I'm watching this after I purchased the digital and physical versions. I absolutely love this. I'm also almost 40. It's surprisingly addicting. And you get hooked on it without even realizing it. I expected to not like it at all because I was calling it buyable demos. But I ended up replaying challenges and instantly being hooked to the "just one more run" concept.
Great overview of what this game is all about! I have gotten way more into it than I ever thought I would to be honest and I tried the NES Remix games before this. For some reason they didn't grab me the same way. I'm not usually one to grind for best times or speedrun but I think the way this game is structured with bite sized levels really helps. Was super proud of my #16 overall finish in Metroid Up & Out and seeing that just makes we want to grind more in future championships.
5:18 2024 and Nintendo still doesn’t get online games. I mean c’mon, being able to see a ranking table should be bread and butter stuff on a game like this
Dude, love this video, im actually thinking about picking it up just to test my skills. Would love to see more videos that show you what games are like!
It's funny, as a kid with 8bit Nintendo and my step-siblings, we would speed run Mario 1-1 and compete. We didn't know anyone else did, it just emerged as a challenge.
We did too. In those days there weren't new games every week. You played the heck out of your Christmas/birthday present and made up your own games and challenges to keep the games fun. Any game was a two player game, you just had to take turns and pass the controller.
Really like the presentation overall and much agree that small improvements would make it great, imagine if they actually had monthly rewards like gold shop points? That would be sick.
The game is really fun. It's very much like NES remix and it feels like you're in the competition. The Famicom version got a 2 controller set. Nintendo should do an SNES edition of this. I wanna see that one
Overall, I am enjoying this and would recommend it for a different challenge. I can see it getting old after awhile, playing the same challenges again and again. Makes me wonder if Nintendo plans to release an update to this game with more challenges and new games. Maybe include third party NES games like Mega Man, Contra, etc.
I thought it was a bit odd that for your profile set up, Nintendo asks you what your favorite NES or Famicom game was, and surprisingly they have EVERY single NES game listed to choose from! Why have everyone choose their favorite NES game (if they want to)? Just for pointless profile flair? I'm guessing it's Nintendo's sneaky way to write up a "poll" to see what NES games to add in future DLC. Totally guessing here, I could be entirely wrong! But I'm really hoping...if any Nintendo game is deserving of DLC, it's NWC NES Edition!
I really wish there were better leaderboards and more challenges like the final SMB1 one. the concept of a game having leaderboards for speedrunning just certain tricks / small sections, then entire splits, and at the end the final one putting it all together (hopefully with 2 modes) is awesome. I say 2 modes because I kind of despise how certain tricks are banned and that dying just rewinds you a few seconds. If there was a mode that timed whole runs that was pretty comparable to running on console it'd be great.
The best way to play, is to find a rival with similar skill. I managed to lower my time below BeardBear, and I'm happy there. I'm also practicing so I can do S rank for the Legendary 30+ min grind. Once I do that, and get all Pins.. I might be done. This game is awesome!
I recommend anyone who can get together with some friends to try the party mode. Even it would benefit from a bit more content, but it’s probably the best way to play if you have the option.
I think with the right updates, some of the issues this game has can be remedied. I think the framework is here, but it's still missing important features to make this game replayable long term. The lack of leaderboards is a big miss and using only ghost data for tournaments is an odd choice. Overall, I really hope they iron this out because an snes world championship would be great and for that to succeed, this version has to be cleaned up a little.
Nobody in my family has any interest in becoming a speedrunner, but with my wife and kids (13 and 11) we sat around trying to improve times for hours. As a family or party game this is great imo.
It's cool how the leaderboards are contained to the weekly challenges - it's like sure you got a good run in your own time but can you PERFORM in the moment?? the WEEK seems too long though i think, and concerns me for people dropping off the game whilst waiting. and i dread some challenges like that long kid icarus one hahaha. the age bracket thingy is a funny one, i can dig they're suggesting like "oh you were a NES kid (ie those tags you choose at the start) here's you amongst your peers" i guess.
I will say that I love speedrunning and my wife does not. We both love this game. In a normal game setting, example DKC, later on the levels get tougher. I welcome the grind and challenge and replay the levels until I get better. She will get frustrated and stop playing. With this game, I still enjoy the grind to perfection, but my wife does also. I think because normally in games, the purpose is to beat the level, but since the goal here is to go fast, it feels more natural and is satisfying, even to those that never thought about speedrunning. I’m enjoying the legendary trial the most (unlocks after completing all speedrun levels) and getting the time lower on that. But that challenge is not appealing to my wife at all. So this game has something for everyone. I’m hoping for DLC with either new challenges or new games, and am excited for SNES, N64, GB, etc.
I see this game as a introduction of speed running which isn't a bad thing. So it doesn't cater to the hardcore speed running community that cares about global leader boards because the chance you actually know someone in your class is rather low for casuals
the age thing is like a "real" sport. You rank total and by age group in every event. Age can be a handicap in a real sport. But here i don't see the need....
After quickly discovering there's only 13 games I felt ripped off. Even some 1st party titles weren't included. no blaster master, punchout, startropics, faxanadu, mega man, contra, rad racer, castlevania, etc. NES Remix 2 on the wii u was better and it's a mediocre offering as well. Unless a major update is released to add a least 50 more games I'd recommend a hard pass on this one folks.
Its very Meh...and the UI is a mess I want the screen to much bigger and playing on joycons is a terrible experince. BUt I do like it to a point...actually made me play NES remix on a 3DS emulator instead. But ive only played for an hour or 2 and may warm to it...plus i dont Sub to NOS so online is not turned on!
I bought the physical and the digital 😅 I originally only intended on getting the digital because I expected to hate it. But I instantly got hooked and decided to get the physical as well, before it gets impossible to find and skyrockets in value. Plus it's nice to have it sealed in box and still able to play the game. But it did sting a little paying $90 for some demos.
sonic 06 dlc worth getting before 360 store closes? i tried asking on twitch. i did get story dlc but not sure if boss dlcs worth getting i guess other is hard mode?
I can’t imagine being such a loser that I spent five hours on some lame Mario stage and 10 hours on a pointless Metroid stage. Human life has no meaning for most anymore. Sad
It boggles my mind that nintendo has not put leaderboards in this. Surely leaderboards are the entire point of the championships?
It has leaderboards, but it’s not handled too well.
Pretty cool concept, but yea not being able to scroll through the leaderboards is a bummer. Not too confident that Nintendo will patch it in
they really should its one of the nice things possible with modern gaming
@@jd-py5nm Yup but Nintendo is Nintendo 🙄
When you S rank every level, a new mode unlocks called Legendary Trials.

