. The Clearance controller was very helpful here!
Hi Martin. I am enjoying watching all your videos. They are very nicely done. I am just about to buy a Bonanza f33a 1992. The current owner flies the plane no more than 30 hrs per year. Do you think this low time of use would be a problem for the engine and overall maintenance of the plane? Thank you
Thanks for the kind words. 30 hours per year isn't much time for an airplane, but if that's a short flight, say, every other week throughout the year, than I believe it still serves the purpose of exercising the engine. If it was just a lot of flying for a one-a-year vacation trip, followed by 50 weeks of sitting in the hangar, I'd be more concerned. I assume you did a pre-buy inspection with an independent mechanic? They would know what to look at, based on the plane's history. Best of luck with the purchase! - Martin
Dear Martin, thank you for your quick response. I appreciate it. No pre buy inspection yet due to le lockdown we have in Spain, but I hope to complete the purchase in late June. Thanks again for you help.
Hi Paolo, I agree it is nice to see the whole cockpit at times. I guess I need more cameras! :-) Take a look at the two videos I have in Atlanta (arrival / departure); there I have a camera in the back on a tripod that shows views of the whole cockpit every now and then.
That, that old ATIS system is a bit antiquated. My other complaint with the typical large-airport ATIS is it is much too verbose and long. A lot of what's on there isn't really all that important, like the thousands of taxiway closures (Tower determines your taxi route anyway) or "birds in the vicinity of the airport" (when are those NOT around?). So less could be more here. Best, Martin
My introduction flight to flying was a $99 bay tour flight. I was hooked and went on to get my ppl. It is a beautiful flight.
I can see that. Nothing I can show people here in Iowa gets close to the bay tour! 😁

Everyone makes mistakes, Bob - myself included, for sure. What matters is that we acknowledge it, recover from it, and learn from it.

Awesome views! I probably need to expand my bucket list after watching your videos! Great job and vielen Dank! :-)

Another wonderful video
Thanks, Dusty.

Martin, am enjoying your videos. You make flights into airports such as SFO look so easy!

Martin, thank you for sharing your videos with us!
great video! Love it when GA and ATC jell and work perfectly!!

Thanks again for sharing your videos!!!
Thanks for a very nice video! Im never been to USA and not to Sanfra. but now it seams like I have!
You are welcome, Björn. San Francisco and Northern California are very nice, maybe you can visit one day.
Best regards, Martin
Great video, nice to see the VFR departure and then picking up the IFR clearance.

Best controllers ever! Nice and willing to help. Great video

I only hate how long it take for the next one, Great video thank you for sharing..

Martin. Looks like your passenger slept thru the entire Bay tour. Nice video

Really liked SFO thanks, but that floppy headset mic would make me cray 😜
Totally agree, buy a good mic,
Emirates 380 Heavy; caution, wake turbulence Beech Bonanza prior to your arrival....
If I was that close with pilot's discretion, I'd be very tempted to fly under the Golden Gate Bridge.
Yes, I would be tempted, too. But I'd leave it at that. :-)
Martin Pauly if it was legal I'd do it in a second
Fun and enlightening as always...we'll be looking forward to the Burbank add-on? :-)
+ThePudgie123 I have the landing in Burbank recorded, but it's nowhere near as interesting as SFO or some of the other places I've done videos for. Let me think about it...
Bay Approach offer a "Bay Sight Seeing Tour". Just ask Departure Control for the 'Bay Tour" from any of the SF Bay Area airports.
That's right. You'll hear me ask for the "Bay Tour" at 4:07 in the video. It sounded a lot more complicated because I had an IFR flight plan on file that eventually I needed to pick up, to Burbank. The Clearance controller was very helpful here!
Great video, is your Bonanza TURBOCHARGED?
Thanks, Hameed. I don't have a turbocharger; my A36 just has a normally-aspirated IO-520.

thanks for the video and tour..btw what do you do for living? so much time for fun traveling :)
Ha! Yes, over five years I've taken the Bonanza to many places. Using no more vacation days that most American companies give to their employees. :-)
great videos why you dont show your cockpit from time to time.thanks

I hope the passenger in the back seat will one day be able to see what they missed.
+David McCowan Yes, she was asleep pretty much the whole time. Teenagers... ;-)
+Martin Pauly Have a daughter that does the same thing. :)
Even though your were flying a single engine King Air 😎
They seriously need to change the voice of the ATIS guy.

Nice vid. Your daughter must not like flying.
Thanks. She enjoys getting to the destination, not so much the actual flying part.
- Martin
That girl is busy. She is on her game. Good ol marine layer comes in tries to ruins your view.
