The problem with Diablo (and Blizzard) is that the decision-makers are bankers wanting to make money, not players looking to make an original and fun game.
it is more than that in D4. Some of the game mechanics are horrid. Like loading everyone's stash, horrible customization and plenty more.

path of exile 2 already said they are influenced by this game in how they will tackle trade; stating that they will offer trade where items can be easily searched and instantly bought out and they will find how to balance the game with those in place, but they recognized the playerbase will not accept a lesser solution going forward.
I believe chris from GGG also consulted for last epoch before; and some of the devs as you say are part of gaming communities. karvarusko (prolly spelled that wrong) used to be the most detail-oriented PoE streamer before he was recruited to work on last epoch, as an example. PoE used to have him make a 2h+ video discussing the intrinsics of a new mechanic when it came out, for others to then watch and distill that information into 10min and 2min versions

It was announced today on LE's twitter that they've sold 1 million copies, so happy for them.
This game is great. The only issues have been bugs for me. Game would crash several times a night, and same goes for my friend. I think this is likely to be addressed, however, and frankly the game is fun enough i still loaded back in every time. Can't wait for release and I have to say they have done a great job making quality of life so well implemented. The loot filter, crafting, and infinite stash tabs are game changers.

It's the truth and you know it
The Algorithm brought you up and as a 800+ hour LE player I wanted to see what you thought. You did a nice job with this as an overview. Personally, I love the crafting, the stash tab system paid with in-game currency, and the way EHG broke down what could be an overall very complex passive/skill system into well-organized and understandable chunks.
Would watch any LE/other games on this channel for the chill vibes. Keep it up.

I feel like LE is definitely the best middle ground for aRPGs as we know them. Which is why I'm also excited to see how PoE2's more fluid multi-skill systems will work out. I feel like that's the next step in this genre. More modernisation into better animations which carry weight and movement for your character. Lost Ark kind of did this, but that was a bit too bland of an mmo overall for me.

regarding how many seasonal mechanics there are in Path of Exile, there have been 43 leagues. In the past hardcore and softcore also got its own leagues so there were 2 concurrent leagues each season. That ended in 2015 though with Talisman league
Def playing once the v1 is ready - looking forward to it! Currently playing a Sorc for first time in D4 season 3 but honestly the seasonal aspects just seem like window dressing as opposed to something like PoE’s seasons, which feel more integrated. Still, enjoying setting the world on fire for the most part in D4 right now!😊
I've got over 100 hours in it so far and have loved every bit of it. Very excited for 1.0.
I played LE for almost 400h with 6 chars. I love it but for a single player like SSF in PoE I hit a wall at about lvl 70-80. I will def start playing again on release to see if I can break down this wall and advance further or if I'm stuck banging my head into it and die.
7:00 at endgame you can respect all you want your skills start at level 10 and level to 20 in 1 echo its amazing so easy to play around with builds

I picked up LE aaaages ago and never really got into it, I picked it up again about a week ago and it all just kinda clicked for me this time, I'm actually using my item filter and reading the passives and skills properly ahead of time, making a plan instead of just throwing points at things and wering the items with the biggest numbers.
The way you summed it up kind of fits it perfectly; right smack dab between PoE and D4.
I adore PoE, I'm really looking forward to PoE2. D4 was great in theory, but executed poorly (as seems to be a sad trend with Blizzard as of late)
Last Epoch hits that sweet middle ground for me, and I've been having a blast playing it. Runemaster is one of the coolest ARPG classes I've ever played. Very Evoker from Dota.

Came for Last Epoch, stayed for first time poe as d4 Player and would like to see more last epoch, because this game is fantastic. Almost 400 hrs in and every new uniqe that drops wanna make me a new Char with a new build.
The crafting might be a "simple" solution, but it is the best, or most "feeling of control" u can get.
So excited for Last Epoch to come out of early access, and reach it's perfect place of an ideal Arpg for most players. It's a great game!

It does feel a little clunky sometimes but aside from that its a great game that already has found its place and community in the ARPG genre and i'm very happy about it, couse we need more games like that wich are made by passionate gamers, not suits out to score their next paycheck.
I think they will nail it. Game is fantastic as of now and with all the details we've gotten about the future, it sure looks really promising.
I'm hoping the cycles lean more towards being like PoE's leagues rather than D4's seasons in terms of interestingness. On a somewhat related note to that I'd probably level via the campaign on D4 every other season if you could do the seasonal content during the campaign, the leveling in D4 imo feels bad, I usually burn out around level 60 unless it's a bit better now but i doubt it.
I've been skeptical in pre-ordering this game... Wolcen was a mess, D4 legit put me to sleep... I really want to play another ARPG, I love PoE, but man I simply do not have the time for a game that complex, though I am excited about PoE2. My point being that I really hope this game continues to deliver. I feel like this game's early access is basically the full version of the game though, so I guess there is much less 'risk'. Anyway I'll definitely be playing it at some point!

