Took the wife to see this in the theater way back when. She never remembers when we rewatch it. It was fun if you didn’t expect much from it.
Edit: oh you guys got a shout out on 13o’clock podcast. Apparently they’re fans.
Donald Sutherlands accent couldn't decide which nationality it was in this film lol.
That actually works though. How do ya know he wasnt an irish immigrant whos slowly lost his accent over the years? Happens.
So Sean Connery in any film then 🤣
Virus, Leviathan, Deep Rising are all classic enjoyable cheese.
Don't forget Lake Placid & The Relic
Facts.
Deep rising best of the bunch love that film
@Mark Christian never seen that one, might check it out tomorrow. That’s a Sean S Cunningham one ain’t it?
@@BirdsElopeWithTheSun09 Both were fun trash.
This movie have a cool concept and visuals, it have a lot of potential, but it show how important for a film is writing and direction, you can have great cast, great effects, budget production, but if the movie dont work with actors and dialogues you end in bad performances that diminish the rest of the movie
Great Review as always, chaps. I used to work at a very famous department store in London - we had about two dozen deluxe, boxed action figures of the 'Goliath' creature that NOBODY bought! They just collected dust and were ultimately written off as shrinkage. I wish I had snared one now!
Remember watching this in the theater. This and Ghost Ship are two of my many guilty pleasure movies.
You are not alone. And anything with 13 in the title lol (The 13 th Warrior, Thirteen Ghosts, ...).
Switch ghost ship with supernova and I’m with you
@@neonsmoviereviews7969 now I must check out Supernova
@@eightykakes15 I'm among my people
@@literaltiffy1699 make sure to watch the R rated cut
Yes! TGIT! OTSR THURSDAY! 🙌 Thanks Gary & Jess! Have a good one shelfers! 👊
Thanks OTSR 👊 your channel is much loved ❤
this channel is a jem, ive been watching for years and hope to be able to support you and ian monthly soon. really good chem between you guys
HECK YES! I just re-watched this not long ago! You guys are awesome!!!
Looks like this is where Dead Space got its designs for necromorphs
I'd say Dead Space is more inspired from Hellraiser combined with HR Giger creature designs (though, less genital-y. LOL)
I just discovered your channel yesterday, subscribed and now I'm binging the shit out of your videos.
Sadly if you watch some of the cut scenes, they did set up some of the important character traits and backstories... but once again the editor said, "Nah... cut that out." So the reason Curtis is disliked (washed out Navy brat), Richie's going rogue (PTSD), why Hiko brings a knife to a cyborg fight (he believes it to make him invincible due to his heritage), and everyone's beef with Everton falls flat. Not saying those scenes would have made it a blockbuster, but cutting them definitely hurt the film. They also explain the bruises you mentioned.
I've never understood the hate for this film. It's got memorable characters, great practical effects and is a fun romp. It's a really good creature feature.
This is one of my top 3 faves of "didn't do great but I like them" films. Along with Deep Rising and Event Horizon.
One of my favorite channels! Great review as always you guys!
They release films in late Dec, Jan and Feb to say "Well, it was the holidays and the weather, thats why no one came out to see Placeholder Title: Retribution"
Yet another fantastic review guys! Have an enjoyable Easter.
Great review guys 👍 Always had a soft spot for this movie as well as Deep Rising.
Hehehe it's great to see you get to this film. It's a badly acted film in most parts, but it's actually pretty good with the effects and visuals and the story is kinda interesting! I've read the whole graphic novel so I wonder which would be a better story, the film or the novel.
I saw that in cinema back in the day... never really got the hate it garnered. Sure, it's not mind blowing or anything, but I always liked it. Definitely up there with movies like Deep Star Six, Deep Rising and other mid tier marine horror flics.
This takes me back to my childhood.
"Helllooooooooo, welcome to off the shelf reviews" "my names phil, the ladies call me philly bigwilly"... great video lads
Deja Vu. I could've sworn you guys did this one already.
"when short circuit goes bad" - wow sirs! another great review of a movie I had no idea existed! OffTheShelf is awesome!
Looks like a proper fun movie!
This is my movie so damn creepy and thrilling great review you guys.
I watched this movie as a kid and it scared the living crap out of me 🤣🤣
Love your reviews!!!
The cyborgs in this seem like discount Borg, which are discount Cybermen, so you're left with a very flimsy product. haha
I LOVED this movie! It's one of my fave go-to comfort movies. ❤
Ahh brilliant! I've waited years for you guy to do this severley underrated flick! It's awful but man what a cool concept. Thanks! :D
As bad as it can be, this movie did inspire me in my own sci Fi horror that I'm writing! I love the idea of a bio mechanical type of monster, something that uses other people and creatures as parts or mesh with them using the strengths of machine and flesh, that concept alone has so much potential for a unique creature and in a better film it'd be fantastic! So it does have a nice amount of respect from me for the concept of the monster but otherwise? Yeah not the best but also not the worst 😅 still one I can enjoy from time to time!
I remember my parents renting this around october. I was 9, and I freaked out. As an adult I really like it, I'd have a double feature of this along with Deep Rising.
