I was 11 years old when I first heard this in 1994, and forever it changed my outlook on music. When people talk about great British music, this should be one of the first tracks they mention. It's completely timeless. Nothing about it sounds dated.
This one will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up in a village in rural Southern Germany, this tune blew me right away when i stumbled into a D&B heavy club called Douala in the next bigger city. Barely old enough to even make it into the club. An older friend driving us around, and this tune playing in a tunnely, crowded club. Never felt so excited about music ever again. The memory of this monumental voice and the love for jungle never faded ever since. One way or another, since this day, the song has always been with me. Thank you Diane and RIP.
Goldie is Serious + he has a World of Experience working with many Artist. I'm born and raised in the States and grew up listening to Baltimore Club Music and I always loved Deep/Chill and Breakbeat House - the UK has some of the Best Talent on this Earth IMO. Goldie will always have my respect!
One of the greatest jungle tunes ever. This guys just incredible. One of the pioneering electronic music producers from the UK who created the brilliant album timeless. Big Respect to him and other amazing UK electronic creators like The Prodigy, Roni Size, Coldcut, Leftfield, Massive Attack, Orbital, Tricky, Underworld, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Stereo MCs, Shy FX, Boxcutter, Code 9, Dan Le Sac and Scroobuis Pip, AllFlaws
whenever i've seen this man perform he always wanted to be among the crowd ,in Bristol whilst Storm and the late Kemi did their thing there he was a couple of feet away from me down to earth showing his appreciation for his special people on stage, nice memories from a while back.
This is not a song. This is a manifestation of personal experience, of observance, of contact, of understanding, of feeling, of living. It speaks to the deep subconsciousness that knows we are all one.
RIP. So tragic, her synonymous, timeless voice can never be forgotten or mistaken. This is her most famous track, an anthem, an all time fave for most people and symbolic in the history of music that changed the landscape. This particular track resonated with me so much and really sang to many stories and experiences I had.
Woooow.. I remember when I was 7 years old, this was the first drum and bass I've heard in my life. It's a classic! Amazing vibes, amazing vocals, amazing tune! It's one of my favorite songs! Simply brilliant! :)
I liked it. His whole journey was fascinating, and the end result captivating, and as some of the musicians said, indicative of future promise. I remember hearing a Goldie & Metalheadz concert back in early 96, and even then in the last 30 mins or so the music drifted into instrumental jamming, and was basically a jazz set by the end.
M Night Shyamalan twist: You never woke up and this whole internet thing, UA-cam, all these comments, everything, is all just a dream you’re having in 1994.
This Track and his entire Timeless LP must be the best Drum&Bass Album of all time. Goldie and his Engineer Rob Playford broke bounderies with this one...
was listening to some old jungle beats and thought of this track so came on youtube to look for it, wow its still agreat beat and the video first time ive seen it in years, I sure miss the 90s, if you're young and watching this, you should enjoy your youth, life only gets harder, but tracks like this make me feel better and keep trying to get better on in life.
this funny when i would visit my dad in Ipswich, England I was just being introduced to the Techno scene in the late 80's but it has become much more and has grown. Being from the U.S. this was all new to me at the time but I still enjoy listening to smooth Jungle/D&B since i am love Jazz.
when i listen to this song, i need to be alone, watching the nightsky but when is gloomy and almost ambar in color, because of the rain... is truly beautiful this song. i love it.
haven't heard this tune from like 4 years, and Dj Goldie was 1 of the 1st artists that introduced me to the dnb world :) ( and i say an artist, because his music is an art ;) .. and now tomorrow Dj Goldie comes my town for a party :x
this track always takes me back and makes me smile, it makes me think of times when everyone could go out and have a good time, everyone wanted to be your friend.....when everyone one was on E's instead of Coke.