Last epoch devs innovated a lot with the genre. I was really hoping for blizzard to do the same but I was really disappointed. How can you not expect this from the studio who invented the genre?
the problem with blizz is that they do not play the competitors games and steal the good stuff there and make it better... heck they dont even steal ideas from their old games like d3 and d2😢
Because real Blizzard died long time ago, Activision bought it in 2008 and killed it, they just using Blizzard name to attract old game fans. Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft, World of Warcraft, all made before Activision bought company, those games are brilliant and really fun. From 2008 they made Overwatch and Hearthstone as new original games, never played those games and not going to.
I hope it gets something similar to the season stuff Diablo has.

Last Epoch has been great for a while. A great balance of complexity and accessibility for new players and forgiveness. It has been my 2nd favorite ARPG beyond POE.
Honestly, Diablo 2 was the last Diablo I played, Wrath of the Lich King expansion was the last Blizzard game I bought. I have 4 lvl100s, over 10 mirrors worth in gear and currency in PoE this league...
I don't need a less complex game. I'll probably go back to EvE Online soon and get hooked again.
I really loved watching you discovering PoE though, it brought back memories from 8 years ago when I first played it and had to google stuff up myself. The complexity is rather superficial in PoE.
Yes there is stuff like mirror item crafting which is literally a f**fest for RMT farmers pooling all their currency to create a few meta items early league then having it cloned charging people between 10 and 50$ worth of currency (rmt site price) plus a mirror (easily over 50$ rmt price in normal leagues) for an unclonable copy of the op item.
Then there's the less than 4% of players that actually clear atlas in 3 month time/league, less than 3% players that get all void stones and less than 2% that actually farm pinnacle bosses...
Despite all the seeming complexity, defenses are basically clones in functionality with a few adaptions to new items/mechanics. Once you're creating your own successful builds you will quickly discover the formula and even PoE feels super bland.
PoE inventory management is horrible. Too many currencies taking up the very very limited space, then only bring able to pick up 2-3 items before you're full.
The thing I hate about last epoch is that the shapeshifter class has minions that feel buttery smooth and a wild shape that feels like tar and rusty nails and the necromancer class has a wild shape that feels silky smooth to pilot and minions that feel like pulling teeth
Got my first character through the campaign and it's taking all of my power to not play more so I don't spoil the 1.0 release.
For me it really is the "goldilocks" balance of PoE and D4. And this is just the initial release.
People say that D4 has a good foundation, but LE to me is the true promising start to an ARPG that will keep players engaged for decades.

This is a nice voiceover, but the video is missing at least a little bit of correlation between the gameplay in the background and the topics brought up...
For example when you were talking about crafting. I was waiting for visuals, but it just continued to show scenes of killing monsters. Since I don't really have that much experience with (these) ARPGs, I had a hard time visualizing the things you talked about for myself and kinda got bored while watching.
Sadly the lack of background music or even ingame sonas is also making it somewhat hard to listen to (at least for me). Maybe it's also that your voice just sounds different from previous videos 🤔
I hope you can see where my thoughts are coming from... This might be a one-off, but I still felt like it needed to be addressed.

You think the Filter thing is great? Look at the built in encyclopedia with all the formulas for how the game works laid out for you to read. Every status effect, buff/debuff, every bit of the math for defenses and attacks is explained in clear language with the math formula's laid out. That's been my big 'this is why it will keep new players.' because it explains itself to you. The design philosophy of 'Never should the player need to tab out for info' pays dividends. The skills having their own trees moves away from PoE's 'everything on one menu' overwhelming people. (Same for the passives being in 4 pages with clear layouts.)

Man Diablo in trouble. Last Epoch got a damn hawk interacting with you and picking you up and shyt... D4 got some pigeons swooping in pooping on enemies. Im having a blast with Last Epoch. Even with bugs its just fun. Looking forward to 1.0 release
If it took 10 hours to get into the gnash of path of exile the community would be even more unhappy about the frequency of seasons/fresh character starts. It has no guard rails, but it also has very little onboarding time, makes it more enjoyable for having to do a fresh start.
Orbs of regret, you don't get to re-spec at an early level, but you can re-spec pretty cheaply once you're a bit into the game (by that time you will probably realize the you can make the skill tree you chose work without too many changes)

