I still can’t figure out how you don’t have a million subscribers? Love this video. Have the original extar and now I will have to get this one eventually.
I was just thinking about all the stories of how under-powered .45acp is right when you explained the ballistics and history. I like the concept and .45 is easy to suppress too!
What a great review of this pistol! I had never considered this pistol because I thought it was just another straight blow back AR-9 pistol with its characteristic heavy recoil. You did a great job of demonstrating its unique design as something different. I also love the fact that it has the ability to use a suppressor as .45 ACP is already sub-sonic. In regards to the price this is an outstanding value.
I think I’m in love. Extar makes great PCC’s and this scratches that 45 acp itch with a larger diameter than say a 300BLK with subs does. They hit with about the same ft lbs but the 45 acp is a larger diameter with a shorter barrel. I’m compelled to purchase one. Some people buy candy as an impulse buy… bing bang boom sticks are my impulse buys. Extar has a great reputation too. It’s the Reese’s of impulse buys.
Great vid Graham! Got a like and share from me! I am an Extar fanboy. I have bought 3. I sold 2 for profit, and currently have a tricked out gen 2 EP9. The EP45 may be the ideal gun for suppressor use. Also for those in mag limit states. If you can only have 10 round mags, it seems an excellent choice. I will get a 10mm as soon as it comes out. I would love to see the line keep expanding to 5.7, 22TCM, and even 30 Super Carry! But honestly, the EP9 is PERFECT for me. Mine has an Olight Sigurd AFG/light, SBA3 brace (For now.), Lead Star Arms Ravage muzzle break, and a Cain Arms thumb rest. Topped with a Hawke 12 145 large view reflex sight. It is loaded with Liberty Ammo 9mm+P Ultra-Lights. 50 grains at over 2100 fps.!!! From a kitted out 5 pound braced pistol with a loaded mag. The question is. Is it more effective than an 8.5 inch 5.56 AR from 0-50 yards? I think so!
Looks awesome. Whoever designs Extar's pistols really knows what they're doing. Some of the small things on this and the 9 stand out in simplicity and efficiency. Is it hard to stabilize while shooting without a brace? Ever do a truck gun comparison video?
I like it. $499 list is not too bad either. I'm just not thrilled with polymer. And that J hook front pivot point looks like the Achilles heal of this design. Especially if dropped. But no one drops their gun, do they? I'm certainly looking forward to your range review. Thanks for your efforts.
@Vitor Roma I said I like it. I'm just gonna wait a minute before I drop $500 on one. As the my grand pa told me, "if it's a good deal today, then it will be a good deal tomorrow." 😉
Caleb at 12 Spies hinted at this new release from Extar, so I had a feeling you’d do one too Graham. Looking forward to your thoughts on range day! Edit: I have the EP9 so I expect it to be quite similar:)
I’m interested how it handles. They advertised a 45 and 10mm years ago but it never materialized. I have an early model EP9 with thousands of rounds and it’s still going strong except for the shell deflector lol
Honestly the biggest benefit of a 45 caliber PCC is that most standard 45 loads are already subsonic so it’s much quieter than standard velocity 9mm suppressed.
I just ordered my ep9. I was surprised to see the ep45 was available. I considered it, then I checked the price difference between .45 ammo and 9mm...and yeah, I have an ep9 now.
I think I still want a longer barrel, more like a Thompson. But I'll take this until more options are available. (A ridiculous 10 inch muzzle device is not acceptable)
I sold my gen 2 ep 9 after sending it back to extar to get double/triple firing fixed. They sent it back saying it was fixed but it wasn't. Even your ep9 gen 2 range video you had a double fire. I asked about it and got no response. I wish I never sold my 1st gen ep9 because it was amazing. I can't trust the gen 2 which is why is sold it. Can't spend the money for this 45 as much as I'm tempted to do so.
great content awesome review: I am a huge fan of the EXTAR I do not have one but am a fan I plan on getting one in the near future. well I guess two now. however I would have rather have seen the EXTAR-45 with a 7.5" barrel or maybe even chambered in 10mm, but that is not a deal breaker, and coming from a nobody, who's opinion means nothing to anybody my opinion doesn't count.
Almost all of our videos go first to our Patrons, then to GBGunsDepot, and then become public on UA-cam. You can catch the Shooting Impressions here: www.gbgunsdepot.com/post/extar-ep45-announced
The argument / logic you present for 45 vs. 9 was perfect. I have never heard the rationalization the way you presented it. 45 is ideal vs 9 if you can afford and manage.
45 needs 5 inches or more.... that is freaking amazing... I did not know this, but it makes perfect sense ... so with 1911 only go with the 5 inch barrel ?
If you want proper energy and the round to perform as intended. There are loads designed for shorter barrels, but in general 45acp is meant for a 5" and 9mm is meant for a 4" as per US ammunition making standards.
@@GBGuns Well, tbh, the reason I looked in to them was because I just bought one of their inexpensive ambi charging handles from "Delta Team Tactical"-- the "United Defense AR15 'Holy' ambi charging handle" (dear God, what a name... Lol). My goal was to see if I really did get the good deal it seems to be. Or else, if I just got what I paid for. lol! Either way, their CH seems to work well, and it's not as bad as I was expecting, tbh
This may be a gun you want suppressed. .45 is byfar the best pistol cartridge with suppressors given it doesn't break the sound barrier. Not in science jargon, it's extra quiet.
Especially suppressed. I recently got my first suppressor, a 30 cal, and lately I've been regretting not getting a 45 or 46 cal so I could have a 45 cal pcc for home defense. As far as I know most self defense loads are subsonic in the caliber so it'd be perfect. TTUTT
I recently replaced our VERY tired Canon Vixia HF G50 with the Vixia HF G70. They're essentially the same camera, but our G50 had filmed a couple thousand hours, been on tripods that blew over, frozen, etc etc. The servos in it were getting slow and focus would wander. I can't recall if I filmed this with the 50 or 70. The Avidity Arms video that posted this week used the 70 as the primary camera, 50 as the secondary and you can see a picture quality difference. Same sensors and camera abilities, just a difference of one being younger and the other worn out.
After watching and looking closer at an EP9 I noticed how much different the bolt and charging handle are between the EP9 and EP45. The EP9 does not have the huge fin on the bolt and the EP9 has a non-reciprocating charging handle--it is connected to piece of polymer that sit in front of the bolt but is not attached to the bolt. The charging handle on the EP9 does not need to be removed to pull out the bolt from the receiver. The charging handle on the EP45 is connected to the fin affixed on top of the bolt. I wonder due to additional blow back pressure from .45 ACP resulted in Extar needing to add more mass to the bolt on the EP45 thus they were unable to implement a non-reciprocating bolt on the EP45. What does your EP9 bolt weigh versus the E945 bolt? Will the folding charging handle from the EP45 fit in the EP9? The EP9 appears to have the same grip on it as the EP45 with Extar molded into the polymer. Version 2 of the EP9 originally still included a Glock mag and B5 System Mod 23 grip. Later Extar announced the release of their own in house magazines. I don't recall an announcement of switching to their own in house grip. I am fine with them moving parts in house if that allows them to keep the price down and maintain a high level of quality. I think many EP9 owners would be interested in buying a longer, folding charging handle.
Great review, and I love my Extar 9mm. I can appreciate 45 it's still a little bit too expensive for plinking. I'm interested in the 5.56 version but harder to find, but it would be fun for plinking.
@GBGuns Appreciate the response 👍! How is it an option? I don't see it anywhere on their site? And if it's an upgrade on this model compared to the 9mm variant, why is it not standard?
Any self defender using a rifle doesn't have time to stop and inspect the action and clear a malfunction. If he does, he probably shouldn't be using a gun in anger.