The first song I heard by Goldie was "Kemistry". Way back in the 90s was still in elementary or middle school. I had my tv hooked up to the stereo set it to AUX and everytime a Goldie song came on Music Choice I recorded it ha. Downloading before it was called downloading. Just two years ago I wrote goldie on myspace. A really long message about how he changed my life with has productions. He wrote me back and I FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT! There is a reason he named it "Timeless". The 90s sure miss em
First DNB track I loved. Discovered it thanx to a french and german channel ARTE in 1995. They bring a piece of UK in my house because you're right thelaw1984 I was a "only UK" thing at that time. 1 year later I found the timeless album in french music stores i bought it but i really enjoy this album (except innercity life) maybe 8 years later maybe i was not ready for it in 1996... nowadays i thank goldie from the bottom of my heart DNB is too good to be missed.
heard all of the timeless album played at the brighton music festival when it first came out back in the early 90's and only drum and bass heads knew of goldie and it was fucking awesome.just cant explain how good it was.forever in my mind and never to be heard again.i think i must of heard history in the making for d@b!!BIG UP GOLDIE EACH AND EVERY TIME!!
this was the first cassette single i ever bought. i must of been 11/12, i listened to it non-stop, the b-side remix's were awesome too, i cried, actually cried when the tape got chewed up, but the cd album made up for it... amazing even now....
when this came out in '95 i was only 11 but the combination of the tune and the video stuck on my mind.before december 2009 i last saw this video around '96 or so,but i never forgot it. besides this track i'm not into D&B but still, when talkin about visuals, this is maybe the dearest 90's video for me. "bo selecta!" from Finland :)
changed my life, one of the first drum n bass tracks/video's i ever heard or seen - i was 12 than, i could feel the vibe and the energy of this track inside! wicked... love the video with its moody images also ;;;)
a amazing tune, indeed one of goldie's best, in brittain this music style was called drum and bass, in holland we called it jungle music. a memorable era those dark undergrounds party's.
atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful music and a vocal experience that is unequalled in this genre, from a timeless album comes a timeless track.....goldie.....we thank you.
spot on to everything people are sayin' D & B not even my favourite electronic music but every genre has loads of great tunes. This is a big one for me, adam f-circles was another big one. Very influential in me getting into electronic music as well. wicked, minimal, industrial D & B.
The pinnacle of urban UK music. Obviously D&B is proper international now but back then, it was purely a UK thing really. I fee quite proud that places I grew up in gave birth to such an amazing sound. Incredible tune this, I dont know anyone who has heard it and disliked it.
Most absolutely changed the course of my life. I was and still am in awe. Got all the works on wax . Sometimes I just put it on and stare at the turntable. Thanks Goldie.
I listened to Inner City Life on my iPod cycling from Calais to Vienna. The trip took a month in summer 2009. Our local HMV has just closed down and I'm more into London Elektricity these days.
im so glad i was watching channel 4 just now cause i would've never remembered this song existed...i was 8 years old when this came out and it blew my mind
When I heard the news, this song immediately rang in my mind, so here I am to pay my respects to a wonderful singer whose voice got imprinted deep in my mind.
I was 11 years old when I first heard this in 1994, and forever it changed my outlook on music. When people talk about great British music, this should be one of the first tracks they mention. It's completely timeless. Nothing about it sounds dated.
That means you were born in 1982/83.
It is considered as a great British Classic
This one will always have a special place in my heart. Growing up in a village in rural Southern Germany, this tune blew me right away when i stumbled into a D&B heavy club called Douala in the next bigger city. Barely old enough to even make it into the club. An older friend driving us around, and this tune playing in a tunnely, crowded club. Never felt so excited about music ever again. The memory of this monumental voice and the love for jungle never faded ever since. One way or another, since this day, the song has always been with me. Thank you Diane and RIP.
Back in 1995 man, imagine - still sounds fresh as ever, even after 13+ years. A timeless classis this one...
Goldie is Serious + he has a World of Experience working with many Artist. I'm born and raised in the States and grew up listening to Baltimore Club Music and I always loved Deep/Chill and Breakbeat House -
the UK has some of the Best Talent on this Earth IMO.
Goldie will always have my respect!
RIP Diane. You will always be remembered as the lead singer of URBAN COOKIE COLLECTIVE.
God DAMN those synths are great. The atmosphere within the first minute is just incredible. I think the video is PERFECT too.