Ive never had the game crash at all. To me this is actually the best arph on the market right noe including bugs. PoE is yhe titan giant but its so convulted and TBH PoE got away from it self during 2016 and 2018 and again in like 2021
Quiting diablo4 tonight buying last epoch instead mastered grim dawn that game was so good never played last epoch .
How is the multiplayer in Last Epoch? I don't touch the campaign any more in Diablo 3, I spend the majority of the time doing rifts, greater rifts and bounties in multiplayer.
Well technically you cant respec as much as you want as you can't respec/change specialization, while you can in fact respec and change ascendancies in POE. But I do agree that for POE2 they really should aim for cheaper/a more free way to respec at least while leveling to make it less shit for new players.
I'm playing 2 days. And for now its great. But i have a little problem with... skill slots. There is only 4+1(on mouse click) skill slots. I'm on lvl 55 and i can use 19 different skills. But i have to choose only 5. And one of them has to be movement skill bc there is no dogde. So from 18 skills i have to pick 4. Oh, and i'm necromancer. I wanna army of undead. And i have 6 undead summon skills. Oh and i dont wanna just stay in place and run. So i need at least one skill that deal dmg. Drain life sounds good.
So i have to use movement skill, attack skill. And as a necromancer i want to use summon skills. So i have 3 skill slots. And 6 summon to choose. There is two types of skeleton army skills, 2 type of resummoning high dmg minions, and 2 skill with one big bad boy.
Ok so lets go with
Transplantation(movement), life drain(dmg and heal), summon bone golem, summon bone mages, and summon wraiths. Sounds good. Oh, look and aura. A poison aura. Sounds funny. And curse skills. And setup skills.... oh wait. I cannot use them bc i dont have more slots. Ok. So maybe i summon bone golem. Switch skill to poison aura and play that way? Oh i cant bc switching my golem skill kills the golem.
Thats suck. In PoE i could use ALL this skills at once.
Oh and before someone replies that it's not a problem. This is the problem. Because most builds use the same skills.
The main reason I was interested in this game was Rune master. Only when I play as a rune master I need it
1. Movement skill
2. Rune activator
3. Cheap fire spell
4. Cheap ice spell
5. Cheap electro spell
And since there are at most 1 or 2 cheap spells per type in the game, it dictates which spells I can play.
i fully agree! Have played about 600hours of LE so far and its amazing, the perfect middleground! Once we get a few seasons going endgame will be more fleshed out aswell, lots of new content planned and coming
I've tried twice PoE but each time the game is too complex for me. I reach maps, die all the time and the game doesn't explain anything. I've watched guide after guide and still struggle a lot. It's a shame bc I feel like the game could be very fun and watching videos of other people, i feel like I miss all of the fun part. Last epoch is so much accessible to everyone. I'm loving playing through the campaign so far and I'm looking forward for its release!

I don't think PoE is more complex than LE. PoE is completely silent about it's mechanics. And LE tells you everything about every affix, every point in skilltree etc. That's where the difference come. PoE pretending to be a mysterious, dark, shadow-covered person, then the LE is a wide-smile one with spreaded hands and it waiting for you to come in and get some lovely hug :)

Path of exile is fcking rocket science, thats not how arpg should be imo, the fun about diablo is that it's so accessible, so if this game is also easy and fun to play, i might try it

I mildly enjoyed the D4 campaign, but outside of that I thought it was a terrible video game clearly designed by committee, a committee of non gamers who put money streams over making a fun game. Last Epoch looks exactly what I wanted out of D4, I'll be online minute 1 tomorrow to give it a proper go
These are the problems i have with Last Epoch for now leading to a negative review that will probably stay after release if they don't change that :
- Flash system is garbage ( Not having 100% loot on flasks when you miss some in you belt is shit. Not starting the game with your full belt of flasks is shit).
- Crafting system is average : Not enough forging potential, costing too much and mandatory glyphs that have a chance of 25% to not consume forging power but those glyphs are the rarest drop ever.
- Item that loot on ground are garbage ((Like looting a level 8 with lowest affixes in a level 50+ zone WTF ??)
- Balancing and diffuculty spikes are not smooth (A huge balance passe is needed before 1.0 releases)
- Build depth is better than D4 but not enough compared to Grim Dawn
- Length of its campaign : This is too long. 10 Acts in PoE are allready a chore when you just want to endgame. Even Grim Dawn has shortened oit's path to max difficulty by cutting the mandatory Elite difficulty and the existence of merits.
- Endgame is ultimately boring when you only have wanabe PoE maps (monolith of fate) and a few dungeons that are not interesting at all.
forgot the part where the graphics for Last Epoch are horrendous. It's a tough sell to the average gamer when the game looks like its from te Playstation 2 era

most of times when i see people talking about poe and comparing it to another games they always sound like they dont know much what they are talking about.. the part of the video where you tried to explain how re-spec works in d4, poe and LE you said "and in POE you have to gather all this currency at the end.." in fact, POE re-spec system is one of the best systems. The currency used is called Orb of Regret and it's CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, you can drop TONS and you can buy in bulk for so cheap from other players if you want to.. The point is that you right click that currency and you earn a respec point, if you want to clear a entire talent tree with like 50 already selected nodes, you only need 50 regrets, which will cost you around... 20 chaos? not even that most of the seasons. POE 2 will use gold just like Last Epoch but to be honest having all skills deleveled to level 1 after respec sounds a bit bad imo. Its Last Epoch method the winner here? I mean, not if you ask me.

