Completely agree, among some of the bugs I E-mailed about (not to mention how you can cheese some of the fights by just staying on the edge) was that sound effects appeared to be missing.
The sound effects is something they can patch in the future but my real problem is that the bosses feel to passive, look at Beethoven, you just jump and barely moved, I can't remember any Cuphead fight where you could be still and hold the the shoot button, or the rooster fight, I didn't feel like those archers were aiming at you but rather an already fixed angle They need to make the bosses a little more agressive in my opinion
sontehing that felt like missed oportunity is the use of different styes of animation during some boss fights. 1st fight turns u into a tim burtonesque character and u don't get to see that again until the last fight were you turn into another styles. Huge missed oportunity there
I have a few things I wanna say about this game, so sit tight Quick note:This is NOT a hate message nor is it something I wrote in an attempt to make the developers feel bad, plus I have some positive things I wanna say Gameplay: The first thing that kinda stood out to me is the fact the bosses are kinda easy, most of them are barely a challenge to get through, some of them don't even feel like they deserve the fight, just look at the princess battle, she doesn't even fight back until the second phase. This could have been fixed if they just put a little more things on the screen since sometimes the battle seems to be completely empty Imagery:This is what I feel like is the better factor of the game, I like the animation and the designs of the characters, my favorite being the ceberus dog, however there is a small flaw in them, figuring out if you hit the character or not. For the most part I didn't think they were hitting the bosses at all, making me think that little to no progress was made when fighting them. I do find the little background details in the levels fairly charming, such as the pictures of the cows parents being in the background, it's a cute little detail. I also liked the Beethoven battle, it's just a shame he only had one phase. I also like the inclusion of the other styles, it such an interesting touch and I kinda wish that's what the game was instead, every level is a different art style with bosses to fit the styles aesthetic Sound design:This is where I saw the most flaws, there were little to no sound effects, with only the music playing it sounded a little empty. Speaking of the music, I don't think they really nailed the aesthetic they were going for, with the look of the animation and the styles, none of it sounded classical or interesting to the point where it could really immerse you into the world they were trying to show us In conclusion; the game is alright it's just not something for me, however if the game is interesting and/or fun to you, that's totally fine and I'm glad you were able to have fun playing the game
If you wish to change the timestamps, I found out through the game's achievements on Steam that the witch is named _Meowitch_ and the rooster is named _Rocky._
Honestly, the lack of sound effects and naybe some "voices" does feel like one of the games biggest issues from this video. Still does look like it would be fun though, when the game was first shown, I felt like people were wayyyyy too harsh on it for being a "Cuphead Clone". Absolutely nothing wrong with more games like Cuphead so I hope rhis game does well and people understandably temper their expectations.
This looks fun, this is something I would definitely play after completing cuphead. The mechanics and style is unique in its own way. This is from looking at the bright side of the community's thoughts and feelings about this game. Well this is actually my own thought.
The Rooster Boss at 12:05 almost looks like Chanticleer from Rock A Doodle in fact that first phase of the boss fight reminds me of Rock A Doodle because the rooster boss almost looks like Chanticleer!
I don't believe so as I didn't get an option to switch between them or select them at the start of a playthrough but like how Mugman wasn't initially available for solo play hopefully the developers will update it to let you pick.
Wow i didnt know this was released. I gotta say its NOWHERE NEAR as cool and polished looking as the trailer had me believe. This looks nice but thats it. seems unfinished.
Yeah, I'm a bit lukewarm on the game and had wanted to at least give it a try as folks saying "X is a clone" to dismiss it has them overlook some good games. I've E-mailed as many bugs/problems as I could find and hopefully future patches polish the game but it's nowhere near the quality of Cuphead, especially due to it being very linear with no secrets to find and no normal vs. expert difficulty that Cuphead offered. Insane difficulty in Enchanted Portals is just one life to clear the entire game with no healing whatsoever.
Exactly, all of the bosses feel static in movement and insignificant in character. They don’t even have names 💀. The main characters don’t even have names. Everyone is boring appearance-wise as well. This game is just an imitation of cuphead without knowing what made it good.
I really wish the theming was more consistent, what makes Cuphead's characters interesting is because they take inspiration from old, vintage cartoons to the point that they even look like they straight up came from that era. Enchanted Portals on the other hand just slap the 20s-30s cartoon style. Since the main characters are wizards and the game title literally has the word ENCHANTED in it, why not make all the bosses fairy tail characters??
Y'know: The levels in this game actually wouldn't be _that_ bad if only they were just a _Cuphead_ DLC, like _The Delicious Last Course_ (God bless that fabulous DLC), but as an *_entire_* _Cuphead_ ripoff? That will not fly in my book. However, the Rooster's 1950s greaser-like first phase and theme playing during said phase were actually pretty cool.
The level design problem here is it's just left to right with enemies in the way that you have to kill to proceed (or in some cases, to avoid getting overwhelmed). There's no secrets, there's nothing to collect, and challenges like a pacifist completion of levels like in Cuphead. Plus Cuphead throws in more stuff for the platforming - riding an octopus as enemies jump out of the water to attack, climbing a tree and platforming on leaves, or having a chase sequence. Enchanted Portals goes for the most bland option and is all the worse for it, unfortunately.
The Don't Starve artstyle change for the first fight is neat but ngl kinda just drives home that fact that this game's usual artstyle is just a copy of Cuphead. xD
I love how 99.9% of the attacks in every boss has no sound effect. So its basically just music The fact that it was released like this is just pure laziness With the lack of sound effects the game feels empty Edit #∞ Iirc the trailer for this game had sound effects where did they go?
I know this is probably a small game that gets way more hate than it actually deserve, but there are a lot of things that don't feel right. Like everyone is saying, the lack of sound effects makes it feel less intense and immersive than it could be. I also feel like a lot of the bosses don't attack a lot themselves, but instead send minions all the time, and you merely need to dodge them while shooting at one thing that only has an animation playing on loop. I hope for the developers that the hate train dies down, even if it is true that the game doesn't do enough to separate itself from Cuphead, and that promoting it by using the Cuphead name was a very bad move on their part.
No doubt this game needs some real fine tuning. The designs are ok, but the animation looks stiff and awkward. It could use more personality. Especially in the cutscenes which are just still frames. The combat will need a serious overhaul; tone down the projectile output, give us more invincibility time after being attacked, and give us some more things to do than just shoot. And the final stretch seems weirdly unfinished, with the last 3 bosses being really short, and it just dropping the Run and Gun segments all of a sudden. The sound design is strangely weak, even in the rare moments where they can be heard a decent amount. That will need to be enhanced the most. At least the music is catchier than it has the right to be. I'm reminded of Grant Kirkhope's work on Banjo Kazooie for some of it. It's just that a few improved aspects could elevate this to enjoyable at least.
I'm a little mad people defending this game for saying it was made by only 2 people That's not an excuse or justification in any way The way is bad, stupidly bad xd
More like this is Cuphead with scratches in its paint, a couple of dents, and smoke coming out of it every once in a while (which may as well be everytime your try to play it).
so jarring how it just transitions into the shitty slideshow when you beat a boss. not well at all. if you didn't have the budget or time to add a cute little defeat animation, you should at least add a fade out screen effect. and this is on top of the whole game lacking sound effects. somehow it just feels lifeless, despite the charming animation.
The game looks alright but I cannot be the only one who think it needs more sound effects
Completely agree, among some of the bugs I E-mailed about (not to mention how you can cheese some of the fights by just staying on the edge) was that sound effects appeared to be missing.

