Organic versus Synthetic dye…..great reminder…..the time lapse was FUN….the marbling colorations were beautiful….!….really excited to see what plans for the fabric…..
I have been cross stitching for over 40 years and I love yoir videos. Your videos are fun and informative. I hope you continue t p post your videos. I also love Caterpillar Cross Stitch
Wow! Your dye job came out beautiful! I need to try this, of course I know that no matter what I do, short of donning a hazmat suit, I will make a mess of myself (it's just the way I roll...). Thank you for the very informative video - you're the best! ❤ It's a good thing you had set the dye before Caramel decide to sniff the project - She could've ended up with a purple nose.
Thanks, I'm very happy with them and can't wait to use one! I have some friends who are adamantly "Team No Gloves." Their hands are always funny colors. Thanks for watching!
It looks easy enough. Just choosing the right colors and keeping the ice piled on top seems to be the hardest. I've never thought of dying my cloth but it does make some wonderful colored fabric.
It is super easy! You just have to trust the process and not be too attached to any particular outcome. It really adds a nice touch to a project. Thanks for watching!
So cool!! I love it. I'm heading to town today and now will be picking up some Rit dye. This will be fun and save me some money. I have a lot of neutral fabric that I can use. Thanks so much for this video, Ford.
Ford, how would it work if you dump the dye powder into salt shakers (smaller holes) and then applied the "sifted" dye powder to the ice? I would think you would get a more even distribution and layering different colors would be easier.
Fascinating and something to try! What would you use for evenweave seeing as it's a mixture of cotton and synthetic? And, how do these stand up when washing a finished project? Thanks again. Love your videos. Always easy to follow, nice and clear 😊😊
For a small piece of fabric like that, may I recommend using a metal sieve suspended over a bowl or pot? It's a lot easier to keep everything contained.
The synthetic dye does not really work on natural fibers. It might leave a small amount of color but mostly just from soaking into it and it won't be color fast.
Thanks for the cool idea! Could you talk about different fabrics and how to stitch them? Like, what is 2 over 1, or 1 over 2 whichever it is. Or linen? I have only used 14 count aida cloth and dish towels. Thanks
Most people who do this say no, but I've absolutely done it! You just have to be careful to distribute the dye. I used a large syringe to dribble it around. To do get a pretty different texture to the color that is fun! My favorite pieces were done using a combination of the two.
Fabulous video. I've heard of "ice dyeing" but I could not imagine how it would be done. Would you consider showing coffee/tea dyeing? And maybe on a non-aida fabric? I am curious to see that technique. Loved seeing Caramel! Hi Nugget!
Sure! Next week's video is also about how to pick a good color of fabric. And if you check out my recent video on framing. The project I frame in that video is on a piece of fabric I ice dyed with this technique. Thanks for watching!
There is absolutely no way that I would do this. I need colour to be applied consistently over all the material. If I want tie dye, I have to buy it already done. Just saying!😂😂
Definitely not a technique for the control freaks among us! I like the natural variations that happen but they're not great for every project for sure.

Thank you for teaching this technique. The fabric is pretty.😊
I'm very happy with it. Thanks for watching!
Interesting technique. Thanks for the info!
Of course! Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much! You took the scary out. I'm going to try it!
Yay! Beautiful custom fabric is in your future. It's so fun to be able to say you dyed the fabric for a project. Thanks for watching!

Yes, absolutely! I was thinking the same thing as I was doing this. Or of using a small sieve. Thanks for watching!
I’m definitely going to give this a try, thanks for making it seem less intimidating 😊
Go for it! It's so easy! Thanks for watching!
Informative video- I've always wondered how to do it.
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!

Thanks for all the info. Can you use liquid Rit for this technique ?

Loved seeing Caramel!
Hi Nugget!
Ooh, fun idea! I'll add it to my list. Thanks for watching.
Nugget will be in next week's video, too!
Could you show some projects using dyed fabric? I’m not creative, so I have trouble envisioning it. Thanks!

I just was using tie dye for some dying aida.
I've seen some beautiful results using combinations of the two techniques, too! Thanks for watching!
