The Human voice is the hardest instrument to play due to catching colds, getting sore throats etc. You can expect any vocalist that sings live to have a off beat night, or week.
the intro riff on the studio recording just goes to show how well Petrucci translates his musical statements, if "too original" describes his style haha i almost can't criticize them, and wouldn't venture to.
