Just the fact that this car has a straight line acceleration of 4.2 seconds to 100kmph and the level of chassis and suspension engineering they do makes it a crazy huge car which is still more agile than 90% of cars on the road it’s crazy

In GLS 63 i experienced for the first time in my life an AMG with V8 Biturbo (i love this term, it’s a pleasure to read it :) as co-driver. THIS is a tank, which goes like a Rocket and it’s looking so badass! Yeah it’s heavy, but very comfortable and incredible fast. While kickdown, the entire car hooks up and the suspension of front wheels just says: yeeeeet!!! It’s a breathtaking 4WD-acceleration for someone like me who never experienced such a powerful V8 before (as well if it’s not the fastest). The sound is bassy and has this typically V8-crossplane blumblumblumblum. Really nice. By the way: the reaction time and gear selection of the gearbox are cause of the torque converter (instead of clutches) it takes longer to select right gear cause the fluid in torque converter is really sluggish, so it needs time to downshift (upshifts are way quicker). Engine and gearbox are not directly connected, the fluid streams in same direction as engine flywheel. While kickdown, the crankshaft rotates faster, so the gearbox-whell has to synchronise with engine RPM: it shifts down.
I was amazed by the AMG, spectacular! But could not help but notice how everyone quickly changes lanes as they should after passing, I was also amazed by that.

It should have some kind of double clutch system so that the correct kick down gear for any speed is always engaged. Doesnt matter as much if the other gears at moderate acceleration takes more time to be engaged. And just 1 gear down usually is pretty fast regardless.
A Double clutch would burn up after 10tkm with this weight and Engine power. There are two options: Performance and less longivity or Longivity and moderate Performance. Its not a Race car its a 2,5 Ton Family SUV with a big Engine.

the delay on the downshift its made to give the gearbox more chances to survive , it has to deal 850+ torque and 630+ hp and pull 2.6 tons , an agresive downshift can easy break the gearbox power is big and the weight is big so it lets the clutch setle more genlty on the power thats the delay reason , without calculating you might be towing a trailer with a car inside of it and have your famile insede the gls , an agressive downshift and your gearbox is gone
