Knowing that mask came from the exact same mould as that of which the hero came from - has got to be the single most amazing thing I’ve ever seen in the Myers community since the release of the actual hero photos in 2018 40 years later.
Space Emo Cosplay Which 75 Kirk are you talking about? The actual Don Post or the 75k from NAG? I own a 75k NAG and it’s amazing. Just amazing to see an actual 1975 Kirk from the exact mould press that the hero was born from. So amazing to see this mask in such detail and so up close knowing that this is the EXACT mask used for the hero
That absolutely looks like nick Castle is under it. Very little work was needed for Tommy Lee Wallace to perfect those eye cuts. You should 100% have that thing 3D scanned. You could make an absolute fortune. No matter how good artists are out their. Their sculpts are a mile off how it originally looks. That is so 78. I've got goosebumps 🖤🖤🖤🖤
That’s just incredible. I cannot believe how amazing it still looks 40 years later. Very very cool. Got chills when it was taken out fo the box. Congrats Sean. Sure nice people that had it. So cool
This whole video is great but the part that gave me chills was the vintage pics & footage of the Magic Shop at Disney World in Florida. My family went to Disney World Florida many times when I was a kid in the late 70’s & I remember it clearly. Being a little kid back then I was just in awe at all the Halloween masks. The (now classic) Don Post Darth Vader mask was brand new at the time and I was amazed just to see it. I also remember begging to try on a Fly Head mask and they let me. It was an ingenious design, instead of 2 big eyeholes like a typical mask it had many several tiny round eyeholes in every little facet of its compound eyes. So from the outside nobody could look in, but from inside the mask you could see out very well, like looking through a screen. I wanted that Fly Mask so bad but it was too expensive. Seeing the footage in this video brought back all those crazy memories!
That is a holy grail for sure. Doesn't get a whole lot cooler then that. Amazing how well it's held up over years. No doubt you'll be taking good care of it and doing everything you can to make sure it lasts another 40 years.
I laughed, "this is almost a holy grail item". Um, hell yeah! It is THE holy grail item for Myers mask collectors - scarce as hen's teeth, insanely valuable and desired by Myers mask fans worldwide. If I had a lazy $15-20k, and could even find one, I'd buy one. You are a lucky man Sean! They really stored it well. Most of us have to make do with replicas and even those can be expensive (think NAG) but nothing compared to this - this in a different league altogether. How do you plan to store/display it?
With technology now you could have it scanned with 3D imagery so collectors could have replicas without having to salvage your original mask. Would be pretty cool to have because even with the awesomeness of Nikos N.A.G masks sculpting and the hand full of masks that have lineage to a 75 kirk this would be the perfect representation of the shape! The End All Be All myers mask! Congratulations on your score.
Awesome piece of history you have there! The detail is the best I have ever seen. It will be great to see that mask years down the road for many horror enthusiasts to look at. The jem in your collection now!
Hey man greetings from Belfast, Ireland. This episode is fucking amazing. I've been watching your stuff for years. This and the Tommy Lee Wallace rebuilding the mask episodes were incredible. I could go on and on about some of my other favourites.. Thanks for bringing this stuff to us all. Stay safe over there bro! 🔥 🎃 🔥
This was one heck of a cool video. I was not expecting that mask to be 40 dollars back in the 70s. For some reason even before he said the price, I was thinking the mask would have cost 10-15 dollars back in the 70s. 40 dollars back then was a bit of money. Happy the guy kept it around all of these decades.. And as for YOUR amazing collection, I now call you, THE "HORRORder". Try saying that really fast 3 times. I can barely say it once, slowly. Great video. Great channel.
OMG!!!!😳😢😭😍 TEARS OF JOY!!!, This Is The Holy Grail of them All, I've Always said it would have Been Awesome if Debra & or Mr. Warlock would have took One for the Team so to speak, & sacrificed ,one of The 3 hero Masks & placed IT in the Smithsonian, we're Dorothy's Red slippers are From W.O.Z , Because just like That Film Carpenter's HALL🎃WEEN Is DEFINITELY a Cultural Phenomenon!!, & TO BE Shared With Fans World Wide!, Thank You So Much Sean, for Taking time out of your Busy day To Share with Us Fellow Fans!, love & Blessings to you Brother, The 1 who started it All. KEEP ON ROCKING!!!🤘 I hope to meet you 1 day, & GET Your Autograph!! 😊👍💯
What a find! Thanks for sharing the video. Of course, I have to ask the question - Do you already have a bid on Shatner’s actual head?!😂. Just imagine the value of having the head that inspired the mold!