I remember listening to this before my first trip to London
I was 10 and so lucky to grow up listening to music as good as this.
That was for many years my fav tune!!
Still after so many years a burner.
whenever i've seen this man perform he always wanted to be among the crowd ,in Bristol whilst Storm and the late Kemi did their thing there he was a couple of feet away from me down to earth showing his appreciation for his special people on stage, nice memories from a while back.
I have heard this tune 100's of times in my life and always loved it, but I have never been so enthralled. Sad really, what a tune, what a singer. RIP
RIP Diane, blesses go out to her and her family, and Goldie for his massive contribution to this piece of art! This piece never dies!
I’ve been looking for this song for years after I heard it on the street when I was kid! I’m so happy to hear it again❤️❤️
This is not a song. This is a manifestation of personal experience, of observance, of contact, of understanding, of feeling, of living. It speaks to the deep subconsciousness that knows we are all one.
Vocalist is the superb Diane Charlemagne, who sung famously with Urban Cookie Collective and Cool Down Zone and Nomad Soul.
Hard to believe that this is the same vocalist from The Key, The Secret. Opposite ends of the spectrum of British electronic music.
ALSO 52ND STREET top
All Time Classic
Another tume that brings you back to the 90's
One of the greatest tracks of all time
RIP. So tragic, her synonymous, timeless voice can never be forgotten or mistaken.
This is her most famous track, an anthem, an all time fave for most people and symbolic in the history of music that changed the landscape. This particular track resonated with me so much and really sang to many stories and experiences I had.
this track is stuck in my head for two things, first is cold ambient atmosphere and second is unique vocal. there is no other track like this.
What a tune this is.
The jungle beat represents the harsh grittiness of city life, whilst the soaring lyrics captures the beauty within.
amazing tune. I remember dancing right next to Goldie when he took this album on tour. Great memories.
RIP Diane
BAD & SAD NEWS
RIP DIVA VOICE.....YOU BRING A LOT IN MUSIC AND WILL BE NEVER FORGOTTEN FOR SURE.
The greatest vocal DnB track ever.
One of the biggest classics of all time!
This was honestly one of the 1st songs I ever heard of jungle... back around 1998ish or so.. Man this started my love for the music
RIP Diane, crazy vocals on so many great tunes.
I remember sitting around the house watching this on MTV's Amp at like 2 in the morning, stoned out of my head. Good times...
Woooow.. I remember when I was 7 years old, this was the first drum and bass I've heard in my life. It's a classic!
Amazing vibes, amazing vocals, amazing tune!
It's one of my favorite songs!
Simply brilliant! :)
This was my first encounter with Drum 'n' Bass...I'll never forget this tune...the best...
RIP. What a huge tune! Many a good vocal on some legendary tunes from back in the day. xx
Nineties man, You got damn right I'm living in the past!
28 years ago I heard this track and everything changed for ever.
I once went to sleep with this song playing on my headphones.
M Night Shyamalan twist: You never woke up and this whole internet thing, UA-cam, all these comments, everything, is all just a dream you’re having in 1994.
How?
This Track and his entire Timeless LP must be the best Drum&Bass Album of all time. Goldie and his Engineer Rob Playford broke bounderies with this one...

This was a classic tune spun at most underground raves in Fl back from 90-94. Good smok song as well !!
Still the best drum n bass record ever made.

I was 15, but I know your feel...gives me goosebumps every time I listen to this tune!
im so glad i was watching channel 4 just now cause i would've never remembered this song existed...i was 8 years old when this came out and it blew my mind
When I heard the news, this song immediately rang in my mind, so here I am to pay my respects to a wonderful singer whose voice got imprinted deep in my mind.
Even though this song reminds me of being a kid in the 80's, it has not aged in terms of concept and content.
Simply Brilliant...
You can literaly hear the emotion and the struggle of the inner city life for us all through this womens voice
I once knocked out to the sound of this. It was one of the most calming moments of my life. And I actually enjoyed waking up.
This song transcends time, it is still amazing!
