Hey, I never understood what he meant, "It's for tourists". If you were about to get Fort Knox, wouldn't it make sense to call Kentucky for tourists? Why is their heist bounty "for tourists" in a derogatory nomenclature?
Fort Knox is a particularly famous heist target because it houses the US Bullion Depository. Everyone always jokes about robbing Fort Knox because in theory, it's the official repository for the physical wealth of the United States, approximately 8,133 tonnes of gold. It is the 'popular' target, but being having both an actual army post (with helicopter gunships) and US Mint Police on site, it's also one of the most secure installations in the country and has only ever allowed visitors on two occasions in it's entire history, both very specific visits. Contrast that with the US Federal Reserve in New York, which contained 12,000 tonnes of gold (at it's peak), and is open for public tours. It's certainly secure, but no where near as famed as Fort Knox despite actually housing more wealth. The point he was making was in reference to an earlier quote in the movie. "I wouldn't give up McClane for all the gold in your Fort Knox.", which implied Simon wasn't after money. What he really meant was his real target, The US Federal Reserve, held vastly MORE money at significantly less risk to himself. He's saying Fort Knox is just a tourist trap - all for show - compared to what he's after which is the real deal.
In case you don't know, the original melody is called "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya" - an English anti-war song from the 19th century, extremely popular in Ireland. :)
@@theincrediblefox hah! and the story of this melody is much longer. The is a song called "Fighting for Strangers" . It is actually a Steeleye Span song, which itself is a medley of three different tunes and a hodgepodge of lyrics harvested from various traditional tracks, an homage if you will to tracks like Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, Our Captain Called all Hands, Twa Recruiting Sergeants, and others.
Not only is it legendary, but its iconic as well & personally the best theme in all of the Die Hard Films. A theme that really puts you on the edge of your seat with the amount of hype that was behind it, and what was going to happen next, which kept you wondering & focused. Really plays with your emotions and the intensity. Truly iconic this theme is & unforgettable as well. A legendary film, from such an iconic storyline of John McClane. A film that comes very close to the first film in being the greatest with the first film being first. A legendary cast, storyline, soundtracks, comedy, lots of action, intensity and emotion. Bruce Willis as John McClane truly never fails, and adding Samuel really makes it even more dynamic & iconic. Sad that they don't make movies like these anymore, truly way ahead of its time, and a great throwback to the original & first film.
i agree it was the best of all the best, the theme "johny comes marching home "reminds me of the sad translation to hebrew about a soldier returning badly wounded from a battle field and his friend also dead -- how actual this is nowadays here.
A true piece of art is what it is. Thanks for this awesomeness to all and each who'd been envolved. Adorable. This particular track which is based on 'Johnny's comin' home' truly is LEGENDARY. Irish and American conribution in it.

One of my favorite parts is when McClane walks into the Federal Reserve, half blown up and the drum roll is playing... but that part doesn't seem to be on here :(
All of them do. Alan Silvestri, Howard Shore, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, John Williams and the late Ennio Morricone, Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner all did orchestral music, which is considered the modern day classical music.
@@lakechocolate9785 Honestly, a soundtrack doesn't need to be orchestral to be great. Case in point - Tron: Legacy soundtrack by Daft Punk and Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack by Harold Faltermeyer. :)