I like how the final boss's last phase is a wizard kid. That's a fun little reversal. The game gets 1 point for that.
Yeah. For some reason it reminds me of the Collector from The Owl House…

The roosters name is Rocky
And in the fifth boss the buffalos name is Bull
Boss 7 is Conductor
And the final boss is Book of Magic

This game is ok. It just needs more sound to be added to the gamee plus I like the cuphead approach they're going for
that jump sound effect is horrendous
Beethoven fight should've been longer
I think they need more support on this game the animations look unfinished like in the trailers

Iirc the trailer for this game had sound effects where did they go?
They had to sell the sound effects because of budget cuts
While many of the game's aspects can be excused, you've got to admit the Rooster fight is just random bs.
At least Beethoven didn't get as trippy as the Dragon's Lair 2 version.
Not really, It's supposed to be him travelling backwards through time.
Tim Burton!?!?!?!?!??!
This game come out tomorrow for PS5, XBOX series X and Nintendo Switch

I see so just like how cuphead was meant to look like old school cartoons this game was meant to look like old school clip art
So this is just cuphead? seems like just a copy and paste with cheaper production
I prefer cuphead
Me too
I think we ALL prefer Cuphead
Weapon/Power needed?
It really doesn't matter what weapon you use against bosses as I think the DPS is about the same.
Looks Really cool but ima stick to cuphead because I’m currently trying to 100% it
they had time to polish and listen to critism....and they didnt. also oh my god they cheaped out during the defeat screens
