I love this idea and have found some other items I'm going to try....so I will keep you posted....I love people who think outside the box and let themselves be creative...great job!! I live in Texas now but you are from my original neck of the woods! I am originally from New Hampshire & Connecticut!
Absolutely brilliant idea, I was this morning looking around to buy these, couldn’t find any in Portugal, we have lots of fly screens and a surplus of 5 litre water bottles, let the production begin!
Wade...I appreciate the video...good tips. Making one now. Took a break and checked out your pickups. I was amazed! What a beautiful sound they produce! Incredible! Definitely on my to buy list!
I watched your video about 6 months ago. I gave this a try, and it worked great! I experimented with some different colors too...black, silver, gold, etc., and even did some where I painted gold or silver, then added some black here and there...really turned out nice! You can't tell they're plastic! Thanks again for this great tip!👍🎸🎶
Such a cool tip! Not that they're that expensive to buy, it's just a hassle ordering and waiting. These can be made guickly for next to nothing. I like the idea! Thanks a lot!😀🎸🎶
I do buy mine in different sizes but there are only a couple of colour options. Gonna give this a go. Really clever. BTW. You sure do say alright a lot. 😎
Thanks for this simple but fantastic tip Wade! I've been struggling with how to make the holes in my boxes look better (less rough and unfinished) and I think this might be the answer. I tried beer bottle tops on the last one (so I'm not sure 'struggle' is the right word!) but it involved me having to flatten the tops, then cut a kind of asterisk shape into the top and bend back the cut metal. It was okay, but nothing as good as this. And as you say - it looks professional too.
I tried this and it worked out great. I used a Simply Orange bottle which gave me a finished inside diameter of 1 3/8". (This looks better to me than the smaller 1" sound holes) Unfortunately, I had to wait a week while we finished the second bottle of juice so that I could make the second sound hole cover. ;)
another idea to make the sound holes look better; put a picture in the bottom of the box so that you can see it through the sound hole. If you put mesh over the hole it looks even cooler when you look at the picture.
Very clever, wish you would have shown the bottom of soundhole did you hot-glue the screening material from the bottom?.....keep up the vid's.....great job!
santascastle just sold it over the summer-that make great homemade instruments because of the percussive nature of the washboard. I like to use half of a Cigarbox on the back to cover the electronics
So which glue do you actually use when gluing in the screen. You mentioned a few that you tried, but which one do you primarily use now? Thx in advance!!!
dgraytcps if you find the right size drill bit, none. Most snap in tightly. I used to glue using hot glue. Until I realize they can be snapped in place

Franko S. You are welcome. The standard size allows you to drill a hole and snap into place-no glue!!!
Thank you great idea

Been looking for an easy sound hole finish and here it is! Thanks
monkeyshark100 yes, so easy and to me these look better than the ones you can buy because they are slightly smaller and customizable.
Great idea! Thanks for sharing.

Great tip!!!
Very creative.
I got screen wire at my local home improvement store. I bet a window replacement company could supply you with as much free screening as you want!
That's great, thanks.
Thank you Kirk. DIY all the way!!!
Brilliant!!

Hi john. I place a small amount of all purpose clear glue on the inside of the ring -there is plenty of surface area there. Thanks for the comment
Tell me more about the washboard one . I have an old wash board that would be perfect
santascastle just sold it over the summer-that make great homemade instruments because of the percussive nature of the washboard. I like to use half of a Cigarbox on the back to cover the electronics
Where do you find your screen wire? Great job! Totally gatta try this!
The DIY starts at 2:20 if you want to skip my jabbering;)
super cool

HiltsBilt DIY Gitty cigar box. Guitar
What's the impact on tone and volume from the sound board when you use plastic?
Ron Miller I don’t think it has much impact as long as they are in there tight-you don’t want any rattles or vibrations.
Good idea....
When you paint them,do you spray or brush them and with what type of paint?...
micky rooney I lightly sand, prime and paint using spray paint.
Exelente :-)
Alright!
