The cactus family (scientific name: Cactaceae) are usually dicotyledonous and flowering succulents. The family Cactaceae has between 25 and 220 genera, depending on the source (90 most common), of which there are between 1,500 and 1,800 species. The cactus is known to be native to the Americas, especially in desert regions. There are also some types of epiphytes in tropical forests, those that grow on the branches of trees, because there rain falls quickly to the ground, so it is often dry there. The cactus has spines and stems to store water in reserve.
Cactus is almost a plant in the Americas, with the sole exception of Rhipsalis baccifera, which grows mainly in the tropics, mainly in Africa, Madagascar and Sri Lanka, as well as in tropical America. This species is thought to have colonized continents other than the Americas only recently (in the last few thousand years), possibly carried by migratory birds in the form of indigestible seeds. Many other species of succulents have adapted to new habitats in different parts of the world due to the introduction of humans.
Cactus is a succulent plant that has many forms of growth: into a large tree, into a bush or close to the ground. Most succulents grow and develop from the soil, but there are also many species that are parasitic on other plants to thrive. Most cacti, with the exception of the subfamily Pereskioideae (see side image), have significantly reduced leaves. The petals are evenly distributed and concentric, the flowers are mostly hermaphrodites, blooming in both morning and evening depending on the species. The shape varies from funnel-shaped to bell-shaped and to round-flat, ranging in size from 0.2 to 15-30 cm. Most have sepals (5-50 or more), varying from the outer to the inner, from bracts[3] to petals. The number of stamens is very large, from 50 to 1,500 (rarely less). Nearly all succulents have a bitter taste, sometimes with a cloudy resin inside. A cactus contains about 3,000 seeds, each 0.4-12mm long.

On average, a cactus lives a very long time, up to 300 years, and some species live only 25 years. The Saguaro cactus (Carnegiea gigantea) can grow up to 15m tall (the record is 17m67, while it's only 10cm in the first 10 years). cushion", Echinocactus grusonii) is the smallest in the Canary Islands with a height of 2m50 and a diameter of 1m, producing flowers every 6 years.
