  • Thank you to Mark for his contribution this week.
'A target of building 300,000 new homes every year in the UK has been scrapped, after many councils had faced significant opposition from existing residents. How do you feel about this decision?'

In the last 15 years we've allowed 10 billion people to come into this country I think the numbers now so fast people don't really relate to a million and what it actually looks like in people

UK population is just under 70 million. Where does your figure of 10 billion come from?

When they build affordable housing they still ask upwards of 200 grand. I would say you would have to be bringing in a very good wage to be given a mortgage on that. Even council house rent is a lot to find for many people and you end up owning nothing.

I live in the south west. You can't drive a few miles in any direction without hitting traffic lights by the sites where they're building new estates and putting services in. The roads are crowded, it takes ages to get anywhere any distance away, but apparently we still need loads more people from God knows where, we haven't got enough yet.

    we need more BUNGALOWS.
There are many people of retirement age who want to down-size, but have nowhere to down-size to. This means they have to stay in their 4-5 bedroom house ( long after the kids have left ) and so nobody can move up the property ladder by buying their 4-5 bed house off them. Hence the poperty "ladder" is stuck on the top rung and all those below also have nowhere to go.
HOWEVER.....if we built say 150,000 bungalows accross the country then that might start a chain of 150,000 new ladders springing into life ? If each ladder had say only say 4 house moves in it, that means 600,000 families are helped by them now being able to UPSIZE as their young families grow. This means the bottom of the ladder people now have a chance of moving up, thus clearing the way for the next family, WITHOUT having to build more "starter homes" that we know are awful to live in anyway.
We already have lots of houses, we justv dont use them properly as we only focus on the bottom rung, while ignoring the huge opportunities that will be created if we address the top rung as well.

was he saying 150 or 50 grand a year? If it is 50 grand you won't have savings to get a mortgage unless you have a rich parents who pay for your deposit

We don't need more houses we just need less people coming into the country because people will say we need more houses we need to reduce the congestion on the road not forgetting good old pollution

We need less immigration and compulsory purchase of all empty properties so they can be used by the English Homeless stating with the veterans .

No we need to repatriate people to their original huge countries ! Our country is tiny , our people are taxed too high . Our roads are jammed ,our infrastructure is overstretched . NHS is collapsing, 18 hour waits for an emergency ambulance . We also need to grow food for ourselves so building houses is futile you would need to build a city every five years the way our population is growing !

The Government are giving houses away to asylum applicants whilst British children are homeless.

This is a topic I feel very strongly about! Do we really need to build more and more houses? It's where the building is done angers me and many others like me. When you start destroying greenbelt land. Areas of natural beauty. fields, forest and woodland, hedgerows etc all wripped up and torn apart just to stick up ugly concrete, plastic and glass monstrosities, eyesores! This is sacrilege not to mention the destruction of the habitat of many wild animals etc. They've just built houses on the field at the end of my avenue and what a sight! They 've ruined beautiful natural land and took away the great view we once had right across the field! NO WE DON'T NEED MORE HOUSES!

If we had not suffered mass immigration since WW2 there would be plenty of houses at reasonable prices for everyone as was the case before WW2.. But the politicians knew best and allowed millions to settle here without thinking where these people would live or considering the fact that UK is a small island. Our housing stock had been depleted by bombing in the war and coupled with the huge demands of immigration prices including rents shot up and despite huge areas of beautiful countryside being turned into endless mundane housing estates immigration has continued and at its present rate there is no way we can catch up. No wonder many indigenous Brits are moving to places like Spain where housing is more affordable and many places are less crowded.

The people arriving here are the same ones that forced English out of their countries after referendums of course there should be a referendum here to repatriate the unwanted !

Or you could just stop the 'giving houses to everyone and anyone who isn't British' policy.... but that would inevitably impact the timetable for completing the "ethnic cleansing of the English from England" policy of the British state.

    No
It needs to remove 4 million. Both illegal immigrants and all the unemployed families of the legal immigrants.

I always thought social housing was means tested until we had issues with our local social housing tenants who caused no end of trouble for everyone around them while also driving around in high end German cars which were changed on an annual basis and arriving home weekly with mountains of designer shopping bags. When we pointed out to the housing association that these people should be investigated and the property given to someone who genuinely needs the assistance we were all told that there is no means testing aspect to the allocation of properties. If your name is on the list long enough you will be eventually offered a house. I know this might not count for a huge per centage of the housing stock but it's still grossly unfair to those genuinely in need.

He's conflating two things...council tenants...it's illegal for them to sublet...and people who have bought former council houses...they are part of the "free market" now, thanks to Thatcher.

I've always said that council property should be use as a stepping stone I gave up my council flat up and bought my own house with the deposit my partner and I had saved. I was very grateful but it seems that fraud, sub letting and over occupancy is now a common occurrence as well as many households earnings are way over any threshold to be considered for social housing.
Immigrants I know live in social housing with £ 40,000 plus cars x 2 and are building a large home in Mordovia, both bought passports in Rumania. There are plenty of immigrants with property and land elsewhere they are not destitute or poor but they claim benefits and have social housing in Britain,
    How can this be right.🇬🇧🖖
