That's the problem with the performance: "for a 2.7 ton car". The W222 S63 will slap this thing around on the autobahn, but especially on a twisty road.
Two tips for modern Mercedes: For the pop-out handles, slide your finger across the top. The dimple is the touch area to lock the car. For Neutral, hold the shift lever in the middle position for 1-2 seconds.

It’s like using the turn signals and bumping instead of fully switching them on. You slightly move the turn signal and it blinks 3 times only. The fake sound is exactly as you said, unnecessary, but I totally love the car. That car tuned and an exhaust would be sick + some upgraded turbos etc.
The regular S-class has definitely grown on me (apart from that stuck-on tablet, IMO that's just not gonna cut it for a flagship) although I have to say the W222 looks more classy. BUT, when it comes to the AMG mosel, I think the facelifted W222 S63 is better. Similar straight-line performance with better driving experience (it's a lot lighter, no regen braking, no torque vectoring, etc.). As well as an actually useful trunk.

i usually dont comment, but you hit nail straight to the head, amazing , previous gen in white leather had such a classy stitching on passenger side dashboard, this new feels like machine for surgery, its clean plastic, doesnt scream 200k for me, i wish we can have 7 interior, S class exterior and audi S8 engine.

The new s class is bloody beautiful. Design is amazing. Not saying that the finish or the quality of everything put together is there. But Design it self just great. If Merc would just put efforts to interior quality (build). Still bloody beautiful

Why do you think it has bad build quality? I‘ve been in one (not amg) and the quality was the best i‘ve ever seen by far, like i was really impressed how everything felt.
Instead of comparing it to a GT 63s E it should be mentioned that it cost like 1/3 of a Flying Spur. I think it's a good thing that Mercedes and AMG doesn't do the exact same car in just different sizes, like Volvo. Player 1 can really choose character (and also Player 2 in this case).
@@beaverg2348 You are right, it isn't 1/3. Starting price for GT 63s E starts a bit over 150k and Flying Spur W12 starts at about 300k, so it's closer to 1/2. I'm sure you can tailor your Spur build another 100k while at it but that's another story.
Gotta say the interior really grew on me. After spending some time in the new cars with a big centre screen, I find the older version more comfortable and relaxed. With less options there is simply less to do
They want $800 a month to insure an S580. So that's around $1600 a month in car notes and $800 a month for insurance before you even talk about fuel costs. A $2500 a month car... My second house's mortgage, tax and insurance is $2080 a month lol. My first house is $2000 a month for mortgage, tax and insurance. I can get these speeds in my 2016 Charger Hellcat.

Audi's S8 was built at the RS factory & the 760LI had a V12 so there really was no market for the M or RS variants. They were effectively already from those branches, just without the respective badging.
Nice review on new 63. But I've gotta say as an owner of w221 S63 w/4.0 that AMG can't come up with the best recipe for S-class cars. They're ok at Sport+ mode but at comfort mode, throttle delivery isn't smooth and gear often slips.

As a life long fan of this S class I think this is a step backwards, too much tech involved in every input, and the interior feels noticeably cheaper than previous gens, despite the glam and screens everywhere. With that said, excellent review, it certainly moves like stink which is impressive for something that weights as much as an Escalade!
I must say, I do like the design of the W223, it still looks like a badass luxury machine ( compared to rivals ) considering the era we live in. But I love my 2008 S63 for the 6.2 liter V8. no amount of options, display and toys will be enough to compensate for the lack of proper engines

just a suggestion: don't use a very wide angle lens attached to your fore head. It distorts the shape of the car, and it bounces around a lot thus distracting even more from the car's overall looks.

W222 s63 AMG coupe owner here. I am not buying the new w223 - it’s a step down from mine. Aside from the the G63 and new SL, there is nothing from Benz that is worth buying today.
Right on with your assessment. The interior looks beautiful, but the hybrid system honestly hasn't been refined yet. This is the first generation of this tech; I think I'll wait until the second generation.
Of course this is slower than the GT Coupe, that's 200 kgs heavier on paper and less powerful... But still, this is fast enough to provide you with nice acceleration and reasonable fuel consumption.
The S63 E-Performance interior is really based on Maybach and the exterior based on normal S580. If there's hybrid S65 E-Performance, it would've be faster than the GT63S E-Performance if the hybrid V12 exists.
Not really, the old S63 was also faster than the S65 with the V12. For the following reasons, among others: More weight, no all-wheel drive (no space at the front, at least on the predecessor) and at least another 200 kg more weight and the old 7-speed gearbox (the 9G couldn't cope with the 1000 Newton meters of torque) simply makes absolutely no sense. And ghe GT63S-E Performance woulf still be faster ;)
Driven one already, the button for the sound is so damn fuc***. You turn it off and it actually closes the flap in the exhaust too, so it doesn’t burble outside and everything is muted unless you rev to the limiter. BUT YOU CAN’T CONTROL the flap separately - which means fake sound and burbles outside or no fake sound and no burbles outside. PLEASE AMG do a proper fake sound switch!

I'd truly rather have an S580. I prefer the looks and it isn't so ostentatious imo. The AMG is a bit too "Dubai". In an S-Class, I realllly like having the hood emblem sticking up; only certain cars can pull off that styling these days, and the S is one of them. It feels so regal and majestic overlooking the hood with the three-pointed star in view at the front of the car. 😁 Anyway, the 63 is obviously an extremely nice car, but I think I'd just stick with my Diet Pepsi. (Or get a two year old Alpina B7 🟩🟩🟦🟦 )
S63 E Performace is insane, I think AMG should work on that way It's better than GT63s E Performance if we're talking about the combination of petrol and eletric system Weighting the same as a G63 and performing like that... out of this world This car is great, for now I believe is the greatest car ever made: It's luxurious, pratical, daily, semi-sport I'd say because you won't drive this like an M5 or GT63s, It's sooo beautiful and powerful What else could you want? It feels so regal and majestic overlooking the hood with the three-pointed star in view at the front of the car. 😁 Anyway, the 63 is obviously an extremely nice car, but I think I'd just stick with my Diet Pepsi.