Before I watched this movie, I didn't even know there was a William Baldwin.
Love from California, 4 am and i just got the alert. Gonna load a bong and enjoy
Loved this movie and didn’t know it was based on a comic book and they sorta released toys for this
Great review of a movie I had forgotten about but will now rewatch- thanks guys and also.....where’s Iain 😂
Loved this as a kid. Just simple easy watching
This isn’t too bad a movie.
I actually enjoyed this movie. I guess it’s one of those guilty pleasures of mine, lol.
very very under rated sci fi horror movie
Sounds like the game cold fear
Virus. The movie that Jamie Lee Curtis infamously called "a piece of shit."
Much better than most of the Halloween films she's featured in tbh
@@Grandmastergav86 she's terrible I never got the love for her
I saw it in theater when it came out. She was right.
Where did Aaron go? I don’t mind the rotation it’s just that I always thought of the channel as you two
Hello I am russian. No that wasnt redubbed (in version what did i saw when was a kid) because some lines was without actent and usally our dubbed team stayed untouched how sound voice of american actors who try speack russian) it is sound funny and wierd but at least you trying)
Beyond good!!!
Be always aware when it's a Baldwin movie
the film is a guilty pleasure
I don't think it's an uzi I believe that's a Skorpion which is a Czechoslovak machine pistol developed in 1959 by Miroslav Rybář.
I feel so old. I saw this on opening night. I’ve always enjoyed it, don’t get the hate. Excellent visual effects, gore and Jamie Lee Curtis.
I saw this movie in the theater my senior year of high school.
Virus is one my.90s guilty pleasures!. It's a bad version of ocean Event Horizon.
That was the politest tear apart of a film :p glad ya guys covered this 1! Tis an interesting failure. Ive got it on a VCD somewhere :/
I'm a bit out of the loop. Where's scotish Silent Bob?
First here again. I was wondering when you were going to get to this one. Not a good performance for Donald Sutherland in particular. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Come on Jess next week you do the synopsis take it in turns cheers.
I mean, James Cameron got his start in special effects, but I guess he is an exception (that said, he may have lost it judging by AVATAR. haha)
Hey, Great Review! I don’t hate on Jess, but what happened to Ian?
Where the HELL is Ian!.!.!???????!?!?
If the ship was a Chinese one instead of a Russian one, we could have called the movie "Chyna Virus". Sadly they didn't have the foresight to know about the situation that we're in now.
Very funny. Ahaha.
Come on Gary. Where is angry Ian. I can't believe it. Ian is not a mouse.
I agree, I always felt that this was a great looking film that had the worst cast of characters, not to say that there are not good actors in this movie but the cast doesn’t have chemistry together, their just doing their own thing in this movie and Baldwin was just terrible, I don’t think I seen him in any other movie after this lol and I don’t know why Sutherland was written as an old pirate type dude, he seemed so out of place for a film about advanced technology. I definitely understand why Jamie Lee Curtis trash’s this movie, it had the potential to be really awesome but definitely needed a much more prestigious director at the helm to make it work.
Another “classic” guys. Forgot about this one.
Oh wow it's been a while I don't watch an off the shelf review! Let's see how the guys are doin... oh my god Ian what happened?!
No puns about dead seamen?
I believe they lost forty-four million three hundred thousand I believe
Never liked soooo fast before..
Keep up the good serie👍
I’ve only one thing to say about this film . . .
Steeeeve
Great film.
This is a bad film but I like it. A real guilty pleasure.
Have you ever heard of Jack-O? I remember the movie exists but I only know next to anything about it since I haven't seen it in about 18 years on vhs
Ahh Jamie Lee Curtis my eyes are happy
Where is Ian??
Iain who?
Bump 👍
Ended up watching this last year after a mate was selling a copy of the Japanese laserdisc edition and I picked it up. Good fun film if you don't take it too seriously. To be fair I'd watch anything with Jamie-Lee Curtis in it!
👍🎬🎥👊
Where the fuck is Iain? There’s no way he’s sitting there waiting on boris Johnson to tell him it’s safe to go outside. Ffs
If yall want to review some really bad movies look at the Sharknado Series. Those are some really bad movies and they made it that way on purpose.
Guys, honestly, you still havent reviewed BLACK RAIN, your committing a crime against pop culture. BLACK RAIN is possibly the most underrated gem of a movie ever, Ridley scott at his fucking best. DO IT NOWWWW
You watch your tail cowboy.
@@Velo.Gaming EPIC JUST EPIC MOVIE
@@Bro-tr2xq Amazing movie, another one to check is "The Hunted" with Christopher Lambert.
@@Velo.Gaming agree 100%
Why has Ian not been in the reviews 🤔lately its just not the same without him. 😕
WHERE'S IANNNN???????!!
Did Jess kill him?
Jess is cool but I love Ian's energy
Lockdown rules, Iain can't film with Gary at the moment, he'll be back soon.
He's at home, washin' his tights!
Did Iian leave?
No, lockdown in the UK preventing them from filming together.
The first half of this movie is phenomenal...and the second half is awful.
Bring back Iain. Now!
😕
GARY
I wish you would've waited
to review this movie after
IAIN came back