that's an awesome snowboard kids display in the back... more of 1080 guy myself but it's so nostalgic

I knew I wasn't interested in this game so this video ASMR me to sleep. Thanks Pete.

The incentive to come back is party mode, competing with friends in the same room is where the Real fun is
Absolute best "review" of this game! Really thorough and honest. You earned a new sub.
How do you check your ranking? I’m so confused

Watching your videos I learn something new all of the time.
Do you need the Nintendo Online Subscription to be eligible for leaderboards?
Perfect video. I haven't been paying attention and had no idea what this game was, but now I know exactly what it is.
Thanks for your thoughts. Reminded me of checking out your playthrough of this game on your Twitch channel.

I was the only gamer in my house growing up, but we had one of those cheapo pacman plug n’ play things and everybody got down on it. Was fun.
Hi! Why not have the Duck hunt game?
Very impressed by your Zelda time. that was slick!!
I started playing this game and im loving it. Needs leaderboards and Punch-Out

This is the type of honest man that makes his girl breakfast every morning
in a few years, Switch online servers will be shut down like 3DS servers and all your records are gone.
I will say that I love speedrunning and my wife does not. We both love this game.

God. Everything about this screams "We're Nintendo. We know best."
Recycled content with one good idea and absolutely NO actual player/fan input.
the age thing is like a "real" sport. You rank total and by age group in every event. Age can be a handicap in a real sport. But here i don't see the need....
I honestly loved the game! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts Pete!
I will say if you're into boxes, the box is hella premium.

No leaderboard = no go for me. No reason for me to grind if i can’t see who I’m grinding against

I keep hearing how this is a downgrade compared to NES Remix but to some it has a stronger appeal despite being a game with less content
Such an interesting idea for a game. Looks fun.
Lol leave it to online safety obsessed Nintendo to make a game I can’t stream without it explicitly revealing my age unless I lie in the game :p
Love ur videos, Pete

MASSIVE L 😂 🤪
nes rEMIX IS SO MUCH BEETTER THAN THIS. tHIS IS COOL TOO THOUGH BUT TH HWOLE NMES RMEIX 1 AND 2 ALOT BETTER AND YET VERY SIMILAR
Have you even tried party mode with friends in the same room, or you a loner? You really are missing out on where the real fun is
I can’t imagine being such a loser that I spent five hours on some lame Mario stage and 10 hours on a pointless Metroid stage.

i love it.
World Championship should be a you get one shot for your score. you know like the REAL World Championships
wow, what a garbage game. glad i didn't buy it. I much prefer the remastered links awakening type games for my kids i guess.
The real question, say you become world #1….
WHO CARES? 😂