Holy shit this was awesome! Never seen an original... I just remember Tommy Lee Wallace talking about how there were no Halloween masks when they were shooting the classic so he picked up a clown mask and one from William Shattner which they made some modifications and the rest is freaking history! Blows my mind to see this! Sean what's up man, you always seem to bring it! 🙏
You probably already know this being a mask collector, but I would seriously recommend getting that foam head (if it is foam) out of it as soon as you possibly can because it will slowly but surely destroy the mask.
Need to get a 3D printer and have that mask scanned to make a solid mold and start selling some spot-on versions of the original Halloween mask. That would be absolutely amazing
This is so cool! By the way, dig the 'Fragile' Marx Bros reference. But really Tommy Lee Wallace is severely underappreciated for how much he's responsible for the success of Halloween. Without his modifications to that mask I doubt the film would work as well. He made a pretty funky looking mask into something nightmare-ish.
Another Great look into the "Collection." An Original Shatner mask, all the way from WDW 40+ years ago! It looks like @malfuncsean has some neat looking "Disneyana" around the House. Hope that aspect of the collection gets highlighted someday.
@@malfuncsean Fair enough, I guess I'm just too giving haha! Thank you for your reply Sean, you are a true horror fan and I love everything that you have done to bring all that you have to all of us fans. I do have one question though, I have 6 of the same style poulan chainsaws that where used in TCM2. I know you own the original and I was just hoping you could end a decades long yearning for me to know exactly what model it actually is. The model # is just under ther bar cover. It has to be a 4900, 5400 or 8500 poulan. They all looked the same but different sized engines.
Actually Star Trek Fans DO know that it's a very high priced collectible, not just because it's a Captain Kirk mask, but that it was used for Halloween. William Shatner has stated that he knows that the mask was used for Halloween, he's even worn the mask himself on Halloween one year
Someone had one of these on ebay around 4 or 5 years ago for a million dollars. I remember that being the talk of Michael-Myers.net for a good while lol. Needless to say it did not sell for that.
ThatHorror Critic Ha. I remember this. I was a kid at the time cruising through eBay searching for shatner masks and came across the ‘million dollar Kirk’. Remember begging my mum to buy it for me. Needless to say, and very well understood now, she didn’t get it for me haha.
You need to encase that in an ARGON filled display. Keep the atmosphere from ruining it any further. Should also encase any other valuable latex or degradable items in argon. It's cheap and simple.
Wow the condition of that mask is beyond words. I won't even ask how much you paid but fuck it if I had the spare cash I'd do the same it's totally worth it. By the way, my stomach turned when you talked about what happened to your original. I will go ahead and say on behalf of rabid horror fans such as myself, in regards to your sacrifice I will quote Han from Enter The Dragon: you have our gratitude.
I loved this video, and I thank you. I share you love of masks. I collect Don Post Universal Monster pre and post reissues. I wanted to make a quick comment about the foam filling problem with the face looking too rounded. You may want to contact Dante Renta. He does foam filling, and his work is first rate!!! He works with the Tharp's in Los Angeles area. His cost is very reasonable, and it will also come with a stand for the mask made out of what appears to be sonotube. Anyway, thanks again.
I just don't have any reason to foam fill them. I'd rather have them professional stuffed. Once something is foam filled that's pretty much that and it becomes a prop and no longer a real mask. I like the idea that being stuffed if I ever wanted to that stuffing could easily be removed and it is always just a mask.
@@malfuncsean Thank you for responding! That is an interesting thought on mask preservation. In your opinion, does it preserve the mask rubber as well as foam filling? I do see your point in being able to wear the mask. A lot of my stuff is frankly too small to wear. They made them small for some reason back in the day.
Pandemonium There are treatments that can be done to the mask to help preserve the latex. I will likely never attempt to put the mask on but I want it to remain a mask and not just a stationary prop.
Bought my Kirk mask back in 79. Turned it into a Michael Myers and did Haunted Houses until the late 80's. Sad to say he disintegrated by the mid 90's.
“Best investment I ever made” yeah dude, I’d say so. $40 back in the 70’s and probably went for at least 20x that now. It’s in pretty pristine shape too, maybe send it in to a place for conservation? Not restoration but conservation.
I literally live 5 miles from the town this mask lived in. I’m in Johnson City TN. I would have legitimately wrote a check for 10k for this and saved this fellow the hassle of traveling. Dam the luck.

Darren Hughes 75 Kirk is from the same mold the stunt mask, used in the unmasking scene, came from as well, which was rather interesting to find out
Space Emo Cosplay Which 75 Kirk are you talking about? The actual Don Post or the 75k from NAG? I own a 75k NAG and it’s amazing. Dude, that thing looks so much like the one in the movie even without the conversion
@SeedlessJellyBeans and it shows!
makes sense because I think all the best horror movie masks are kind of "normal" masks with just a little bit of tweaking
Absolutely insane piece sean, that’s probably as close to the hero mask as you can get without it actually being a hero mask. Congrats on the score!