Nope, it doesn't have a rotating barrel 😉 Definitely made for CQC, not long distance. Great tabletop Graham!
I'm still carrying a 1911 LoL carried for over fifty yrs
Would like to see a head to head between this and the new bear creek bc-45

Honestly the biggest benefit of a 45 caliber PCC is that most standard 45 loads are already subsonic so it’s much quieter than standard velocity 9mm suppressed.
Mine arrived today and does NOT have the folding charging handle. I am glad about that. The ATF does not legislate.
I just ordered my ep9. I was surprised to see the ep45 was available. I considered it, then I checked the price difference between .45 ammo and 9mm...and yeah, I have an ep9 now.
9mm is certainly less expensive ammo, it's half the bullet! (115gr 9mm vs 230gr .45 ACP)
I want one, but I am waiting to see how the ATF pistol brace BS plays out.
In the mean time this tubecover should be compliant
The 45 acp round you showed was the 78 grain Liberty civil defence round. That is a very extreme hollow point at about 1600 fps.
Yes, resulting in insane muzzle energy
I got the EP9 because I'm cheap. 33 round mags are nice too.
I think I still want a longer barrel, more like a Thompson. But I'll take this until more options are available. (A ridiculous 10 inch muzzle device is not acceptable)
I have seen videos on the 9mm and would take the .45cal, unfortunately I live in commifornia and cant get them

I believe that was from the adjustable trigger which they have discontinued. It didn't adjust weight, but adjusted travel.

It's very difficult to manufacture an AR overseas, import it, convert enough parts for 922r compliance, and have it still price competitively.
