Today, 01/21/22 this song is so bittersweet. Seeing Meat Loaf in his many roles and singing his songs come to mind as I listen, I can't help but imagine this song being a duet Meat Loaf is singing with his fans.
I still can't believe it such sad news of the passing of this awesome entertainer R.I.P. Meatloaf you will be sadly missed but your songs will live on forever and as I listen to them I will always remember you.:(
ABSOLUTELY. I Didn't know he and Jim Steinman existed until later that week after Meat died. I've heard Two Out of Three Ain't Bad before and Surf's Up in highschool but I wasn't interested in 70s music then so I didn't bother to look up the singer and writer. I actually just assumed it was John Mellencamp. Boy am I sad I didn't look up the singer and writer now
When I was younger I fell deeply in love with someone, a musician like me, and he once told me he had a dream where we performed this on stage before a crowd, and that we'd one day perform this on stage together, and now he's gone. It's not easy to sing a song like this when the other half isn't there to sing their part. This one will forever break my heart. Goodbye for now, until I can steele my heart and sing along again
As hard as this may be to hear, my suggestion is, don't Steele your heart from the pain. Feel it. Take that burning pain and put it into your voice. Itll take what you sing to a level you'd never believe you can reach on your own. From someone who really does understand
Meatloaf Singer, songwriter, and entertainer And he showed this by putting 100% fire and passion into his songs, just because he's gone, he will never be forgotten, and we must all keep his passion and fire burning Rip Sir
I only just found out that Meat Loaf sang this too. I adore Celine's version but this is phenomenal (and a plus, it's in my vocal range so I can sing along much better)
There was a person who once asked me why do I listen to all those sad songs, my answer at that moment was, it does not sounds sad to me. Now, almost any song brings those incredible short and deep flesh cutting moments bac all the times... Can't forget. It is all comming back to me every time.
I can relate! Always loved the songs of great emotions ... they made me happy even if I felt sad with the release that came from singing along ... but all these years on, every bloody song is nostalgic, even the ones that did my head in lol ... but it's the emotional ones now cutting me down by my feels ... but after a good set, I feel fulfilled at least temporarily 😄
BEST VERSION EVA!!! I have always liked Meatloaf, this song is just so amazing in his voice and music arrangement!!! This one and Deadringer for love are my favs!!!!!
While Celine Dion's rendition was beautiful, I think the song makes so much more sense and is so much more powerful as a trade-off duet. And Meatloaf is still one of the most powerfully moving male vocalists ever.
@@chjf6866 Doesn't matter, this song is better as a duet and any Jim Steinman song sounds better sung by Meat Loaf. Celine is a world class singer but there's more than technique (and Meat Loaf's technique is great).
@@bobbytables464 im not saying his technique isn't. Celine dion is a superior singer and makes me feel the emotion of this song . I like the meatloaf version but prefer the raw power of celines vocals. Probably the best she has sounded on any song
Actually Meatloaf wanted it on Bat Out of Hell 1, but Jim Steinman, who wrote it, said it was more of a girl song. Pandora Box's recorded it first, but Celine Dion made it famous. Then Meatloaf did it on his third album. Bat Out of Hell 3.
Pandora's Box one is pretty good + it's the original. Maybe if Meatloaf had been able to do this a decade or so earlier then it would've sounded better. Celine absolutely slays this, no doubt. Loaf sounds like he's singing mediocre karaoke in this version, imho.
Actually what happened was, Meatloaf wanted to record this back in the 80's, but the song's writer, Jim Steinman, refused to give it to him because he believed it was a "woman's song." It wasn't until 2006 that Steinman finally let Meatloaf have a go at it.
Thank you SO MUCH for the backstory. I didn't know. Too bad Meatloaf couldn't have recorded it first. It is exactly the kind of "ballad song" that suits him perfectly!
Vintage Meatloaf / Steinman. Celine Dion's version cannot begin to hold a candle nor even the fading burnout of a cocktail bar match to Meatloaf's inspiring voice which offered songs that shaped our emotions entire and made us feel the form of passion personified. We are truly deprived of a brilliant artist, caring soul and a voice of the ages upon his passing. Michael: we shall see you in the darkness beyond.
I always thought that he should have been the original artist for this song. 26, listened to him when I was but a tot. I actually really love his voice.
Rhonda Webber my favorite meatloaf song is i will do anything for love but I guess I’ll add this to one of my top songs along with my said favorite and I’d lie for you
Trying to block emotions I discovered this band with bat out of hell and loved it I clicked on the next one and it showed this one and it put me back where I was before
This song was written for Meatloaf. He didn't want to put it on Bat Out Of Hell II So he gave this song to Celine Dion. He regretted that epic mistake & put it on his 3rd album. Research, people.... google that :)
Lisa Askam the same kinda thing happened to him with Total Eclipse of the heart , it was being written for him but somehow Bonnie Taylor got it. He needs to stop doing that , he can sing anything.
@@josephdockemeyer6782 it's called a Cameo message you purchase a video message as a gift. Meatloaf was really into it and the message was 45 minutes or so long. Super nice guy.
His music hits different now that he's gone. Rest in peace Meatloaf.
Can anyone deny Meatloaf's genious ? He was staggeringly talented and brilliant.

It was actually wrote for him but Steinman felt it better from a females perspective

Valid point, but this was never supposed to be a sad song. It's about the rekindling of a romance, which is positive.
The video is heartbreaking though.

This is the best version. Hands down.
Definitely the best version. Hands down.
Great duet the female vocal is fantastic.
I love Meatloaf so much . This song is so wonderful with his voice!
Jim Steinman is in a class by himself. Meat Loaf or Celie Dion, the song is incredible.
just too bad he didnt give meatloaf a chance at first....
So is Todd Rundgren.
While Celine Dion's rendition was beautiful, I think the song makes so much more sense and is so much more powerful as a trade-off duet. And Meatloaf is still one of the most powerfully moving male vocalists ever.

Meat loaf was right, this song is better as a duet

I just cannot imagine Meatloaf using the girl from Paradise by the Dashboard to duet this song with him. She was just a bit too rough edged. :)
Best version ever. Hands down.
singing with meatloaf is an honour for every girl or woman.
Best version of the song! 👍

Meatloaf and Celine Dion singing this together...that would be EPIC

Truly. Leather and lace.
Celine Dion and Meatloaf should do this together...their combined versions would be like heaven and hell mixing.
Meatloaf should do that Bonnie Tyler song.
+Xanatos which song?
Alysha Maines
Total Eclipse of the Heart. Apparently he tried to get it done back in the day but Jim Steinman gave it to Bonnie instead.