D4 was such a disappointment. I was so hyped for it and the early beta was nice. And then they failed us. Now that I think about it they did same with Diablo Immortal. Rax had played it early and the closer it got to release the worse the game got. And I think that it just speaks for Blizzard. They don't really care about the game or about the community. They want to fix the game to make the better because better games make more money. Not to make better game for better experience.
Now I don't even play D4. Haven't bothered to log on. It's PoE until Last Epoch release and who knows which takes over. Last Epoch until PoE2? Maybe it'd be too long time away from PoE.

LE spends 90% of its resources focused on the skill tree where 99% of the player base find 99% of the joy in the game - what a novel idea - blizzard with a small "b", pls pay attention!

First. Last epoch looks amazing.
From what i remember Last Epoch guys are friends with PoE guys, and they share some ideas between companies from time to time.
Most poe complexity from from the "pathing" (you know, path of exile) part of leveling, most new players can't get pass the firts few levels because how intimidating it is, but it is what theorycrafters like to mess around with.
IMO this system by itself doesn't translate necessarily to a very depth ARPG but it is a risk/reward situation where if you screw up (and specially are new) you simply cannot go back and because how pathing (the skill tree) works, having the knowledge of which nodes work better for your build and which path is the most efficient to take the most valuable ones with the lowest amount of investment is crucial to make a good build.
The bad part of pathing is that it is kinda of obstacle to learn the game mechanics because at the beginning you are not necessarily focusing on you know taking the nodes that make sense to make a build viable, like more damage or survivability etc. Instead you are more focused on making sense of the mess of a build you made, on how you should fix it, or if you should just follow a guide (which many players don't pass from that point because they are intimidated to actually interact with the game and learn from their mistakes so they can make a better build themselves).
LE is understandably way more approachable to new players in that sense, and it's still a game where you feel like you are constantly making decisions that make your builds better and more complete. In that sense it is a game with a lot of depth, and potential to have lots of more depth, but without the complexity and barely any kind of pathing system that makes PoE players love it or hate it. The game has fewer passive nodes, which are easier to access, many of them are unique and very impactful, but you don't have to read the entire 1000+ points skill tree to know about them. And of course it has the brilliant class and skill specialization system, which adds tons of depth and personalization on how you want to play and make your own builds, they also work as a guideline on how you should approach your build, which skills and game mechanics you want to synergize them with, etc.
Im looking for a friend to gift me this game.

What a surprise: When you develop a game thats just fun players like it! Maybe someone should tell Blizzard that all the unnecessary crap like open world and horses are not worth much when your core game is an unfun grid fest with no QOL features and end game? Recent Releases like Paleworld make one thing clear: Originality is not important. Fun is at the heart of gaming. So stop to produce games that feel like a second job with countless hours of playtime driven by skinner boxes but without fun.
Last Epoch is like PoE, but with a very much less good crafting system, a conventional class system where you won't choose your spells freely but from those of your class, so much less things to do (normal without having 10 years of history) and for me, a less good gameplay...
Last Epoch is for casual or semi casual. Hardcore gamers will stay on PoE and will go to PoE 2
The crafting is simpler yes, but it is still very enjoyable and has a surprising amount of depth if you get into it, there is also potential for the devs to expand on it to add more ways to craft. It still offers you more possibilities than most ARPGs.
The passives and skills are limited per class but that allows them to be more fleshed out and customizable, rather than the more "generic" approach that poe has with skill and support gems, there is none of the transformative nature that skills in LE have.
It's really less about the game being for "casual" and rather having good systems that keep players engaged, IMO PoE has good things but Last Epoch offers you a very refreshing approach for ARPG systems, you can just enjoy both.

I don't like the gameplay in LE but it cans improve too.
It's a good things LE exists (and i gave it a positive appreciation on Steam), personnaly i prefer PoE and i'm a noob , 1 month playing PoE and i struggle to go high end.
But like i always thought, i want to be the limit, not the tool (or the game ) i use is the limit.
I'll go in PoE 2, of course.
Both can cohabit perfectly, PoE for challenge and LE for chill fun. We are blessed for having the option.

Seeing as this low budget trash can't even be released on console it most certainly is NOT for d4 players as myself and all of my friends play d4 on ps5 and will NOT be buying LE for pc.
