I love Extar as a company. We need more people like them in the industry. I had to contact their support department to get some information about a product, I was pleasantly surprised the level of engagement and support. Great people, wonderful products.
I was unaware of Extar and their EP9 / EP45 until seeing this. I went looking around the web for them and found they are made in Arizona, which surprised me. I wonder if I would like one, but not enough to go looking for one to buy. PCCs aren't very desirable to me. I do appreciate your "look back" at this one, it taught me about something of which I previously had zero knowledge. In spite of the ballistic shortcoming, I still carry my .45ACP XDe from time to time. Love those 230 grain pills.
I've had the Ep9 for over a year. Put a YHM R9 on the end and it is the favorite of my collection to shoot. Very nice. I plan on getting the 45 for the reasons you pointed out. Heavier round and perfect for suppression. Extar, made in the USA.
I like the idea of the 45 Extar for all the reasons you mentioned. Id bet the Extar is probably one of the most accurate large format 45acp pistols available too- looking at you LWRCI. 😅
Graham, try the extar with some liberty defense copper loads around 120gr or less- i bet the flat trajectory, negligable recoil velocity and energy down range might surprise you.
The LWRC cause of price and availability was always just out of reach to buy. The Extar seemed like the 45cal to experiment with first. Extar is still on my list of wants. Just lower than some others
45 out of an 8" or 9" barrel is usually (ammunition and barrel dependent) significantly but NOT dramatically faster. However, having better control over a firearm has it's obvious benefits. So yes, a "real caliber" PCC is the absolute minimum for home defense. This would be more than adequate. Speaking of which... If you have a dedicated home defense "long-ish" arm or truck gun...attach a good sling to it. Do at least some training to familiarize yourself with how it handles and also to test the sling attachments.
I have the EP9 Gen 1 and have loved that thing for 3 years now. Never an issue at all. May have to pick up their .45 one day!

Love my EP9, 1st gen.
Thinking about getting this one!

I like those 510c's. That looks like a great lil pistol. Thanks for the share!!
I know the Glock pattern mags they produce , run fantastic
18rd 9mm mag .. same length as a G17 mag ( one extra round)
Obligatory comment incoming 😂 i love Extar 🇺🇲🤠 I'm glad you tried it👍

For home defense, replace that linear comp with 45 can and it becomes a lot more viable.

👍
.357 magnum is really effing loud inside with no hearing protection. Ask me how I know. 🥴
But...is it legal to brace one or not?
Yes, always has been.
